Hi all. I'm having a bad day Sad

I have some symptoms which could indicate the onset of the virus (diarreah, chills, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, chest pressure, feeling wiped out from doing as little as picking something up off the floor) and I'm feeling a bit vulnerable. I'm currently being isolated in the bedroom away from my young DC but if I do have it then they've inevitably been exposed and both have a cough.

Chances are it is CV as we live in a hot bed.

I'm mid 20's but my immune system isn't great and I'm frequently poorly with something or other. I had some health problems last year which I recovered from but my immune system is taking a while to catch up.

Regretfully I was a smoker and that became a crux when I was going through some pretty crap stuff. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about that. Please no doom mongering about smokers, I know it was a terrible habit Sad

I would really appreciate if any of you who believe they've had it would spare a minute to reassure me that they've come through it or know somebody who has.

Say not day 🙄

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/03/2020 08:15

Apparently you're not supposed to be infectious after 7 days. I'm a bit Hmm about this as in the early days, they were insisting people in isolation had 2 negative virus tests before being released into the general population again. I think I'm going to be in this room a few days yet. Also think about how it needs to be cleaned as I've presumably been coating everything in virus for the past week. Envy 《not envy》

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 10:36

Did everyone else get this kind of "spaced out" feeling? I feel so weird

Superlooper · 26/03/2020 10:46

@ofwarren

It's 14 days in Ireland + 5 days without a fever.

7 days seems short alright

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/03/2020 10:48

@ofwarren funny you should say that. Yes just having a bout of that right now.

haverhill · 26/03/2020 10:51

My colleagues, both early 50s, had all the symptoms and are OK now. They said it was unpleasant but not horrendous.

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 10:52

@porcupineinwaiting
It makes me so anxious. It comes in waves. Horrible sensation.

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 10:53

That's good to know @haverhill
If it stays like it's feeling now, I will cope. It's very unpleasant but bearable so far.
This is day 3. No temperature yet.

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/03/2020 11:15

@ofwarren on the one hand I haven't needed a week in bed for years, so no, not exactly a walk in the park. On the other, the associated fear and uncertainty has been far, far harder than the actual illness.

It does seem to come in waves - better days, worse days, oh is this over, damn no it's not. Just have to ride it out. Even with the mildest case you should expect to be poorly for a week or two (and if less then that, bonus).

My advice is to take it a day at a time and only use social media in ways which reduce your anxiety. I had to pretty much sign off everything except a couple of threads on here for 5 days as I just couldn't cope.

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 11:17

Agree. The anxiety is making it far far worse

Realitea · 26/03/2020 11:39

My son is 19 and was at university at the time. He felt fine but out of nowhere developed a temp of nearly 39. He had an extremely sore throat and fatigue and a slight cough. He just slept and it lasted just three days. I am convinced he’s had it. This was around 20th February.

Roostersmum2 · 26/03/2020 12:11

Hi all, I'm not doing too bad

I had alot of fatigue and body weakness yesterday, I managed to sit on the sofa for most the day which is an improvement from being in bed.

Today: sore throat, mild headache, fatigue is still there. I haven't got out of bed yet. When I woke earlier if felt like I was shorter of breath than normally but couldn't be sure that I wasn't imagining things.

I'm swaying between CV and not CV. In the absence of a temp and hacking cough I'm finding myself thinking "It can't be" but then remember that not everybody gets those symptoms (see my article linked on page 7)

I was less anxious yesterday, a little bit more so today.

I'm on day 8. Hope everybody else is ok and not too stressed.

Hi all, I'm pretty convinced I haven't got cv. I feel fine today, no temp and no other symptoms. A few other people at work also had the same 24 hours or so temperature and are now also ok so think it's the same bug. It's all a bit weird though! I think I was tired and run down and just caught something else.
Roostersmum2 - in the absence of any temperature or cough I'd say you don't have it, just another nasty bug.

Roostersmum2 · 26/03/2020 14:26

That is pretty much what my counsellor has just told me, popfan.

(I'm having telephone sessions now)

She said another of her clients has definitely had it as they had the signature symptoms, everyone in the household had it badly for about 4 days then got better.

She said I sound wracked with stress and that is going to cause some pretty unpleasant symptoms like stomach upset and chest tightness, though she couldn't think what the awful metallic taste could be (she was a nurse for over two decades so I was hoping she might be able to advise on that part)

I seem to have forgotten just how profound the effects of stress and anxiety can be.

I've been told in no uncertain terms that I need to get outdoors and go for a (safe) walk in the sunshine and stop watching the news

Popfan · 26/03/2020 14:42

Sounds like very sensible advice! Your cross out made me smile too Grin Enjoy your safe walk in the sunshine x

LefttoherownDevizes · 26/03/2020 15:45

Rooster do you suffer from reflux/heartburn? That gives me a horrid taste in the mouth. I am on day 6 and symotoms now are odd cough/headache, fatigue and absolutely no taste or smell at all. The latter is the hardest to manage bizarrely!

I would love to be able to get outside, please tell me what you are on your walk

Roostersmum2 · 26/03/2020 16:09

I suffered terribly with heartburn/reflux in the latent stages of both pregnancies

I don't remember this metallic taste during those periods oddly enough, what I do remember from that was a 'burning bile' feeling and accompanying taste which is quite different to this metallic thing I have now

I haven't ventured outdoors yet but I have promised myself (and my counsellor) that I'm going to tomorrow. My charger has arrived so I'm defragmenting my laptop and have been doing nursery rhymes with the children Smile

Leftto your symptoms do fit the bill for covid, I hope you're feeling as ok as possible? Are you taking regular paracetamol and plenty of fluids?

OP posts:
LefttoherownDevizes · 26/03/2020 16:19

Thanks Rooster, I'm pretty sure I have it as we had confirmed cases at my work (uni) before we were shut down.

I really hope you enjoy your walk, please get out and enjoy the sun before the weather turns (just as my isolation period is up!)

LightenUpSummer · 26/03/2020 18:35

Flowers to all.

I seem to be on the mend, but like littlepond I'm worried my sense of smell/taste will never come back! They've never gone like this before. Nose isn't blocked or anything.

On the upside, I'm eating a lot less. Who knew that appetite was linked so much to anticipating the taste of food. Actually that's fairly obvious now I think about it. I may have been on my own too long (day 6) Grin

FromEden · 26/03/2020 18:41

Sudden onset like that is a classic indicator of the flu. This virus does not come out of nowhere, but develops over days.

Realitea · 26/03/2020 21:13

I have read a few accounts from people who have had it and their symptoms have come from nowhere. My son just woke up with it
And can flu only last three days?
I’m not saying you’re wrong
We’re just really hoping he’s had it!

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/03/2020 21:22

One of the striking things about COVID 19 is that, for those it makes properly sick (rather than asymptomatic), is the gradual decline and long recovery period (1 -2 weeks). I hope your ds has had it but I certainly wouldn't encourage him to bank on it.

Popfan · 27/03/2020 13:52

How are you today @Roostersmum2? Have you got out for your walk?

Roostersmum2 · 27/03/2020 21:19

Hi all,

I'm doing well thank you for asking @popfan and yes I got out for my walk Smile

I've had more energy today, had a little dance with the DC this morning then went out in the sunshine for a walk by the water which was nice, got abused by some people walking a dog which wasn't so nice but at least we got some vitamin D Grin

Hope everybody else is doing ok

I still have that disgusting taste but no stomach trouble now and the aching limbs are much much better.

With hindsight I do think whatever I have isn't covid and is probably in part to do with being so stressed and run down
