LOCKDOWN

Does anyone think that the whole of the UK will be put on lockdown?

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 16:33

Also, we can do without the dramatic thread title Hmm

SapphireSalute · 21/03/2020 16:44

lol one word, lockdown, which we've all heard multiple times this week is 'dramatic'??!

hardly

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 16:46

One word in BLOCK CAPITALS (see?) and without any context.

Dramatic? Extremely

ruby2019missyou · 21/03/2020 16:50

@LittleRootie Oh dear! Just scroll past if it heightens your anxiety.

MegaClutterSlut · 21/03/2020 16:52

I hope places do go into lockdown because that's what it's going to take to save lives where I am. I live in the S.E on a main road. The road is a lot busier than usual and groups of people walking around the streets just like a normal saturday. No one is listening here that they need to stay in

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 16:55

Nice post OP - is anxiety a joke then?

SapphireSalute · 21/03/2020 17:07

@LittleRootie

capitals or not, makes little difference. Get off the internet if anxiety is an issue. we can discuss LOCKDOWN which hasn't happened yet, if we like

maybe a nice fluffy site like bethune is more your thing? or one of the zillion other threads

SapphireSalute · 21/03/2020 17:10

our stats and graph is in line with Italys in the early stages, so it all looks like we will have it the same, if not worse

lockdown of all the uk is only option. but i fear it will be too late by the time this government acts.

HowIrresponsible · 21/03/2020 17:12

But I strongly suspect it will happen in London within the next week.

No need. Londoners have done what they're told and the city is largely empty.

We have the highest number of cases and we listened.

People around the rest of the country possibly believe they're immune

Justjoinedforthis · 21/03/2020 17:15

Johnson is a libertarian so I predict he won't, unless really strong-armed into in. My one silver lining in all this is that he waited so long to be PM and now having to deal with this!

cologne4711 · 21/03/2020 17:16

No one is listening here that they need to stay in

because they don't need to stay in, they need to keep their distance from non-members of their household. Not the same.

(and yes, I know some groups are not just members of the same family)

Those going on about a lockdown don't understand exactly what it is. Do you really want to be under house arrest for weeks months on end?

ssd · 21/03/2020 17:17

Yes and I think it'll be announced tomorrow at 5 and we'll get 24 hrs notice

fedup21 · 21/03/2020 17:18

What exactly do you mean by lockdown?

Schools will be opening on Monday for many members of staff to come in to look after loads of children. Will that stop?

ruby2019missyou · 21/03/2020 17:19

@LittleRootie Did I say anxiety was a joke? No I did not, but my use of caps and the subject title seem to have set you off so off you pop as per SaphireSalute's advice.

In other countries they had a lock down and then closed pubs, cafes etc.

We've already closed them so other than shopping there's little to do if you go out. Many non-essential shops are closing of their own volition. A complete lock down may well not be needed, and the risks of catching it outside in the open are low. We've had rubbish weather for weeks, it's not surprising people went out today when it was nice.

And it may also be that the UK is listening to those concerned about domestic violence. As I've said more than once, there needs to be a balance of many different threats to society. Also the fewer people around, the less safe the streets are for those who do need to go out from a personal safety perspective.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 21/03/2020 17:19

It's a beautiful day, let's see what happens tonight with few pubs open etc...

HouseElfy · 21/03/2020 17:20

No need. Londoners have done what they're told and the city is largely empty.

I don't know where you are in London but this is bollocks. My area of SE London is heaving. My friend tried to walk her dog in Victoria Park earlier and it was also heaving.

LillianGish · 21/03/2020 17:21

We'd be far better IMO to follow the example of South Korea who have managed to control the virus with testing, testing and testing. It's too late for that - the UK didn't even test people flying back home from infected regions. I think there might be a reluctant lockdown once the crisis escalates to Italian proportions - by which time it will be too late. I think the Government has spectacularly mishandled this crisis - Boris has been too scared to show real leadership because he hasn't got a clue which way to jump. The British public have taken their lead from him, kept calm and carried on - when carrying on was the last thing they should have been doing. There has been a desire to avoid scaremongering when scaremongering is exactly what is required.

ssd · 21/03/2020 17:22

The city centre here is dead, trains very very quiet. I do think people are listening. Don't know about the rest of the country though.

Loly365 · 21/03/2020 17:23

The UK should restrict unnecessary travel between towns and cities. Travel permitted should only be for work or emergencies. Public gatherings should also be discouraged.

the paperwork has gone out to essential services so they are planning for it. And we live close to an army area; lots of soldiers in white minibuses buzzing around.

Bouncingbomb · 21/03/2020 17:27

I hope so, I am isolating anyway (vulnerable group) but apparently the centre of my local town was heaving earlier, shops, market etc., etc..

The sooner we stop it the sooner we get back to normal. People aren't taking it seriously enough imo.

Park opposite where I live was full of teenage lads earlier. I know they are bored and its boring but better that than ill.

halcyondays · 21/03/2020 17:28

Yes, everyone we’ve spoken to thinks it’s inevitable. The sooner the better.

Bouncingbomb · 21/03/2020 17:29

People are leaving for their holiday homes too, just like in Italy. Southwold is apparently really busy (second homes) but Aldeburgh (retiree town) is very quiet.

Lessons from Italy do not seem to be being heard.

Sopissedofwithmyson · 21/03/2020 17:30

Everyone is just carrying on as normal here, can’t quite believe it
