If we go into full lockdown how much notice would we get?

If we go into full lockdown will we be able to receive deliveries of non essential items? I'm due a baby in June and need to order baby equipment.

Blizy. You'd be surprised how little a new born baby needs. And whilst there's fun to be had shopping for all those enchanting little items, there's a perverse pleasure to be had from managing on the minimum and saving the money for later. Your baby won't remember its first crib. In times past a drawer (removed from the chest and emptied of contents obviously) was a popular choice.

In Finland most babies sleep in a box.
See how little you need.

I would hope there would be no notice. Otherwise it would be like Italy when they were told Lombary would be locked down the next day and lots of people fled the area spreading the virus. I'd like it to be like on budget day and they say at 8:59 "tax is going up by X on beer at 9pm" and so there's nothing you can do about it.

SociallyDistanced · 22/03/2020 22:13

Im collecting my son from uni 3 1/2 hours away on Wednesday.
He's been in 14 day quarantine.
He has really well to cope so far. He is a completely empty halls and he has depression any way. I just want him home. He can't stay there on his own for weeks on end.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/03/2020 22:14

Nobody on here can answer that

PenelopePeachStone · 22/03/2020 22:16

Greece announced in the last couple of hours that lockdown would start at 6am tomorrow

maddy68 · 22/03/2020 22:18

In Spain they were given about 8 hours

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 22/03/2020 22:19

Pretty sure he’s just given us all notice, no? Anyone who’s not expecting in the next couple of days is being a bit naive imo.

HowIrresponsible · 22/03/2020 22:19

My solicitor doesn’t seem to know much 😂

@Itsjustmee glad you find that funny because solicitors sure as hell don't like being unaware of what is going to happen for their clients et al.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 22/03/2020 22:19

...not expecting it in the next few days...

🤦🏻

SuperlativeScrubs · 22/03/2020 22:20

@Itsjustmee in the states the courts are closed and hearings/ trials are via video link. I am unsure if that helps you in any way but I assume that's what will happen here.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 22/03/2020 22:20

It will happen this week. Probably Wednesday. People always spoil it for others, like that twat kid who make the whole class stay behind because he's so unique and won't be told

flowery · 22/03/2020 22:21

In France the announcement was at 7pm for a lockdown commencing at noon the following day. My parents are there.

YoursTunbridgeWells · 22/03/2020 22:21

I'd hope it would be effective immediately. Allowing people to return home from work or assisting relatives etc.

middleager · 22/03/2020 22:23

Hmm
PM gave enough notice for carnage in pubs. He knew that would happen (a few more young sacrificial lambs for the herd).

He also knows the same will happen in shops. So I bet he gives enough time for the masses to buy more loo roll and decimate shelves while infecting more - I mean, what's an extra few thousand infected here and there?

NormaLouiseBates · 22/03/2020 22:23

Please be kind... I have a question and didn't want to start a brand new thread about it.

If/when we do go into lockdown, would you be allowed to go to a bank? Would they even still be open? H got paid for a job yesterday in cash and we really need it in the bank for bills but the soonest he can get to the branch is Tuesday...

GemmaTellerMorrow · 22/03/2020 22:34

Norma can he get to a post office before then? Most high street banks let you pay cash in to your account at any post offices

Bsharri · 22/03/2020 23:02

I think one of the rules is that your lockdown location is your primary address

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Do you (or anyone) have a source for that? Anyone from Spain, France or Italy? I have always been registered to vote/paid council tax in 2 locations because I work away during the week but my passport/last tax return (self employed) are still registered to the home I own but I have just separated and my abusive ex has moved the OW in there. And there is no way I could get there anyway as it is the opposite side of the country and I don't have a car.

Itsjustmee · 22/03/2020 23:05

@HowIrresponsible
Seeing as I have paid £1100 to my solicitor I would hope that they have some idea
I have to pay for a hotel & drive 4hrs plus there and 4hrs back and take time off work to do this .
For something I didn’t actually do (which I can prove this 100 percent and have given this evidence to my solicitor ) but because I didn’t get a letter it’s gone to court and I have no choice but to attend .
Any other time and I would accept it as shit happens get on with it but it’s the thought of the drive that’s killing me and not knowing possibly until I get there if they may be closed
SuperlativeScrubs Thank you hopefully we may go this way with our courts

NormaLouiseBates · 22/03/2020 23:06

@GemmaTellerMorrow no I think they'll be closed by the time he finishes work tomorrow, he's doing 7-5. Then on Tuesday he'll finish at 3.00 so that's really the earliest he can go Sad

Honeyroar · 22/03/2020 23:07

Take it as pretty much given anyway.

LadyGAgain · 22/03/2020 23:14

Italy were given notice. 10,000 left north Italy and dissipated.

We should be given NO notice. Notice leads to spread.

Surely we could learn SOMETHING.

HowIrresponsible · 22/03/2020 23:22

@Itsjustmee you'd think a solicitor knew a total lockdown was coming or if courts would be open?

We have no idea.

Reginabambina · 22/03/2020 23:25

We got notice today.

Rhayader · 22/03/2020 23:52

Depends on your definition of “lockdown”, it’s more likely that travel for shopping, commuting, helping elderly/vulnerable would be allowed anyway. We’re not going to be welded into our homes.

The idea of lockdown would be to stop parties, gatherings etc

amy85 · 22/03/2020 23:54

I'm just starting to panic....what if I don't have time to do a food shop (single parent who's refusing to stock pile and just buying what she needs)....what If my kids are at their dads will there be time to get them back or will I have to spend lockdown by myself...what if
