Hi all. I'm having a bad day Sad

I have some symptoms which could indicate the onset of the virus (diarreah, chills, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, chest pressure, feeling wiped out from doing as little as picking something up off the floor) and I'm feeling a bit vulnerable. I'm currently being isolated in the bedroom away from my young DC but if I do have it then they've inevitably been exposed and both have a cough.

Chances are it is CV as we live in a hot bed.

I'm mid 20's but my immune system isn't great and I'm frequently poorly with something or other. I had some health problems last year which I recovered from but my immune system is taking a while to catch up.

Regretfully I was a smoker and that became a crux when I was going through some pretty crap stuff. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about that. Please no doom mongering about smokers, I know it was a terrible habit Sad

I would really appreciate if any of you who believe they've had it would spare a minute to reassure me that they've come through it or know somebody who has.

I may well have done and it took 2 weeks but fine now.

My boss almost definitely had it but didn't need hospital care - he was textbook moderate case rather than mild. Off for 3 weeks, back now but light duties kind of thing as still very tired.

LightenUpSummer · 24/03/2020 12:45

I'm on day 4 of whatever I have which may or may not be it. Started with all-over ache, which has continued but is easily manageable with paracetamol, then dry sometimes phlegmy cough, hot/cold fluey thing, headache, and now more traditional cold symptoms (sneezing, runny nose).

About the taste - can anyone else describe it? Mine started on day 2, and is mostly noticeable when eating (less so with drinks).

For me, it's not exactly metallic as much as sort of chlorine, or that taste/feeling when you've gone underwater in a swimming pool. Sort of like being full of chemically fumes? But only really when I'm eating (which is less, as appetitte has reduced). At first I though there was something wrong with the food.

If we're all getting the same taste then maybe it's an indication of the same illness?

Petiolaris · 24/03/2020 12:58

I’m convinced I had it four weeks ago. It started with a dry cough, then fever and nausea, then the worst sore throat I’ve ever had - I could barely breathe it was so swollen. I temporarily lost my taste and part of my hearing and my cough became chesty. No runny nose or anything which is why I’m convinced it wasn’t flu.

I’m still coughing a month later and any physical activity makes me struggle for breath. Any fumes make me choke, I can’t even stand the smell of deodorant or paint. No idea if I’ve had it of course, because I couldn’t get tested.

LightenUpSummer · 24/03/2020 13:04

Yeah I really can't wait to get tested, I really hope this is it and I'm immune now, which means I can't (or much less likely to) get it again and also can't transmit it.

Immune people might be very useful soon, maybe to deliver supplies? We could all be put to work Grin

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 13:47

Thank you for the continued replies all!

My throat is pretty sore again now and the roof of my mouth at the back feels like somebody has been rubbing it with sandpaper. My guts are also making some questionable noises and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have the runs again.

Just as I expected I've jinxed myself by saying I felt so much better. Oh balls.

I've been in bed all day drifting in and out of sleep

OP posts:
LightenUpSummer · 24/03/2020 15:22

Oh no OP Flowers are things looking up now?

Hope your sore throat doesn't stop you sleeping, that's the worst thing about them I find.

I think I confused myself about the test - I thought it could show whether we've had it and are immune, but in fact perhaps it can only say whether we're currently suffering from it?

I really ought to know this sort of stuff!

LightenUpSummer · 24/03/2020 15:23

Oops, on re-reading I see that you're drifting in and out of sleep so clearly it's not stopping you Blush

itsgettingweird · 24/03/2020 16:11

Roosters my ds is on baclofen. He is 15 and takes 60mg a day. We haven't been advised to stop it and GP gave me repeat last week (little earlier than needed) in case we got stuck inside (we are!) as I'm a LP.

I have stopped using ibuprofen for his muscular pains and just paracetamol (although as were inside mainly he's not I much pain as not walking around!) and GP gave me an emergency prescription for paracetamol because of the panic buyers clearing the shelves daily.

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 17:09

I am managing to sleep which is great, it's the only peace I get from worrying Blush

Throat feels increasingly sore, chest is starting to burn a bit.

I got up to get vitamins and my baby made a speed crawl for me so I had to dart back into the bedroom Sad

I got the government text today saying to stay indoors, I think everyone is getting them eventually. 10 minutes later I got an email from the sepsis trust reminding me that people with a recent history of sepsis are vulnerable to covid and covid can cause sepsis.. well that's just set me off big time and I'm having a cry.

I miss my babies, I miss being out in the fresh air and I'm really scared that I'm going to get worse.

Thank you all for talking to me

That is v.reassuring about the baclofen IGW thank you. I have acute myofascial TMD and haven't been taking any for the past week incase it aggravates the potential covid. I sleep much better when I do take baclofen as the pain reduces substantially

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 24/03/2020 17:46

Well we haven't been told anything so assume it's ok.
Ds has suspected hereditary spastic paraplegia. Don't know what's happening re specialist appointment next month (well obviously won't be at hospital but waiting to see if we qualify for telephone consult).

Popfan · 24/03/2020 19:02

@Roostersmum2 sorry you are worrying - it is worrying as it's all so unknown and presents differently in different people although there are common themes.
Try and keep your mind occupied - do you have a laptop? I subscribed to Disney plus and have been watching films which has been really good. Also keeping the rest of the house busy! Also, try not to go on social media, look stuff up - you can wind yourself up so easily. You can't do anything more than you are doing so don't read it!
Remember too that the absolute vast majority will recover fine. Take care

Naturallyunradiant · 24/03/2020 19:04

The burning skin is probably a good indicator or some sort of viral illness....I have the herpes virus and whenever I’m about to get one I get the burning pain in one of my legs, literally like my nerves are all at level 1000. Only thing that eases the pain is painkillers and prescribed acyclovir.

