Just that really
It's interesting to know others people opinions, As the virus gets worse in uk although we had no new cases or new deaths Since yesterday so far 🤞🏻

OP posts:

The lockdown will be extended because 3 weeks isn't long enough. People walking their dogs more than once a day is neither here nor there. Hopefully there won't be further lockdown of business or we really will be f**d

MarginalGain · 29/03/2020 09:42

I don't think Boris will tighten restrictions. His current vagueness serves his purpose very well. If people are angry because they are being stopped by officers then it is police overreach. If the spread of the virus doesn't slow it it the fault of the people not following the rules.

I detected an interesting piece of future-proofing in last night's press conference.

Some guy, sorry no idea who, said 'if we get through this and it's better than Italy it's not because we're lucky, it's because of the good behaviour of the UK public adhering to the lockdown' and so on.

I think this is a direct reaction to reports yesterday questioning the credibility of Nial Ferguson, and that they're a teensy bit worried there's a possibility that they're going to exit from this debacle with an oversupply of new/unused hospital beds and a lockdown.

twinnywinny14 · 29/03/2020 09:47

3 weeks is long enough to see if there is any impact from the measures put in place, because of the incubation period. I suspect it won’t have the desired effect so will be stepped up

FabulouslyFab · 29/03/2020 09:52

When you consider the Nightingale hospitals being prepared I don’t think this will be over any time soon.

eaglejulesk · 29/03/2020 09:56

@ShanghaiDiva - It is reassuring to see someone with common sense! Resilience is what is needed right now, but it is sadly lacking in many people on MH.

eaglejulesk · 29/03/2020 09:57

"MN" not MH

Parker231 · 29/03/2020 10:06

I think the lockdown period will be extended for another couple of months. The UK is two to three weeks behind Italy and we’ve not hit the peak of the virus yet. Boris is sending a letter to all households and it threatens tighter controls if things don’t improve.

Bluntness100 · 29/03/2020 10:13

I think much of the issue is because no one knows. The not knowing is difficult for all of us. We want to know and we need to know. Not knowing brings out two main types of people.

Those who try to be optimistic and look for reasonable best case, and those who are deeply pessimistic and look for absolute worst case. There is little in the middle.

But we don’t know, it’s that simple. We don’t know. We need to wait and see. So everyone is trying to guess, to predict the unknown, and depending on what type of person you are, you’re either going to go for reasonable best case, or absolute worst case.

Hence why you’ll get such disparity in the answers, and depending on your own personality type you’ll tend to side with one rather than the other.

But the bottom line is we don’t know. No one does. Not even the scientists. Not even the government. They will be preparing for worst, hoping for best, and will decide based on the facts at the time on how this is playing out.

teta · 29/03/2020 10:21

I believe we will all be in a stricter lockdown.
There is no reason why being British confers some special sort of virus resistance, other than the geographical advantage of being an island. Above all else this virus trumps civil liberties.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2020 10:24

Impossible to know but if people can do things again the spread will just accelerate again to hit in three or so weeks.

Depends on numbers at the end of this one.

SubordinateThatClause · 29/03/2020 10:30

It will be extended. Everywhere else is saying isolate for 14 days from start of symptoms. Why only 7 here? Looking at how the illness progresses it is perfectly possible to feel fine again after a week then drop like a stone. People feeling better will go out, spread it, then go home and feel worse.

I reckon we'll bee in lockdown till June,".

cushioncovers · 29/03/2020 11:17

This.

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 11:29

Until June, according to Niall Henderson in the Times today. Then social distancing for months. Deffo no school until Sept.

Perihelion · 29/03/2020 11:38

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer has said lockdown for 13 weeks. Which I suspected, seeing as the school exams were cancelled and fourlough pay is for 3 months.

Bluntness100 · 29/03/2020 12:02

The nightingale hospitals are to prepare for worst case. It has to be done. No way round it. They need to prepare for the worst, and work towards the best, preparing for the worst, doesn’t mean the worst is a given.

It’s concerning me slightly that Ferguson is being misquoted in the press. He’s said that lockdown will have to last three months, but it depends on behaviour, that we may be able to get out of it quicker, and if we do, then social distancing remains, which was always a given. But some shit rags are twisting it as a scare mongering headline.

I honestly think some of the media needs to be taken to task after this is done, by the government for their irresponsible headline grabbing click bait. Feeding on people’s insecurities to get clicks.

Sostenueto · 29/03/2020 12:25

have it from a source that has leaked an email from NHS to hospitals ( but I cannot guarantee if genuine) that London will be on full lockdown by end of week with roadblocks and only keyworkers allowed to work and rest of country will follow week after. They are advised that people over 70 not to be ventilated nor people over 65 with serious conditions such as COPD diabetes etc. One hospital already diverting patients to other hospitals ( London) and 2 more already refusing certain patients ICU and administering palliative care. One hospital in London only had 4 ventilators left and two more heading same way. Also reported taking 70 yr old off ventilator to give to 30 yr old.( Lewisham and QEH) expected deaths absolutely catastrophic. As I said I cannot confirm whether this is true or false buy i do know the person works at a Berkshire hospital. I am in no doubt that decisions are being made that are just so awful for these people making them and for the people that die families. God bless them all💐☹️

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:27

I don't believe that for a minute. At the moment everyone who needs an ICU bed has one.

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:32

Also reported taking 70 yr old off ventilator to give to 30 yr old.( Lewisham and QEH) rubbish

MarginalGain · 29/03/2020 12:32

Don't spread such nonsense.

I just saw a London-based nurse speaking about the status of London hospitals and she said everything was fine.

I think the more likely possibility is that Johnson is going to have egg on his face because we have underutilisation of the make-shift ICUs AND a lockdown.

Parker231 · 29/03/2020 12:33

Healthcare doesn’t work like that. All patients are being treated and the extra beds in places like the Excel come on line next week. Sounds like someone making up a rumor. The UK doesn’t have police or army resources to enforce a full lockdown.

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:33

I think the more likely possibility is that Johnson is going to have egg on his face because we have underutilisation of the make-shift ICUs AND a lockdown yes and loads of new ventilators that we won't need.

beautifulteeth · 29/03/2020 12:40

How unbelievable to say that Boris " will have egg on his face"

Fuck me. The man can't win with you lot- he's either under prepared according to you with lack of testing/ PPE kits etc OR everything he has in place for the future is possibly going to be under-utilised.

Give him a fucking break.

Nobody knows how this shit is going to pan out. Nobody.

He has the best medical and scientific advisers around him and I am more inclined to believe their judgement than what I am to many of the vipers on here.

teta · 29/03/2020 12:40

Can the posters who are refusing to accept the new reality fly away to another thread please?
London is very close to breaking point - that is the truth. Ventilators will have to be rationed if numbers rise rapidly.
You can carry in believing in an alternative reality but do it on your own thread

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2020 12:41

If lockdown works and we have extra capacity. Good.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2020 12:41

Agree some posts are a bit silly re egg on face.
