Does anyone think that the whole of the UK will be put on lockdown?

@Flaxmeadow it sounds like you put them all first ahead of your needs. They are all adults, look out for yourself at the moment. 💐

Merename · 21/03/2020 13:50

It would be ridiculous to do London at a different time to the rest of the country, people would just leave and spread it. They need to do it now. We don’t have enough ventilators - over 65s will not likely be getting ventilated if they need it. This is happening in other parts of the world. People must take this seriously and isolate themselves, even if family disagree and even if the government doesn’t cop on.

StormyClouds · 21/03/2020 13:51

A lockdown is not effective as it simply means the virus will come back after.

We'd be far better IMO to follow the example of South Korea who have managed to control the virus with testing, testing and testing. Nothing has closed and people who are not infected or vulnerable can carry on with their lives as normal.

kittykat7210 · 21/03/2020 13:51

Oh derby I absolutely agree, but they’ve been talking about locking down London for a week and still haven’t done it despite half of all cases being in London/the fringe. Makes me think they will drag their heels for at least another week for the rest of the UK

NCTDN · 21/03/2020 13:54

I think by next Friday at the latest.

Where does it say Boris isn't doing it today? On my sky tv guide it says 'conference by the prime minister'

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 21/03/2020 14:00

Sooner the better as far as I'm concerned, sooner it happens the sooner it can be over!

NCTDN · 21/03/2020 14:01

That's my thought @Bubblesbubblesmybubbles

ruby2019missyou · 21/03/2020 14:02

@Lightofthephoenix not in my part of London sad the park is full of groups enjoying the sunshine and the farmers market is open as usual, with no distancing restrictions in place.

FFS!

Yep the sooner the better

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 21/03/2020 14:09

Can anyone advise what they think will happen regarding movement?

I live in a shared house of 4 tenants. I am her plus one other. One woman left two weeks ago to go to Spain, the other left yesterday to go to another part of London with her partner. They are planning on coming back in a few weeks time. Do people think it is likely this kind of movement will be allowed. I am just trying to work out where we will be regarding the house as I a supposed to be moving in two weeks!

A total lockdown isn't possible anyway, but a partial one to end casual contact might be good about now. Especially since few people seem to be taking advice.

Even my postman knocked on my door this morning to hand me a package (not signed for) that could have been left in the porch.

LastTrainEast · 21/03/2020 14:58

swimlyn that quote is correct unless you mean a total lockdown until everyone is dead or recovered and that means no food or water as someone has to produce and get them to you.

Sunshine1239 · 21/03/2020 14:58

It’ll be in next couple of days based on Italy and Spain - once infections got to about 6000 they locked down - we are on about 4200 so I expect Monday or Tuesday

willdoitinaminute · 21/03/2020 14:59

Monday at the latest.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 21/03/2020 15:00

@LastTrainEast - why is it not possible if other countries have done it?

Bringonspring · 21/03/2020 15:01

No I don’t

letsjog · 21/03/2020 16:25

I hope so because where we live everyone is out even more than normally.
Like a nation of idiots as my late DGGM would say.

Not enough people are taking it seriously and a lockdown will be the only way forward.

SapphireSalute · 21/03/2020 16:28

yes i'm sure theres more people out than usual judging by the amount of scooters and prams thundering past my window!!

Bunnylady54 · 21/03/2020 16:29

I really hope it’s sooner rather than later! It will help to cut through all the crap & we will all know where we are. I think it should already have happened.

letsjog · 21/03/2020 16:29

@LastTrainEast do you know what a lockdown involves?

Everyone is in their homes unless going out to the supermarket or pharmacy/somewhere essential.
People are usually allowed to go for a walk/walk their dog for an hour a day or so.

People have to carry permits with them outlining the reason they are heading out if stopped by authorities.
In parts of Italy you are not allowed to travel to the next province over unless it's key workers travelling to work with permits.

So yes multiple countries have done it and it's completely possible

Listen and share with those not listening!!

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 16:32

I hope not, I think it will cause a lot more problems that it solves. Gov seems to be going the way suggested above (and suggested ages ago, sigh) - rapidly escalating the testing regime to allow accurate targetting of measures.
