Hi all. I'm having a bad day Sad

I have some symptoms which could indicate the onset of the virus (diarreah, chills, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, chest pressure, feeling wiped out from doing as little as picking something up off the floor) and I'm feeling a bit vulnerable. I'm currently being isolated in the bedroom away from my young DC but if I do have it then they've inevitably been exposed and both have a cough.

Chances are it is CV as we live in a hot bed.

I'm mid 20's but my immune system isn't great and I'm frequently poorly with something or other. I had some health problems last year which I recovered from but my immune system is taking a while to catch up.

Regretfully I was a smoker and that became a crux when I was going through some pretty crap stuff. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about that. Please no doom mongering about smokers, I know it was a terrible habit Sad

I would really appreciate if any of you who believe they've had it would spare a minute to reassure me that they've come through it or know somebody who has.

DD who has a low immune system and DH are just coming out off it. Between then temp, chills, shivers, sore throat, cough, fatigue and breathlessness.

Both much perkier today (day 4/5), I am coughing like mad and sore throat on day 1 and breathless too but fine.

It is scary as they are only giving coverage to extreme cases, quite rightly to keep people isolating, but don't forget that many more people recover than don't, especially women.

Good luck

Roostersmum2 · 21/03/2020 16:59

Thank you so much, that's great about your family

It's true about only the severe cases getting coverage, the media is having a field day with this.

I keep seeing ambulances rushing past with their sirens on because I'm anxious about this pandemic, my irrational brain is jumping to the conclusion that all of these emergencies are critical covid cases. I feel like an irrational twit.

I hope your symptoms get better soon!

My DB is convinced he had it a few weeks ago. We all took the piss at the time, but now with hindsight I wonder if he did. He had a very sore throat, cough, headache, diarrhea and was exhausted. Had to take a few days off work with it. But seems well now.

DartmoorChef · 21/03/2020 17:51

Im convinced me and dp had it in January along with quite a few others in our town. My dp is rarely ill. He had fever, the dry cough, felt like he couldn't breathe. No runny nose or usual cold / flu symptoms. The cough lingered a couple of weeks but he was only really rough for 3 days at the worst of it. Hes 38 and in good general health.

A week after him after thinking i had escaped his lurgy germs I came down with it, tight chest, high temperature and shivers, and a dry cough that was the worst bit. Im 51 and a smoker and I was ok after 3 days. Ive never had flu, rarely get colds and have a great immune system.

Im bloody convinced we had covid19. Others in our town had it too and everyone assumed it was just a bug going round but coronavirus wasnt even in the news.

Roostersmum2 · 21/03/2020 18:13

I appreciate the replies thank you. It gives me a little boost when I read that people have got better.

I'm currently laid in bed with a head ache, guts ache and back pain, a horrible metallic taste in my mouth is bugging me and has been a constant for the past two days.

DH has just brought me in soup and magazines so I can "read about something other than bloody coronavirus" I'm very thankful to have him off work this week.

There is definitely reason to believe it was around before it hit the news, didn't the Chinese government try to conceal it until the very last minute? I wouldn't be surprised if alot of people have had it and not realised what it was

Following - news is horrifying and I need some positives or I'll lost my nut

SubordinateThatClause · 21/03/2020 18:26

PS Hope you feel better OP! Sorry x

Peapod29 · 21/03/2020 18:28

I know someone in their 30s who’s had it and his 6mo baby daughter. He was tested as he’s a gp. He and baby are recovering. It was a nasty illness but neither needed hospital.

AltogetherAndrews · 21/03/2020 18:33

So I’m just recovering, the metallic taste was there, a cough and heaviness on the chest, a slight fever, sore all over and exhausted.

I have a compromised immune system, and 8 days on from start of symptoms I feel fine. My DH who has COPD has been completely fine, although is still in isolation for another week. I also smoke.

My dad who is 79, also has had symptoms and is now back on his feet.

For most people it’s going to be ok.

Fidgety31 · 21/03/2020 18:43

I was ill for a week. I started with headache and sore throat and then utter exhaustion. Falling asleep for several hours mid day etc
I had more chills than a fever and a bit of the runs but my breathing was ok.
Of course I wasn’t tested though so can’t say for definite it was coronavirus but I think I caught it on my holiday as that’s when I started to feel ill.

VenusOfWillendorf · 21/03/2020 18:47

My cousin has had it. Shes early 50s, and they live in Spain. She was in hospital and quite sick for a while, but came home on Weds and is doing well now.
Hope you feel better soon xx

Bookworm83 · 21/03/2020 18:53

I'm convinced I have it. 38 degrees fever since Tuesday night, not changing much despite taking paracetamol. Also starting to get a headache and muscle aches.

I'm 38+4 weeks pregnant and really concerned that if the baby comes before I recover, I'll inevitably pass it on to him!

Roostersmum2 · 21/03/2020 18:54

Again thank you! You are all helping, truly.

Anybody else who feels anxious do feel free to jump on and take comfort in the replies with me.

I've had no fever infact I feel freezing, alot of chills. I was watching a video from a woman in NZ who is in hospital isolated having been confirmed and she never developed a fever at all.

I must admit hearing about smokers getting over it has definitely dulled my sense of impending doom. I've been too scared to research the specific impact on those that smoke and develop covid but did imagine it wouldn't be pleasant.

I have read some lovely accounts of asthmatic patients making a good recovery though.

Does anybody know if I'm safe to take baclofen on the basis I may have this virus? I know ibuprofen is advised against so can't be sure about baclofen as isn't that an anti inflammatory too?