Naturallyunradiant · 24/03/2020 19:10

Think I’m on around day 7 here,
I am absolutely exhausted and very achy,
Tired last week and shoulders were sore along with a dry throat but just put it down to last week of work being stressful.
Developed a temp over the weekend and feel like I haven’t been warm since, my skin has gone extremely pale and feel like my hands almost had a blue tinge to them a few hours ago, feel quite lightheaded and like my sense of hearing is very heightened. Head feels like the after effects of a migraine when it’s very stuffy.
Lone parent with 2 kids so trying to sleep as much as possible but not getting an awful lot.
Possible youngest DC (4) has it as doesn’t leave my side and has been tired and congested this week, think older DC is ok so far

Naturallyunradiant · 24/03/2020 19:12

Also very nauseous, even at the thought of food, not like me at all, not even cake is tempting me at the moment Shock

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 19:32

Thank you popfun, I do have a laptop but have just been reminded I need a new charger. Ddog thought it would make a good chew toy. Now is the perfect time to get that replaced and I'll look into Disney plus Smile

I've got some abdominal pain and upper back pain now, the latter being more painful. God knows what that is about. I leant forward to pick something up and it felt like one side was ripping inside.

It also feels like I have a lot of trapped wind?

Naturallyunradiant, ditto to everything you've listed apart from the temp. I seem to be in a minority that doesn't have one (touch wood it stays like that). Hats off to you and other lone parents who are soldiering through with no help. I hope you feel much better soon

That's correct. They are just now developing a test to show who's had it. It looks like a research team might have one ready which will be really useful.

Popfan · 24/03/2020 19:51

Does anyone think they are reading things into various symptoms which are probably nothing and usually would be ignored? The temp is prob the only thing I have but linking stuff in - such as lower back pain (probably from a long hilly walk on Sunday) thirst (linked to temp I'd imagine) funny taste ( down to not eating much) etc etc. Also thinking back to things last week - nauseous (prob anxiety about events) very tired and itchy eyes (due to not sleeping for about 3 nights - which is very normal for me!)
Anyone else????!

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 19:59

Yep popfan, me

I have been trying to rationalize and attribute some niggles to being unrelated to CV, but then I made a thread about this awful metallic taste and most of those replying said they think I have coronavirus so that's sent me into a spiral Blush

OP posts:
Popfan · 24/03/2020 20:06

Roostermum Yep the dangers of social media!! This thread is great though.
I think I have a high chance of having cv as I'm pretty much never ill and this sort of thing doesn't happen generally! I'm a teacher so have built up a pretty strong immune system over the years and it's likely I picked it up at school.
There is an outside chance this could be slap cheek as we had loads with it and symptoms fairly similar. Rare in adults but more likely in primary school staff!
If you haven't got a temperature it might well be something else as it's the most common symptom by far .

Roostersmum2 · 24/03/2020 20:18

Very true, I've only seen one case in the media so far where the patient presented as having had no temperature at all for the duration.

I'm the opposite to you IRT my immune system, mine is absolutely pants. I've been taking alot of vitamins recently so if this does turn out to be nothing serious then at least it has pushed me into taking better care of myself.

I've just had a meal of delicious lamb chops, mash potatoes and spaghetti hoops (it went together better than you'd think) Grin so my appetite is ok today.

I’m convinced I’ve had it but ... in December. Impossible, I know.

It started with a raging temp and chills. Extreme fatigue and crawling into bed at 7pm. Then, a chesty feeling which just felt like I’d been injected with a ball of fire in my lungs. Then the cough started. I’d cough and cough and almost choke trying to get my breath.

I was isolated in the spare room. Barely ate. Had to force myself to drink. The cough was absolutely horrendous. Downing cough medicine like it was going out of fashion. Lozengers/paracetamol. Aches, chills and felt like my abdomen would burst.

It took a month to get over “whatever it was” but then I was left with breathlessness and couldn’t get a full deep breath in. Eventually, even though I knew he wouldn’t treat me for a cough, and he gave me a course of steroids, inhalers and course of antibiotics. I’m still not right. Get tired and breathless doing very little.

I can’t run. Still feel tired out. Still wake up coughing in the night. Cannot walk uphill as I used to.

If that was just the usual flu bug...I DO NOT WANT COVID-19.

I have a flu jab each year as I am a carer for my son.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 24/03/2020 20:22

Sorry, meant to say “eventually, saw my GP...”

TheLadyAnneNeville · 24/03/2020 20:26

Also, this evening, DH and I were talking food and I said “Don’t go mad with the garlic, I can’t taste it anyway since my cough”. He told me he’d read that the virus caused loss of taste. My taste buds have been fucked since whatever it was I had.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 24/03/2020 20:28

I think I’ve had it! I’ve got lupus and fibromyalgia and have been ill since end of Feb. Looking back I think ititially was corona. I’ve had an ear infection, burst eardrum and cellulitis in the ear. Last week was diagnosed with a chest infection. My immune system is terrible. BUT now on my third course of antibiotics I’m getting better. Young DCs and husband also had what I now think was CV at similar time to me but are all otherwise healthy and are recovered.
