Full lockdown - notice?

If we go into full lockdown how much notice would we get?

This is the whole problem with mismanagement of communication.
It's a shocking way to deal with mass population communciation

It's what has caused panic buying. People are uncertain of what is happening, is going to happen and that causes anxiety and panic.

If the government were really clear and had said in terms

  • we are telling you to avoid non-essential contact. this includes fucking around on the beach, in the park, seeing your friends in the garden
  • we will give the UK 24/48hours to see if this is honoured. If it is, then we will resist imposing more measures.
  • if it isn't honoured, then we will have to lock down the whole country. If we do that, it will mean you can't go out unless you have paper work, going out is only permitted for key workers who have to get to work, essential food shopping (one person per house hold) and to assist family in an emergency situation.
  • if we are forced to impose a lockdown, it is likely we will give no notice/1 hour notice/ 4 hours notice/12 hours notice.

JUST BLOODY TELL US RATHER THAN THIS CRAPPY HINTING AND INDUCING MORE UNCERTAINTY AND PANIC BUYING.

Will they really have to wait until the bill is passed on Thursday? Weather good this week so I’m fully expecting thousands of morons enjoying a bit of ‘holiday time’ every single day this week. If the plan is to lockdown surely Boris should act quickly. Thursday/Friday is a long time in terms of virus transmission.

FecktheBoss · 23/03/2020 06:16

We might get bojo asking hairdressers, barbers, clothes shops etc to close but I doubt to would be enforced until after the coronavirus bill has passed.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/03/2020 06:23

I'm half expecting this afternoons press conference to announce it starting from midnight.

We are due to pick ds and his gf up from uni on Saturday. I have texted him to tell him to be ready to be collected earlier. I'm working today about 90 minutes from him so rather than coming home after work I suspect I'll be heading in the other direction to get them.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/03/2020 06:30

We have a uni ds on alert as well to be picked up with three hours notice (our travel time)

I don’t think it will be yet though.

Metoyoutoo · 23/03/2020 06:31

I expect he would announce it for the following day. The weather is to be nice next couple of day so I hope it’s done soon or people will be acting like it’s the summer holidays

wecandothispeeps · 23/03/2020 06:32

Almost none, a few hours tops. We know it is coming, no one will be surprised surely.

ComeOnGordon · 23/03/2020 06:35

I’m in a lockdown zone. We got 12 hours notice. But the shops are still open - we deliberately didn’t go in those 12 hours because I presumed it would be busy but my daughter went the next day & said it was absolutely fine. The government won’t starve you!! Work, food shopping & other medical necessities are allowed.

ValleyoftheHorses · 23/03/2020 06:41

Banks will be open. DH works for a big bank and last week was spent contingency planning for lockdown.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/03/2020 06:48

It doesn't matter if you don't have time to do a food shop. You will still be allowed out in lockdown to buy food.

Metoyoutoo · 23/03/2020 06:51

I think it’s going to be tonight now after the alert I’ve Had about rushing through laws. Hope
So. Just wait until you see all the people who went out in droves, moan about their freedom being taken away

@FannyCann

In Finland most babies sleep in a box.
See how little you need.

Total offtopic but they certainly don't. Historically this was more common, and whilst the baby box has been designed for this to support those who don't have a crib, we buy baby furniture just like any other nation.
(But I agree, not a lot of it is essential)

eaglejulesk · 23/03/2020 07:03

We got 48 hours notice here in New Zealand. We will still be able to go to supermarkets and pharmacies once it is in place.

bookish83 · 23/03/2020 07:11

@Blizy

You might want to buy some newborn size 1
Nappies, somewhere for baby to sleep and blanket, sleep suits, sudocrem, wipes, muslin cloths, vests, breast pads and sanitary pads for you, and some pre made formula just in case (even if you plan on breastfeeding)

And a free white noise app or a white noise machine!

They are the basics we have used for the beginning x

TheMemoryLingers · 23/03/2020 07:19

Other countries' lockdowns allow for people going out to buy food or medication and to go to work; also for limited exercise/dog walking within your area.

We should all have been adhering to those guidelines anyway

If you've been following government advice a lockdown should make little difference to what you're already doing.

MrsMozartMkII · 23/03/2020 07:20

We're due to move. Was aiming to do it over a couple of weeks and give me chance to clean the current (rented) house once all the furniture was out. Hm. Will have to rethink how to manage it all.

I have no problem with lockdown as I think we desperately need it. I moved some things yesterday as no space for them at the new place yet, and the number of cars parked in the picnic spots and people just generally milling about without a thought for social distancing was unreal.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/03/2020 07:31

I hope we don’t get long when this is finally announced. People are already flooding holiday destinations.

Blitzy
To add to that list:

If the baby is average sized 0-3 month clothes will be ridiculously big. Dd was around 7.5lb and didn’t start wearing them till she was 3 months. You would probably need to get a pram, car seat (hospitals don’t often let mums out without one or is this changing in the current climate?). I never got a white noise machine or played music to dd... depends on the baby I maybe. She was very laid back. However I cannot imagine there will be no deliveries of equipment etc. Babies will still be being born.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/03/2020 07:32

Hoping it gets announced at the press conference today to come into effect tomorrow.

At the very very least he should
announce closure of non essential businesses from today.

slipperywhensparticus · 23/03/2020 07:32

My daughter is still refusing to come home from university I've given up trying to convince her now she will most likely end up locked down there it will quite frankly be a good life lesson for her because no matter how often I tell her we might be locked down your two hours away I need time to prepare getting to you (she has two younger brothers) she just gives me 🎶 la la la la la 🎶 🙇‍♀️

Oaksquarebox · 23/03/2020 07:34

I think it will be announced in the 5 pm briefing so example 5 pm tonight for everything to close midnight the next day, ie tomorrow.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/03/2020 07:57

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-emergency-laws-as-uk-heads-towards-lockdown-11962132

This sounds like it is coming soon but it's down to the new laws.

bookish83 · 23/03/2020 08:00

@Mummyoflittledragon

Th sizing is true. My baby is 8 weeks still in 0-1. We needed an emergency newborn size dash whilst in hospital.

The white noise all is free 😊 just thinking ahead to if she needs something to settle baby. Ours sleeps well but sometimes the noise just sends him to sleep very quickly. In the first weeks babies can miss the cozy noisy womb!

X

People need to be told to return to their primary residence immediately. Coastal and rural communities are already over run with tourists who travelled last week. Some of whom have done so to ‘self isolate’ Angry

30not13 · 23/03/2020 08:09

Matt Hancock on bbc this morning confirming that they are discussing this afternoon and putting a bill through to allow them further powers in regards to shutting stuff down curfews lockdown etc
