LOCKDOWN

Does anyone think that the whole of the UK will be put on lockdown?

OP posts:
badcactus2020 · 21/03/2020 18:03

I feel like they have been too slow to act and that their messaging has been muddled. Looking at what's happening in Italy I feel like they need to put everyone on a full lockdown now. The death toll in Italy is terrifying nearly 800 in one day today.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/03/2020 18:04

London is empty, people are listening

Not in my part of London they're not. The park is mobbed and has been all week. My neighbours have been out meeting friends and bringing them back to our building. Other neighbours' kids are playing out together in the communal areas (so anyone wanting to leave their flat to go buy food has to run the gauntlet). It's infuriating. People are behaving like it's a bank holiday weekend.

Much as lockdown will be miserable, the sooner they do it the better. We need saving from ourselves asap or people will pay for it with their lives.

mrsrhodgilbert · 21/03/2020 18:07

By London what exactly does this mean do you think? How far out from the centre?

MaxNormal · 21/03/2020 18:08

I predict by next Friday, two weeks initially followed by another and possibly another after that.

HouseElfy · 21/03/2020 18:09

HundredMilesAnHour

Mine too. I'm in Lewisham.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/03/2020 18:12

I'm in Tower Hamlets, bordering Hackney. Most of East London appear to be in Victoria Park today (so I'm told by friends - I haven't left my flat today). Anyone not in the park is wandering round Whitechapel Sainsbury's trying to find some kind of food item in stock.

swimlyn · 21/03/2020 18:12

@LastTrainEast
swimlyn that quote is correct unless you mean a total lockdown until everyone is dead or recovered and that means no food or water as someone has to produce and get them to you.
I guess that ignorance really IS bliss…

@LittleRootie
Don’t read what bores you. Be selective. Facebook has all sorts of “advice” on it.

@cologne4711
Those going on about a lockdown don't understand exactly what it is. Do you really want to be under house arrest for weeks months on end?
Oh ffs. Yup. Ignorance really IS bliss…

allhailthegingerninja · 21/03/2020 18:12

My part of London is also really busy. My street is quieter, but the high street is as rammed as it always is at the weekend, the fucking farmers market was still on (because posh cakes and cider are essential at a time like this Hmm).
People are not listening. People are not taking this seriously. Please just bloody lock us all down!!!!!

allhailthegingerninja · 21/03/2020 18:14

And whoever said South Korea didn't lock down; they tested and contact-traced to within an inch of their lives. That ship has long sailed for us. We have no clue who has it in the community. We're screwed.

Widowodiw · 21/03/2020 18:14

Just get the lockdown on now whilst the kids are just out of school and not too
Bored and whilst people still have money in their pockets.

Alsohuman · 21/03/2020 18:15

Imagine being stuck in a flat with kids for 3 months and not being allowed out for a walk. There would be huge physical and mental health consequences

People in Italy and Spain don’t have to imagine it.

N Wales was ridiculously busy today. Caravan season has started. People taking umbrage at being asked not to.come.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/03/2020 18:16

Do you really want to be under house arrest for weeks months on end?

If that's what it takes to save thousands of lives, yes. At this rate we will end up being locked down for months and hundreds of thousands will also die. Why can't everyone just use some common sense and stay at bloody home?!

Try reading this as it explains in simple terms the difference staying home can make:

Exactly our situation. But everyone is in it together which makes it a bit more bearable.

Scruffyoak · 21/03/2020 18:17

People dont understand distancing and still seeing grandparents :(

artichokehearts · 21/03/2020 18:18

We need to.

UK daily deaths today is now 4th highest in the world, (behind Italy, Spain and Iran only). We will have it worse than Italy at the current rate.

cologne4711 · 21/03/2020 18:21

Oh ffs. Yup. Ignorance really IS bliss

No you're the one who is uninformed. A lockdown is very close indeed to house arrest. One person allowed out every 3 days to get essential shopping, or for medical appointments. No outside exercise (unless you have a dog and then it was to be the minimum to allow the dog to do its stuff). In some countries you are allowed a short walk, in others you aren't. And you have to use the nearest shop (so in my case that would be the small Spar attached to the garage).

I wonder what the rate of suicide and deaths by domestic violence will be with a total lockdown. On the plus side, deaths from road accidents and air pollution should decrease even with social distancing although I worry about those being out on the roads driving like idiots. I also worry that if you are the sole person allowed out to shop that you are at greater risk of attack if the streets are empty, but we'd need to see if there were any evidence of that from the countries who are practising it.

Helpwithaversion · 21/03/2020 18:21

Yes they should do it now. Today
Enforced by the army and police
Maybe that will stop all the idiotic elderly being out and the parents of all the children in parks ‘oh but it’s a lovely day’ absolute idiots

EvilPea · 21/03/2020 18:23

I wonder if All this talk of lockdown is fuelling it. People panicking about when they will be able to get out next so they are all going out.
Which obviously will make it a seelf fulfilling prophecy

StrawberryBlondeStar · 21/03/2020 18:24

@TheSheepofWallSt do you think they will lockdown London before rest of country? Surely, the risk is if they do that loads of Londoners will just flee to other areas and take the virus with them (on basis much higher outbreak in London).

Lynda07 · 21/03/2020 18:25

CORONAVIRUS RHAPSODY

Is this a sore throat?
Is this just allergies?
Caught in a lockdown
No escape from reality

Don't touch your eyes
Just hand sanitize quicklyyyy
I'm just a poor boy, no job security
Because of easy spread, even though
Washed your hands, laying low
I look out the window, the curve doesn't look flatter to me, to me

Mama, just killed a man
Didn't stay inside in bed
I walked by him, now he's dead
Mama, life was so much fun
But now I've caught this unforgiving plague

Mama, oooo
Didn't mean to make them die
If I'm not back to work this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if people didn't matter

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody, I've got the flu
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth

Mama, oooo
I don't wanna die, I sometimes wish I never went out at all

I see a little silhouette of a man
What a douche, what a douche
Did he even wash his hands though
Security is tightening
Very very frightening me

I'm just a poor boy facing mortality
He's just a poor boy facing mortality
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

Touch your face, wash your hands?
Will you wash you hands
BISMILLAH NO, WE WILL NOT WASH OUR HANDS ( WASH YOUR HANDS!)
BISMILLAH NO, WE WILL NOT WASH OUR HANDS (WASH YOUR HANDS!)
BISMILLAH NO, WE WILL NOT WASH OUR HANDS (WASH YOUR HANDS!) WASH YOUR HANDS (never, never, never wash your hands oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh mama mia, mama mia, wash your hands
Covid-19 has a sickness put aside for me, for me

So you think you can stop me and just shake my hand?
So you think we can hang out and not break our plans?
Oh baby, can't do this with me baby
Just gotta stay home,
Just gotta stay home with my fever

Oooooo

Curving can get flatter, anyone can see
Curving can get flatter
Curving can get flatter, you'll see

Just look out your windows....

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 18:25

I think in italy a cull of dogs is coming - i.e your dog has to go if it cant do its bussines in your private propety.

Evenstar · 21/03/2020 18:26

My cousin has put a picture on Facebook of her and her 20 year old soon visiting her parents who are in their 80’s with poor health. The sooner there is a lockdown the better, my cousin also works in an assisted living facility so should know better 😢
