LOCKDOWN

Does anyone think that the whole of the UK will be put on lockdown?

OP posts:
Toomboom · 21/03/2020 18:26

Yes, sooner rather than later. Within the next week is my guess

nicenewdusters · 21/03/2020 18:28

Yes, and hopefully very soon. My faith in human nature is vanishing by the day.

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 18:31

Absolutely - what will happen to all the hundreds of thousands of dogs? They can't just be kept in indefinitely. Nor can children. Nor can most adults - I know I will quickly become very ill with depression if I can't get out and walk and so will many others.

What about the spiral in domestic violence? Violence against children when families are couped up? Rage against neighbours? Civil disobedience?

PollyPocketLucyLocket · 21/03/2020 18:33

Imagine being stuck in a flat with kids for 3 months and not being allowed out for a walk. There would be huge physical and mental health consequences.

Exactly the situation I'll be in. If people would stop taking the piss, than it wouldn't have to come to that.
Playground that I can see from here is packed today though, and everyone seems to think they're the exception.
I'd like to still be able to take my kids for a walk somewhere now and again. It's going to be taken away for those of us adhering to the rules though, because some else's precious child wanted to play on the swings.

LunaLula83 · 21/03/2020 18:33

Nope because out government is weak

GabsAlot · 21/03/2020 18:33

it will never happen with immdediate effect its not viable

my dh works in london says its very quiet leicester square was dead lat night even though the pubs were still open

it seems suburbs arent listening not city people

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 18:33

People can exercise in their living rooms through - just walk on the spot.

LittleRootie · 21/03/2020 18:35

Playground that I can see from here is packed today though, and everyone seems to think they're the exception.

They should put signs on all playgrounds and lock any gates so there's no excuse for anyone not to know.

missclimpson · 21/03/2020 18:37

As everything seems to be a week behind France then I would say Tuesday at a rough guess.

doubleshotespresso · 21/03/2020 18:39

The irony of families in Blackheath, South East London all packed playing in the sunshine on the very Heath where the dead from the plague are buried was not lost on me.

Other parents are actually trying to arrange playdates for next week and offering childminding services. Stupidity in the extreme .

I honestly think they'll let us have Mother's Day weekend and put London on lockdown on Monday. I really hope they do as people in south London do not seem to get the message at all.

LittleLittleLittle · 21/03/2020 18:45

@cologne4711 how do essential workers and carers get around if there is a lockdown? Unlike a cities in a lot of countries people in London travel longer distances to work. Plus lots of carers provide informal care for relations and partners so aren't on any register.

@StrawberryBlondeStar agree.

Straycatstrut · 21/03/2020 18:46

Took my springer for a walk this morning and hoards of golfers about in groups of 3 and 4. Whole families out on a walk. I desperately want to keep people safe and get back to normality ASAP these people are infuriating.

StormyClouds · 21/03/2020 18:47

I think what we have to realise as well is that a lot of the health unions and more vocal employees who are making apocalyptic proclamations about the system collapsing and patients being left dying in the street have an ideological interest in making these predictions.

I believe wholeheartedly that there is a small minority who would love these predictions to come true so they can blame 'tory cuts' or 'privatisation'. And I say that as someone who is not a tory voter.

Buggedandconfused · 21/03/2020 18:47

Yes. The government have been closing things down gradually to not create mass hysteria. Lockdown is the next step.

HouseElfy · 21/03/2020 18:47

What about the spiral in domestic violence? Violence against children when families are couped up? Rage against neighbours? Civil disobedience?

Well I'm sorry but what other choice is there? How else do you think it is possible to mitigate the spread?

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 18:49

People in abusive situations should leave now when they still have the chance.

Crawley65 · 21/03/2020 18:50

Our local FB page shows my seaside town had huge crowds sat drinking and eating from a takeaway hut. They were all lined up along the sea wall. I don’t understand it.

Fine go and get fresh air but keep your distance.

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/03/2020 18:50

Seems that Brighton and Hove were busy today. People simply don’t get it. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-51988877

House Some will consider your response extremely flippant

LillianGish · 21/03/2020 18:51

@Allaboardthemagicbus2020 - I think people are far more likely to respond if you tell them what to do rather than leaving it open to interpretation. I'm living in France where you can't leave the house without an authorisation. It's a bit weird to start with, but it very soon becomes the new normal and everyone knows where they stand. The problem in the UK is some people are being sensible and following social distancing recommendations while others don't think it applies to them and don't think they need to change their behaviour because it hasn't been laid down in law.

Angryrant55 · 21/03/2020 18:52

Neighbours care for the elderly - carers are being told to make sure the person neighbours can help them.

Essential workers with pt are going to be told to move into work or transfer somewhere nearer.

middleager · 21/03/2020 18:52

I wish we would go into lockdown.

I'm re-watching Blitz Street. During the first 4 months of bombing, 22,000 died.
The Govt had predicted 2 million.

The reason numbers were far lower was because of the shelters and effective control. Anderson shelters in gardens, tunnels under the street, Tube stations.

This country is effectively letting people walk around during air raids. I'd love to see people going into the shelters but they're too selfish or uninformed, so it's time to put the Air Raid sirens on.

Only we have to stay down.
Enough war anaolgies now Grin

HouseElfy · 21/03/2020 18:53

I live in a small flat with no garden and a 4 year old. My mental health is already terrible. Believe me if we go into lockdown I will be badly affected.

But there is literally no other choice. What is your solution?

Rosehip10 · 21/03/2020 18:53

@StormyClouds Grow Up. Have you not seen the doctors on TV in Italy who are broken and warning other countries to not make the same mistakes?

And yes, previous lack of resourcing of the health service will cost lives in this situation.

Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 21/03/2020 18:54

@Lynda07

That's very good!
