Just that really
It's interesting to know others people opinions, As the virus gets worse in uk although we had no new cases or new deaths Since yesterday so far 🤞🏻

slippery - if self-isolating due to symptoms, you are allowed out once for exercise. The guidance is very clear. I realise some people (including police forces!) are choosing not to do this but those that chose to are following guidance

awkwardbuttons · 28/03/2020 16:12

@slipperywhensparticus as the PP has pointed out, the NHS and government webpages both say the exact opposite. You can exercise once a day if you maintain a distance from others even with symptoms. The difficulty of course is ensuring you stay more than 2m away when some people aren't adhering to that.

Rosebel · 28/03/2020 16:33

At least 1 new death in 24 hours because my SILs dad died early hours of today and I doubt he's the only one. It will be extended again and again after that I think. I hope it'll be over by early July although I don't think the schools will go back until September at the earliest.
It depends what happens in the next 2 weeks

Salene · 28/03/2020 16:39

Extended plus a tighter rule of not allowed more than 2km from house like Ireland.

Hercwasonaroll · 28/03/2020 16:39

I think people will get fed up and just start breaking the rules anyway. It's already been too long.

If we do end up with "only" 7000 corona deaths, we will end up with far more deaths indirectly linked due to mental health issues and economic problems.

I predict more women will be murdered, more children abused and a lot more domestic violence.

This doesn't mean I disagree with the government policies. There are consequences to lockdown and they aren't all positive.

Tonyaster · 28/03/2020 16:40

I think lockdown as it is now will be enforced for another 2 weeks. Perhaps stricter lockdown in cities.

cantkeepawayforever · 28/03/2020 17:04

This article is interesting on comparisons between different countries.

The type of more extreme lockdown I was envisaging coming in in a couple of weeks is more like Spain, where going out for exercise is only allowed for walking the dog, and then only around the block, or Italy, where all non-essential businesses are shut down.

dollface19 · 28/03/2020 17:12

I checked hours ago early this morning and forgot the WHO don't update til 2pm so my bad! But the news today is devastating and such a massive jump and I really hope that people listen finally instead of going out unnecessarily!! I think it will defo b longer than 3 weeks now who knows x stay safe x

The schools will HAVE to go back in September, somehow even if they are on reduced timetables/ fewer children at a time in for a term. You cannot keep children out of a school for nearly a year it just isn't even remotely fair on them

A month ago there was a lot of talk that they couldn’t shut the schools and yet here we are, a week in to the school closures. If the government wants the schools closed, then the schools will close! Never mind if it’s fair for them or not. It’s not fair that my mil cant step foot out of her house for 12 weeks, but she is still complying. We have to do all we can, to protect ourselves and if that means no school, then they will have to stay at home. (And I say that as someone who stands to loose about £6k if the schools don’t open again until September-I’m a childminder, even with the government scheme, I am Financially loosing).

twinnywinny14 · 28/03/2020 17:33

@KeepLosingThings the advice is stay in for 7 days if you have had symptoms, longer if you still have a fever. Everyone else, who is well can go out for exercise once a day.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/03/2020 17:33

This is a worldwide crisis, children staying off school for 6+ months is not the worst thing that could happen.

Rosebel · 28/03/2020 17:42

Not the worst thing but pretty bad especially if you're in GCSE or A level years.

twinnywinny14 · 28/03/2020 17:46

@Rosebel yes but they will recover and get over it unlike those who die or are left with life changing illnesses and ailments from this virus. Yes it’s shit but it could be worse

ChilliMayo · 28/03/2020 17:53

Lockdown-release-lockdown-release is the best/only strategy now. The first one will be the worst, and I reckon we have at least 4-5 weeks to go. Then as NHS capacity begins to free up we release (and get more cases) then we lockdown till those are dealt with, and so on.
As more have had the virus and (please whatever God or none you pray to) are shown to be immune the lockdowns will get smaller each time.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:10

It isn't fair on anyone. But presumably your mil is in a high risk group, children aren't.

Are you advocating they should reopen pubs but keep schools shut?

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:13

Extended lockdown and tighter restrictions if numbers aren't drastically down

Don't you understand that isn't going to happen. The peak will be about then. Are you listening to the daily briefings or just posting on mumsnet and listening to people here?

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:14

It is horrendous for those millions of children.

SwimForBrighterDays · 28/03/2020 19:19

Most of the kids couldn't care less

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:21

Most of the kids couldn't care less

What utter nonsense

SingforAbsolution · 28/03/2020 19:22

Extended and then extended again. Don't expect it to be lifted before the end of May tbh.

Derbygerbil · 28/03/2020 19:24

You’re an adult (presumably) and should know that life’s not fair! Nothing about this is fair!

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:25

Odfod. Children are least affected by this. We all had our full education, they have that right too.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/03/2020 19:26

In what way is it horrendous?
Dd has had three weeks of actual school since 13th December (we live in China) still waiting for her find the situation horrendous.
Fortunately many children seem considerably more resilient than people who post on here...

Derbygerbil · 28/03/2020 19:26

I’d be astonished if we’re out of lockdown in 3 weeks. We may have some things relaxed by mid-May, but there’ll be restrictions to a greater or less extent until 2021 I think.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:27

You clearly lack empathy and imagination.
