Does anyone think that the whole of the UK will be put on lockdown?

Those of us who are self-isolating can't get any shopping. At all. We've chosen to be very frugal with the food we have and stay in, but we can't do so forever. From the views out of my window and from reports in the local FB group it seems most people around here view social distancing as making no changes whatsoever, except to swap school for the seaside or play dates and pub for house-parties.
They need to enforce at least some kind of minimal rules somehow.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/03/2020 09:23

Enforced lockdown would be welcome for me at this point. I CANNOT work from home, but I need to work or there will be no money to pay the bills. As I'm not a key worker I'm having to ask family and friends to look after DS next week while I work. Hardly an ideal situation.

dorapicasso · 22/03/2020 09:24

The issue is that although there are people who can be identified as vulnerable there are others who may not be identified as vulnerable who may become seriously ill. I have a friend who has no underlying health conditions and is fit and active who became so ill she had to be ventilated in ICU.

The myth that this only affects the elderly and vulnerable is what is leading to meet ups in parks, in gardens, parties etc. As long as the vulnerable are kept indoors we can carry on as normal.

It isn't correct and it's selfish. Which is why we need a lockdown.

Sorry folks, lock down won't work unless this is stopped...

I am thinking of that 19? 21? year old football coach who died of CV and then it was discovered he has underlying leukemia.

He wouldn't have known how very vulnerable he was. And so very young. Absolutely tragic.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/03/2020 20:25

It's now been said the youngest victim was 18. No mention of "underlying conditions" yet.

Lovemusic33 · 22/03/2020 20:31

Starbucks he did have underlying conditions (that’s what they said on bbc news).

Alsohuman · 22/03/2020 22:25

Oldest and youngest deaths today, they both had underlying health issues.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/03/2020 23:47

The problem with "underlying conditions" is that it could be anything. Something like cancer or cystic fibrosis or it could be asthma or diabetes which might be very well controlled and not limit the way anyone lives at all, under normal circumstances.

It's just tragic nonetheless.

NCTDN · 23/03/2020 20:41

So is this lockdown?

dorapicasso · 23/03/2020 20:46

@NCTDN is that a serious question? Did you hear what is required?

NCTDN · 23/03/2020 20:55

No need for that! Genuine question whilst I'm watching the news - But is this classed as lockdown?

NCTDN · 23/03/2020 20:56

But it's being answered now anyway. Could go further like Spain if needed.

ruby2019missyou · 23/03/2020 22:21

@NCTDN Not full lockdown