The baclofen is for a separate health issue I have

I think I have it and am terrified. I am a diabetic so have been as careful as I can be but I work in a petrol station although only for a couple of evenings a week. Im scared because my husband is in a very high risk group and has been self isolating for a week upstairs I am in the rest of house with my six children, some of them are showing signs too. I have no help and dont know what to do!

My symptoms started on wednesday, I have been suffering with a uti so am worried I wont be able to fight this off too. I started with diarrhoea and nausea, I also had the strangest chill sensation that would make all my hairs stand on end. Today my temp has started to rise and my chest feels weird. I dont know what to do, how do I look after my kids and keep my husband safe?

I hope this brings you some comfort. All evidence suggests that it is extremely rare for babies to be severely poorly from this.

That being said I do understand your concern Flowers

Hoping everybody who is unwell and worried feels much better soon

Pretty confident my father had it 2 weeks ago, although still tired easily now, he is pretty much back to normal whereas 2 weeks ago he couldn't get out of bed.
Cigar smoking late 50's male.

Roostersmum2 · 21/03/2020 19:02

Bailey are you able to get antibiotics for your UTI? I know doctors are still prescribing for non-covid ailments.

I do sympathise as you're in a difficult situation. Fortunately my DH has good health so is able to take over with the children. How old are your DC? Do you have older ones who can help with the others if you get to the point where you need to lay down? Sending strength, you may feel better tomorrow it does happen (fingers crossed)

OP posts:
FaFoutis · 21/03/2020 19:06

I'm getting over it at the moment, it's about day 10 for me I think. I had constant cough, exhaustion (still got those two symptoms), mild breathing problems, headache. There were two days where I couldn't get out of bed but the rest has been not too bad. I had chills but never caught a fever with the thermometer.

I'm sure my children have had it, they had headaches, mild cold symptoms and slept a lot. My youngest (age 10) has asthma and has been fine except for the tiredness and food tasting funny.

I hope this reassures someone.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 21/03/2020 19:07

We think our son might have had it 2-3 weeks ago. He got chills, aches and a really bad cough, it was incessant. He's fine now. At the time there weren't that many cases so when he said he thought he had it we thought he was being dramatic. Not so sure now.

SpeckledFrogsLog · 21/03/2020 19:09

I think I’ve had it am fine now. I kept a diary :

Day 1 - sore throat, earache, fatigue, muscle aches
Day 2 - sore throat, earache, cough
Day 3 - sore throat, earache, cough, extreme fatigue, muscle aches
Day 4 - cough, earache (feeling better)
Day 5 - cough, extreme fatigue, muscle aches, headache, shakes
Day 6 - cough, no other symptoms, feel fine in myself
Day 7 - cough, no other symptoms, feel fine in myself
Day 8 - occasional cough, no other symptoms, feel fine in myself
Day 9 - occasional cough, no other symptoms, feel fine in myself
Day 10 - all better, cough gone 🙂

I didn’t have a fever but to be fair I was regularly taking medication (even ibuprofen before the guidance changed) so that could have kept any temperature down.

Just hope at some point I can have the antibody test so I’ll know for certain.

Roostersmum2 · 21/03/2020 19:17

You lot are the best, big thanks to all of you

I've got a couple of packets of paracetamol in the cupboard for when I really need them. I bought ibuprofen before the guidance changed (was preparing myself) but won't be using that now.

I've totally lost my appetite and I'm usually a great eater. Today I've had 3 biscuits and a small bowl of tomato soup.

Must remind myself (and others) to keep strength up!

OP posts:
rogdmum · 21/03/2020 19:17

Pretty sure DH and I have it just now though I’m over the worst. I’ve had fever, aches, head feeling as though it would explode, short of breath, sore throat, cough and loss of smell (which I didn’t realise until I read some people experiencing it and I went to check!).

I’m 51 and it has been unpleasant but manageable. DH has acute sinusitis and he’s been struggling a lot more. He is so full of mucous from the sinusitis and short of breath from the Coronavirus that he keeps choking when he is coughing. It was very alarming a couple of nights ago but fortunately he got past it and it hasn’t been quite so bad since.

Eireni · 21/03/2020 19:45

The lack of testing is frustrating because we’ve no idea if we have had it or not, which would be very useful information to know!

I started with mild temp/cough/sore throat/lost my voice. 3-4 days later this became severe coughing and breathless with normal activity. I spent 4-5 days in bed, cough, high fever, couldn’t catch breath to talk most of the time, really extreme fatigue, out of breath just going from bed to bathroom. GP (phone) wasn’t interested as no travel history. Another 5-6 days feeling mostly ok but still with low fever, cough, and out of breath with activity, but could potter slowly around the house, watch telly etc.
Frustratingly this was all before the advice to self isolate etc came in, just as the first UK cases were confirmed but they were only interested in people that had traveled or had confirmed contact with a case. I probably picked it up on public transport it London. At least I effectively self isolated for 12 days anyway just due to being poorly, I didn’t think it was Covid19 at the start but I did by the end. If we’d been quicker off the mark (government I mean), I’d have self isolated from the start though, not waited to be severely poorly a few days in to symptoms. I feel terrible that in those first few days I probably infected others without realising.

bailey999 · 21/03/2020 19:51

Yes I have antibiotics thank goodness and my eldest is 19 and is being a great help!

Roostersmum2 · 21/03/2020 20:02

Just got out of bed to run a bath and I feel really weak so had a panic to DH. I've had to take some beta blockers because the anxiety isn't helping matters. I'm a nervous wreck at the best of times.
