Hi all. I'm having a bad day Sad

I have some symptoms which could indicate the onset of the virus (diarreah, chills, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, chest pressure, feeling wiped out from doing as little as picking something up off the floor) and I'm feeling a bit vulnerable. I'm currently being isolated in the bedroom away from my young DC but if I do have it then they've inevitably been exposed and both have a cough.

Chances are it is CV as we live in a hot bed.

I'm mid 20's but my immune system isn't great and I'm frequently poorly with something or other. I had some health problems last year which I recovered from but my immune system is taking a while to catch up.

Regretfully I was a smoker and that became a crux when I was going through some pretty crap stuff. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about that. Please no doom mongering about smokers, I know it was a terrible habit Sad

I would really appreciate if any of you who believe they've had it would spare a minute to reassure me that they've come through it or know somebody who has.

@Bigcuppateacuresall I had identical symptoms that started third week of January. Did your throat feel “squeaky”? Mine was so inflamed some really odd sounds sometimes came out. 2 months later and I’m pretty much recovered (though don’t know if it was covid or not).

Bigcuppateacuresall · 23/03/2020 17:23

@Goatymcgoaty not squeaky just sore, it has come back this afternoon and feels like when you have a “lump in your throat” I think it may now be due to throat clearing and swallowing. Did you have the excess mucus down throat, if so any tips on how to deal with it because it’s really getting annoying me now.

Goatymcgoaty · 23/03/2020 17:31

Yep, weird mucus rattling about in windpipe but the cough itself was quite dry. Like trying to cough up a solid lump of rattley air.

I’ve even been to ENT (private referral so quick) as thought it was thyroid. They did tests and were mystified. Which makes sense - there’s nothing structurally wrong as it’s a virus.

lucymaudmonty · 23/03/2020 20:14

@Goatymcgoaty @Bigcuppateacuresall

This is so strange- I was very poorly in early feb with sore throat, fever, cough, pain in breast bone and STILL now have the weird lump in throat, excess mucus, swallowing thing......COULD I have had cv????

Goatymcgoaty · 23/03/2020 20:16

Don’t think any of us will know until we either “get the real thing” or get an antibody test

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 00:49

How is everybody doing?

Day 6

Still no temperature or continuous cough for me. Throat doesn't feel that sore tonight. I feel run down and not fantastic but nothing like some of the earlier accounts in the thread and I'm thankful for that. My main gripe at the minute is this horrible metallic taste in my mouth that won't go away, the aches and fatigue is bearable.

No further toilet trouble.

Seriously reconsidering whether it is CV after all. I don't want to jinx myself...

About seven weeks ago my dc were both really ill with coughs, high temperatures, fatigue and loss of appetite. They were really unwell for a couple of weeks and both lost a lot of weight. I am now wondering if they both had it?

InconvenientPeg · 24/03/2020 01:21

I think I have it. No symptoms but fatigue and loss of sense of smell about 5 days ago, was recovering from a heavy period and another virus, so just put it down to that. I was self isolating just incase and because I felt illish and didn't want to pass random other germs on. Today have seen that the loss of sense of smell is a symptom, plus yesterday started with a burning sensation when I try to take a deep breath and today with a dry cough.

Thankfully went out on sat to get veg, after 7 days at home, but stayed well back from everyone. So really hoping I haven"t passed it on. Now self isolating in our loft bedroom with ensuite, hoping that I haven't passed it to DH or the kids.
This post is very reassuring, there's been (rightly) so much focus on the severe cases, that it's easy to forget that many people are just I'll, rather than 'hospital' ill.

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 01:33

It's possible Lanc. There are loads of people now considering they may have had it before it really hit the headlines. Are they ok now? Hope they're feeling much much better

Inconvenient, I hope you're ok. Its a confusing illness for sure. There seems to be a pattern of recovery then getting unwell again. It makes it difficult to know when to start counting from. If you don't mind would you let us know how you get on over the next few days? I'm interested in people's progression from symptoms. I'll keep updating too.

Hello everyone, I came down with a fever last night - started with chills then started to burn up. Still have it this morning - thermometer says it's 38.8.
I have no other symptoms really. I had a bit of a scratchy thought yesterday and coughed about 6 times - definitely not persistent or continuous though. I've got lower back pain but think it's from a long walk we did on Saturday probably.
The only weird thing is that I felt nauseous last week for about 2 days and very tired - although I was sleeping badly so put it down to that - which it still could be!
If this is cv I caught it at school - I'm a teacher. I feel ok really, hope that continues.

Camomila · 24/03/2020 07:08

DBro probably had it - paramedic so lots of chances to pick it up - 3 days of fever, headache, and exhaustion then fine again.

