Anyone know what time to expect it today? Is Boris doing it today?

I see the BBC have a Coronavirus daily special 4.10-5.40pm today so presuming it will be then?

Do you think we'll have any announcements today? I'm hoping there are more lockdown measures announced. I think it's time to shut non essential shops and enforce social distancing.

I don't know the answer but would also be interested to know. Did he do one yesterday? If so I missed it 😳

Ricekrispie22 · 22/03/2020 10:01

Yesterday it was at 2pm.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 10:06

Boris was missing from yesterday's, it was the food, environment and rural affairs (I think) secretary running it, it was basically urging people not to panic buy.

I'm hoping it's a proper one today, as I want to see more action now, I just wondered with it having a big time slot if that meant it had big announcements.. but that might be wishful thinking.

Boris was missing from yesterday's, Presumably he was in meetings with other people and chose to delegate. Though my fb page has had a lot of posts about him being part time and fucking off when the going gets tough - much like they did when he went to Chequers the weekend before the COBR meeting!

Seems pointless to me. He will obviously be doing whatever it is he needs to be doing!

If only we all could say the same!

bridalpanics · 22/03/2020 10:12

Ahhhh ok. Yes it would be good to have more stringent instructions as so many people are just not social distancing!! 😡

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 10:15

Yes, I'm choosing to hope / believe that there was serious meetings going on yesterday that will come to light this evening.

Anyone seen any confirmation of time yet?

Justgivemethehobnobs · 22/03/2020 13:58

I'd like to know this also.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 14:01

Today, Sunday, 22 March, 2020 the conference will take place at 4:30pm.

Didn't want to link article as it was in the Sun, but seems we can expect Boris to address the nation at 4.30pm.

So presumably that is in the BBC programming between 4.10-5.40pm, hopefully this means a big announcement is on the way.

Thanks coverting

DoubleAction · 22/03/2020 14:07

Some of those press conferences are quite long and whilst I do think they are necessary, it's a big chunk of time out of a day that must be really very busy.

Justgivemethehobnobs · 22/03/2020 14:11

@covetingthepreciousthings thank you

Eggcited · 22/03/2020 14:11

hopefully this means a big announcement is on the way.

Whatever the announcement I hope it actually has the detail to go along side it. I'm still dealing with the last minute key worker fiasco, as that announcement was very lacking in detail, until early morning on Friday, the same day the schools closed.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 14:13

Does anyone else think they need to have clear concise bullet point slideshows after the speeches? I think there's sometimes too much filler in the talk and important or clear points get lost.

OP posts:
covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 14:14

Bold fail 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
DoubleAction · 22/03/2020 14:15

I think the school fiasco was because the Welsh and Scots jumped the gun. They put the announcement out without detail because there was none at that point.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 16:05

Not long to go now.. praying for enforcements and non essential business closure.

misselphaba · 22/03/2020 16:29

The radio silence today makes me think perhaps we are in for stricter measures.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 16:30

Me too, I think it's due at 5pm now and not 4.30

OP posts:

I don't see how it can be immediate. We need to sort out what's going on in schools first. Still too much unclear about who should/shouldn't be there.

How did it work in other countries? I thought they closed pubs & non essential businesses then next stage was pretty much a lockdown?

OP posts:
Jenasaurus · 22/03/2020 16:39

has it started yet

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 16:41

@Jenasaurus no not yet, I think it's changed to 5pm now.

Any minute, Sky News going Live to Downing Street shortly

DoubleAction · 22/03/2020 16:48

I'm feeling quite anxious and not at all sure what I would consider "good news"

An awful lot has changed in the few days since we were being told keeping schools open was right.
