Full lockdown - notice?

If we go into full lockdown how much notice would we get?

OP posts:
TheMemoryLingers · 23/03/2020 12:43

We need lockdown NOW - not in 10 days, not on Friday, not tomorrow but NOW.

There are two groups of people putting everyone else at risk -

  • People who are blatantly ignoring the advice, having parties, going to the beach, driving down to Cornwall or up to the Scottish Highlands.
  • The but it was fine because brigade. 'I drove to a local beauty spot for a walk but it was fine because I kept my distance from the other million people who were there' 'I went to see my elderly mother but it was fine because I only stayed half an hour and I've only got a bit of a cough.'

Because of these selfish dimwits we are all being put at risk.

Lockdown is now the only answer.

Aridane · 23/03/2020 12:48

I hope there is enough notice for me to get home!

TheMemoryLingers · 23/03/2020 12:53

People in other countries were allowed to get home, Aridane. What it means is that your destination/address might be checked en route to make sure you are just going home, not going off on holiday.

Frenchdoors1 · 23/03/2020 12:54

@TheMemoryLingers
Yes, exactly.
A poster from Italy said they all said they would be alright.....

Sunshine1239 · 23/03/2020 13:00

It won’t be announced today

Previously with schools etc Scotland and Ireland announced before England tho on same same

Scotland just had their conference and didn’t announce

crapette · 23/03/2020 13:05

In France we got 4 hours notice.

Whereabouts in France are you?

Macron made his speech at 8pm and the lockdown began at midday the following day which is a bit more than 4 hours.

RoseGoldEagle · 23/03/2020 13:06

I don’t think they should have to give notice. Things like food shopping, coming home from work or whatever would be allowed anyway, so the lockdown just stops anything non essential, which is what people should be doing anyway. I think picking your child up from uni would be classed as essential.

Menopauseandteensdontmix100 · 23/03/2020 13:25

He just needs to get on with a lock down now.
Also neither This Morning Presenters nor the Prime ministers talk or on other TV programs are presenters following and the 2M social distancing rules.
As well as the idiots on tv in close proximity on an outdoor gym and others too close together in the countryside. Their are also lots of reports on FB of idiot teen groups going round terrorising the neighbourhood locally.

ilovecakeandwine · 23/03/2020 14:03

I'm not sure what Boris expected tbh he closed the schools the weather is nice people go out . They have been told it's ok to go outside as long as you keep your distance which is fine but if a family of 4 go out and another and another so no wonder there were hundreds out .
Apparently McDonald's is rammed today with it closing tonight and again being a nice day . It most probably wouldn't be as busy if schools were open. I'm not saying it's not right to close schools but there is no point you may as well do a proper lockdown so that it's safe for all .

bobstersmum · 23/03/2020 14:48

What do you need notice for? You'll still be able to go out for essentials, ie to pick up shopping or medicines.

fuckweasel · 23/03/2020 14:57

Scotland just had their conference and didn’t announce

And the FM said at the end something like, 'that's all until tomorrow unless something happens this afternoon'.

Bittersweet12 · 23/03/2020 15:16

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe lockdown is the best thing also, but won't you still have DIMWITS not listening? There's hardly going to be police patrolling every street watching your house incase you leave, or if people go to see friends at there house ect no one would even know anyway would they?
I don't understand this is all soooo confusinf

Bittersweet12 · 23/03/2020 15:20

And id like to think people would just follow the rules that have already been put in place this has clearly shown people DONT.
It's so irritating to watch I just wish people would listen! I mean yeah if we go into lock down they will close parks ect, but what about people meeting in houses, no one would even know they were doing this

kittykat7210 · 23/03/2020 15:28

I have a pregnancy scan Wednesday, would I still be able to go? I’d need to get my husband to drive me and therefore our 2 year old would have to come as well as we can’t leave her home alone but it would look like a family outing but it’s a scan, I don’t have a letter though...