Then DS1 got ill (but it could also be a nursery bug!), constant cough, 2 days of fever, exhausted - had naps/fell asleep on sofa without bedtime 100 stories, 1 episode of loose bowls, conjunctivitis (gets it every time he's poorly), and tmi - halitosis. Day 6 now, he's been fine and playing apart from the first 2 days, just cross and coughing.

I have a little cough, but tbh I've also been stuck inside and have allergies so it's just as likely that.

LancashirePeeler · 24/03/2020 07:09

They are fine now Roostersmum and thanks for asking.

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 09:38

and tmi - halitosis

I've just done a quick search of what comes with halitosis and... the metallic taste i have in my mouth is a symptom.

I've been thinking it is oral thrush.

Can people with halitosis smell their own bad breath? I can't, but I can sure taste metal.

FWIW I'm meticulous about cleaning my teeth and never skip days so this is unusual for me

Update. Still crazily tired, nose is getting a bit blocked, before whatever was stopping the sense of smell was really high in my sinuses. Lungs are no worse than yesterday, just burn at the end of a normal breath.
Have told work I'm off (I wfh part time normally) would normally just crawl to my desk if I felt like this and get through it, but concerned if I push it, that I will make it worse and end up being very ill. Work are fine about it.

It's so disconcerting not knowing what the cycle of the illness is. Never really thought about how much reassurance we get from that.

Porcupineinwaiting · 24/03/2020 09:50

Spot on @InconvenientPeg - the fear of what may come next is often worse than the symptoms.

Day 4 here. Slept well last night. Feel better than yesterday but still fatigue and burning skin and chills. Tummy still not right but not very bad either.

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 09:52

Popfan & inconvenientpig, I hope it's a short and manageable period of illness for you both. Definitely rest as best you can, plenty of fluids, paracetamol (not ibuprofen) if needed

I'm laid in bed very tired, I felt better last night than I do at the moment. My throat feels very dry and sore this morning and my eyes are sore and itchy, it feels like I have sand in them Confused

I also have an almost completely blocked nose.

I don't like waking up with a sore throat because of all the accounts I've read of it being a precursor to the cough and temp and general awfulness.

DH left me a cup of tea at the door so I'm going to drink that and see how I feel.

I felt almost fine last night. What a pain.

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 09:54

@Porcupineinwaiting burning skin sounds really uncomfortable :( what day are you guys on again? It's 6 for me

OP posts:
Porcupineinwaiting · 24/03/2020 10:08

Day 4 here.

Burning skin thing is not so much uncomfortable as strange. Never had anything like it before.

I am finding I always feel worst in the mornings then better as the day goes on. Sore throat always appears early evening though. Drink plenty, really lots and lots, and have you tried salt water gargle for your throat?

Delphk · 24/03/2020 10:14

Popfan · 24/03/2020 11:35

Thank you @Roostersmum2 I'll be checking in here regularly. I have the slight feel of burning skin too and really thirsty.
Just feel under the weather really. As has been said it's the not knowing what's to come!!

Popfan · 24/03/2020 11:38

And I had sore and itchy eyes last week - again just pit it down to not sleeping. You can read so much into all this!!

Booboostwo · 24/03/2020 11:55

Day 7 here. My GP thinks I have it but no test available.

DS 5yo had it first. Started with 3 days of a cough then 4 days of runny nose and random spikes of fever to 38.8. He is still coughing 12 days later but he is better. He is asthmatic which might explain the cough.

I started with a sore back and dry cough for 3 days, the one weird temperature spike to 38.8 and a very congested nose. I have recurrent sinusitis which may have added to things as I have the most congested nose ever. Both nostrils completely blocked at times. Very dehydrated, metallic taste in mouth, can’t smell or taste anything. Two nights ago I had a tough time breathing lying down, felt like a heavy weight was on my chest and had lung spasms.

A bit better now, still blocked nose and awful awful mucus as well as endless cough.

FloconDeNeige · 24/03/2020 12:00

Pretty sure DH had it about 3 week’s ago. We’re in Switzerland and he had extensive work business on the border with northern Italy last month. He had a high temp and shortness of breath. Completely recovered now (he’s 38).

lyralalala · 24/03/2020 12:12

BIL had it and is now, thankfully, well on the way to recovery

He had surgery on his jaw. Then 5 days later came down with a serious fever. He only got tested because they took him into hospital under sepsis protocol (he had sweat pouring off him, but his hands and feet felt cold).

He is 35 and said for four days his chest felt like he was under a rugby ruck. Combined with the fever he felt properly grim and said he had a few moments where he completely regretted being a smoker then vaper.

He’s to be tested again tomorrow and they’re expecting he’ll now be clear of it. Then he had 7 days quarantine and then he can be back with his girlfriend and their little baby.
