Does anyone think that the whole of the UK will be put on lockdown?

I believe we are definately heading for lockdown. Too many people not listening. My DM headed away on friday for the weekend in a holiday park. Friday night hours after arriving I get a text saying they are coming home as everything shut because 'the young ones wont stay in'

See the irony? Nope she didnt Hmm

LillianGish · 21/03/2020 20:43

Utter madness, a lockdown will be the only way to stop people. A nationwide lockdown is the only way to make people realise that the restrictions apply to EVERYONE.

GrumpiestOldWoman · 21/03/2020 20:43

totally disregarding that there is insufficient services, including healthcare...

I don't understand this, surely they realise that their own outcome is likely to be worse if they get covid19 in an area without the healthcare infrastructure?

Hippopotas · 21/03/2020 20:48

So long as I can still go to work, the pharmacy and for a run I’m ok.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 21/03/2020 20:49

I hope they do a lockdown. My youngest lad lives in England and I was delighted that he finally started to take it seriously. Bought in more than one days worth of food, working from home, decided to stop socialising, goes for a run to keep his body and mind healthy....then goes to get his fucking hair cut!! My jaw hit the floor when he said he was going. He knows how bad this can get as a 22 yr old friend was very very ill with it, but he refuses “to go weeks without a hair cut”! Dear Gaia! His vanity could kill him.

WingBingo · 21/03/2020 20:51

I drove through Torquay town centre today and there were a lot of people still about.

They are selfish or ignorant. Not sure which.

GabsAlot · 21/03/2020 21:07

it wont just be london that wont work they will just move out to the home counties or wherever and spread it

LillianGish · 21/03/2020 21:11

What is required is a lockdown of the whole country and a ban on travel - Britain needs to learn from Italy’s mistakes.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 21/03/2020 21:13

Agree they don't want to treat London differently and incentivise people to leave, as in Italy that just brought the virus to the country.

That's why the ban on cafes and restaurants had to be nationwide.

This is why we need a proper lockdown.

Schools will be open but teachers will work from home

So who's going to care for the children?Hmm

LynetteScavo · 21/03/2020 21:45

@NCTDN skeleton staff.

Next week all school staff will be in. During a lock down it will be the minimum staff in a rota. Some teachers and some TAs to provide first aid if necessary.

LynetteScavo · 21/03/2020 21:50

My money is on 1 member of SLT and TAs on weekdays and Teachers and 1 TA during holidays/weekends.

NCTDN · 21/03/2020 22:01

No, teachers are expected in to care for the key worker children alongside TAS.

NCTDN · 21/03/2020 22:02

Plus our SLT is only 3 and one is off sick.

LynetteScavo · 21/03/2020 22:18

I guess it depends on how many DC schools have in. I know someone who will have an almost full class, and someone else who has only one child in their class who qualifies but they won't be in school. Some schools are going to have far more DC than others.

ruby2019missyou · 21/03/2020 22:39

Most of the people working now are the key workers so in terms of transmission a lockdown won’t make a huge difference as these people will still be out mixing all day

Nonsense. Most people working now are non-key workers whose employers are too dumb to close shop. We need a lockdown so those with no common sense will have the decision taken out of their hands.

I hope so. My dh is still going to work (builders merchant) me and our 4 dc are at home. Doesn't look like his work will close anytime soon. They have had one of the busiest weeks in months.

MrsTumbletap · 21/03/2020 22:48

I have friends telling me they are keyworkers and they are sending their kids to school.

One is an accountant, one is a builder, one works in a pet shop.

They all have childcare options too and could leave their children with partners. The partners don't want to look after the kids so they are sending them to school.

If you are not VITAL to helping reduce the virus stay at home with your kids, DONT send them to school, you are as selfish as the panic buyers!!!!

It's making me cross now.

Bouncingbomb · 21/03/2020 22:51

I know someone like that Mrs. She is wfh part time but her partner is a key worker and the kids are going to school.

Glaceon · 21/03/2020 22:56

Yes and the sooner the better. People arent listening here.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/03/2020 23:08

Yes, hopefully by the end of the week. Preferably sooner. Also childcare for key workers needs to be changed to both parents must be key workers, and they must be working at the same time, of they can work their shifts around each other, then they don't need childcare. I know a couple who are both police officers who manage this the rest of the year and onky require very minimal childcare. People just don't want any disruption to their usual routines but tough shit.

LillianGish · 21/03/2020 23:14

We need a lockdown so those with no common sense will have the decision taken out of their hands. In a nutshell.

Well, if their head is allowing that to happen, they sound incompetent.