AutumnRose1 · 23/03/2020 15:38

Bobstersmum “ What do you need notice for?“

Whatever time they do it, some people will be at work, non essentials who were obliged to go in because of their employers, and with reductions in public transport, a two hour journey could easily become 4.

Some people, like me, will not be in their own home at present and there’s still not clear advice on whether you need to be at your official home or not. If I lockdown with elderly mum, it helps her, but will I be able to get my prescriptions - I hope so.

I don’t know whether it’s more or less responsible to go home and leave an 81 year old to fend for herself, if I was told I could visit weekly, it would help. If she had carers, they’d be coming in daily.

AutumnRose1 · 23/03/2020 15:40

Bittersweet “ but what about people meeting in houses, no one would even know they were doing this”

Well, public transport knows if you’re out

Saw 4 police cars while out on my walk this morning, presumably they will be around and there’s cctv on a lot of streets. ANPR will track cars.

Phones will track locations where possible.

GenderApostate19 · 23/03/2020 15:40

What will happen with parents who share child custody?
DD’s partner has 2 kids (4+6) with his ex wife, who moved 50 miles away with them to be with her new partner, DD and her F have them every weekend Fri-Sun and half the holidays. The new plan, as both couples have babies under one, is to have them for 2 weeks each.

It will be possible for him to drive across 3 counties to get them/return them, wont it?

Poor kids are having a hard time at the moment with the slightly older child of their Step Dad, who lives with them full time, shares a room with DD’s Stepson and has behavioural issues, they have been self isolating for 10 days and it has been awful apparently.

Yesterdayforgotten · 23/03/2020 15:42

I'm guessing none or very little and it would be imminent going by the previous measures.

MrsFogi · 23/03/2020 15:43

I think the notice has been decreasing in countries because there were a huge number of car accidents in Italy when they gave notice - everyone rushing to get somewhere else/buy important stuff!!
Hint - you do not want to have a RTA at the moment, don't go out unless you absolutely have to!

Bittersweet12 · 23/03/2020 15:51

But people still have cars, and Britain is huge the police wouldn't be able to monitor every single person that left there house, and what would stop someone saying they were just going to the shop?
I'd like to think if we went into lock down people would follow the rules and stay in, but realistically I think you'd have people still breaking the rules! I don't see why people just can't follow them anyway x

GabsAlot · 23/03/2020 15:56

id say 24 hours but who knows they have to get the bill thnrough first prob-id prefer some nitice

Troubledmummy3 · 23/03/2020 15:58

Everyone needs to try and be as close to home as they safely can get as soon as possible in case the government doesn't give much notice...I think they'll announce lockdown today to come into effect today at midnight. If they don't announce this I will be shocked...because they've already left it too long...

crapette · 23/03/2020 16:05

what would stop someone saying they were just going to the shop?

We have to have a signed and dated piece of paper for every trip.
If you had a boot full of shopping from Tesco with a receipt timed at 9am and you are stopped several miles away at 4pm you have clearly been somewhere else. We would get an automatic fine.

There are police everywhere stopping cars and checking everyone's papers and ID - even in our sleepy little village that has just a post office and a bakers. People have cars here too and France is much bigger than the UK. If you get stopped they will make a note of yor registration.

but what about people meeting in houses, no one would even know they were doing this

Well how would you get to said house? You cannot be outside without a good reason.

Bittersweet12 · 23/03/2020 16:12

I guess that's reassuring to know that people would have no choice but to follow the rules. The uk are just ignorant and would probably try and get around it some how if we was to lock down, I wish we could be like other countries where the citizens aren't panic buying absolutely everything so there's nothing left for anyone and actually just followed the rules that were in place rather than just ignoring! I've always been so proud to be British but in this time not so much:( how sad x

dottiedodah · 23/03/2020 16:13

NormaLouiseBates I thought that Banks were an essential service ? My question would be are we able to shop at the nearest large supermarket about 2.5 miles away ,rather than the crappy local store ? Will we have a pass out to print online ?
