Just that really
It's interesting to know others people opinions, As the virus gets worse in uk although we had no new cases or new deaths Since yesterday so far 🤞🏻

OP posts:

We all had our full education, they have that right too

Yes, and they’ll go back if it’s safe, not because “it’s fair”... I expect it will be safe enough by September btw

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:30

And no one has answered this question:

Are you advocating they should reopen pubs but keep schools shut?

Education is something that people have fought for, it is vital and must be prioritised.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:31

@derbygerbil September has to be the absolute latest for me. I accept that until then it is probably just about justifiable.

Derbygerbil · 28/03/2020 19:32

You clearly lack empathy and imagination.

The irony of writing this to some in China who’s been on lockdown since January, when you’ve had less than a week is astonishing!

ShanghaiDiva · 28/03/2020 19:33

No, I don’t.
This is the reality of my situation and that of my dd. She has not seen her dad in 6 weeks. She has not seen her friends in two months.
This is our reality.
I get on with it and support my dd rather than whinging that the situation is horrendous for her. Life is horrendous form those that have loved ones. Missing GCSEs, a levels, six months of school...not so much.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:35

No it isn't ironic at all, we face the same.

hazeyjane · 28/03/2020 19:35

Tea - you say you don't understand why people are needing to go to the supermarkets so much. What do you do if you can't get a delivery slot, have to shop for family of 5 plus self isolating elderly relative, but have to adhere to the blanket limits on what you can buy ( eg 2 packs of butter whether you are a single person of family of 6) - your only choice is to shop more frequently.

Derbygerbil · 28/03/2020 19:37

@Teateaandmoretea

The difference is that you’re whinging after less than a week! I’m sure @ShanghaiDiva must think we’re a nation of spoilt snowflakes based on this!

Duchessofblandings · 28/03/2020 19:38

Extended and probably tightened if so many people continue to flout guidelines.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:39

@derby I'd rather be two months in. I'm not 'whinging' as you do pleasantly put it. I am saying that education is actually really really important and is a RIGHT for our children and society.

Where am I whinging? It's a shit situation whether you are in the UK or China.

Pootle40 · 28/03/2020 19:39

It won't be anything like 12/18 months - there would be nothing to return to. It will have to ultimately balance safety and the economy. I think 12 weeks max at this point with perhaps longer for those most vulnerable.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:40

@hazeyjane that is exactly why I think supermarkets should be shut to the public.

Peppafrig · 28/03/2020 19:44

I think the schools will go back around the 15th August after the 6 week summer holiday I can’t see it being before then.

Namelesswonder · 28/03/2020 19:47

Scottish schools go back mid August so restrictions in Scotland should be easing around then

ARoseInHarlem · 28/03/2020 19:53

@Teateaandmoretea

You must have some sort of agenda. Education isn’t a life or death entitlement. It’s only recently an entitlement at all in this country.

I think you need to get a grip, and educate your children on how fortunate they are to live in a society that can handle a global pandemic with a relatively low mortality rate.

ARoseInHarlem · 28/03/2020 19:55

@Teateaandmoretea

Also, have you spent more than 2 minutes thinking about the consequences of “closing the supermarkets” for all of the tens of millions of people in this country?

There’s been a lot of shite spewed on MN about lockdown, but your posts are plain mad.

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 19:57

Yes I have, the consequences are less than closing the schools until January like some mumsnetters are suggesting is reasonable. Plus it would slow the spread of this virus. You need to think about the long term consequences of what we are doing very carefully.

cantkeepawayforever · 28/03/2020 20:01

I am not suggesting that closing schools until January is REASONABLE (by any usual definition of the word).

I do, however, think that partial / rotated closure until then may be NECESSARY for public health and to avoid preventable deaths.

ARoseInHarlem · 28/03/2020 20:03

There are people in this country who would die if starvation, die from a lack of medication which they can only get at their supermarket in house pharmacy, become severely malnourished over time.

But that’s better than your children bring off school until January?

Are you mad?!

Is there something going on that you’re not disclosing?

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 20:04

Have you actually read my posts? They would be closed to the public who would use click and collect. Jeez Hmm

Teateaandmoretea · 28/03/2020 20:06

There are lots of people on here who think that closing schools is a convenient way of stemming the virus fairly long term. Presumably while the pubs reopen and adults get on with their lives. Closing schools is an extremely serious measure and every day they are shut cannot be taken lightly. Even if right now it is proportionate.

Myfriendanxiety · 28/03/2020 20:06

@Peanut55

Secondly, why on earth have you been out walking your dog if you have had a cough for 9 days? Do the rules not apply to you?

The rules state self isolate for 7 days if you have symptoms and then as long as you feel well you can return to work etc but the cough may linger for 2-3 weeks. I am assuming this poster was feeling fine as so assumed after her 7 days she was fine to go out but now has had a sudden and unexpected relapse.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/03/2020 20:11

I am not denying that education is important, but education is not limited to school. Our children are learning to adapt in a world where rules are changing daily. They see the importance of flexibility, of resilience of putting the needs of the whole before those of the individual. This is all education.

Isitmyimagination · 28/03/2020 20:19

Maybe prepare for a series of lockdown periods interspersed with relaxing of the rules (guidelines). This will allow the vast majority of people to contract the virus but not all at the same time. This is what we are being led into. Like it or not I can’t see any other way at the moment. Hope I’m wrong though, please take care and follow the advice.
