People still out and about at hairdressers etc

Today I have seen a neighbour returning from the shops with about 5 clothes bags. A hairdressers over the road with loads of people in having their hair and nails done. And the pub up the road was still open with about 50 punters in tonight.

AIBU to wonder why they think they are immune to catching the virus with a 20% chance of ending up in hospital?

Meanwhile my dd is a doctor who is putting her life on the line to treat these selfish idiots when they inevitably get ill.

Unfortunately despite all the warnings some people genuinely don’t believe it’s anything to worry about for them, it’s something that happens to other people. I had a chat with my dad only last weekend and explained I couldn’t come to see him, he didn’t get it as said as long as I wasn’t ill I would be fine. However given what’s happened this last week he at least does now understand

Unfortunately there’s still people who don’t think it will ever effect them, until it does :(

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/03/2020 01:31

Until everything shuts down, people will still go shopping and to the hairdressers.

Truckman · 21/03/2020 01:31

I'm still working like usual, attending 50 customer sites a day, and everything seems largely usual in my area. Maybe just a bit quieter, but plenty of people out and about.

I can't really afford to take unpaid leave right now and my employer would probs say no anyway.

Truckman · 21/03/2020 01:36

I'm staying away from my family, but tbh part of me almost wishes I'd get it so I could then proceed with my life - atm I've no idea when I'll next see my parents.

I know that realistically speaking it would be bad if I were to pass it on to more vulnerable people, so I hope I done get it. But if I could theoretically get it and quarantine without infecting others I'd probs be ok with a week or two of feeling shit to be able to then carry on as usual.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 21/03/2020 01:36

I can see from both sides. We have a family friend who runs a small salon and her DH runs a barbers. They aren’t well off by any stretch and I can see from her Facebook page that she’s clearly panicking, but hasn’t closed.

I’ve been self isolating but DH and I have a steady income- I don’t feel I can judge people who are worrying about putting food on the table as opposed to the likes of the owner of Wetherspoons.

WTF0ver · 21/03/2020 01:39

Stupid twat through the wall is having a party as I type! Fucking annoying at the best of times but just plain selfish and stupid now.

Patch23042 · 21/03/2020 07:56

The government will have no choice but to close down shops (excluding food shops and pharmacies) and to ban gatherings, because people aren’t sensible of their own accord.

I hope they do it sooner rather than later.

Stickybeaksid · 21/03/2020 08:10

Apparently social distancing And having any responsibility or awareness of what’s going on only applies to other countries and not the residents of the U.K.

Ihateselfishbastards · 21/03/2020 08:17

People are fucking stupid and will only pay attention when a loved one dies. Then they will complain about why no one forced them to stay home.

LeniSpring · 21/03/2020 08:22

DP got his hair done at the barbers yesterday. His reasoning was that if they all shut and this goes on for months, "I'll look like a tramp by the end of it". I told him not to as he's got lung problems anyway.

Blankscreen · 21/03/2020 08:26

This is really infuriating me.

Thing is I think the message of how bad it is has been played down. All the nonsense of doing nothing for weeks other than telling people to wash their hands.

Lots of people think that it's only old Ill people that are affected and everyone has mild symptoms. Not closing schools quickly has enhanced the message that children aren't as risk -Which simply isn't true.

I still don't understand why we didn't shut the borders/enforce quarantine on returning residents and we had a chance of getting it under control.

Draconian measures were going to have to be taken why not do them sooner rather than later.we will now just end up with more ill people and a huge cost to the NHS

hopeishere · 21/03/2020 08:27

I predict lockdown by Sunday.

Hingeandbracket · 21/03/2020 08:32

There seems to be lot of traffic on the roads still. Probably all the cunts driving from shop to shop filling their cars with shopping.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 08:34

It's absolutely surreal for my family and I.

They are in a country with proper lockdown. All is calm, shops are full, you can't go outside without a mask and you can only go to work or shopping, everyone who can use sewing machine is making masks and people donate them to hospitals and places where these are needed. I am having some shipped in actuality.

In here, we have absolutely empty supermarkets, full pubs and people just giving absolutely no fucks.

I am pretty sure the economical impact is lesser in there than here...

Surreal.

okiedokieme · 21/03/2020 08:36

Would you prefer they go bust? No clients means no rent for the landlord. They are doing what they need to do to keep a roof over their heads. If you aren't comfortable with it don't go. If like me you have gel extensions you need to have them professionally removed, I'm booked in for Monday, earliest appointment I could get after the announcements last Monday

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 08:43

🤨

Blankscreen · 21/03/2020 08:44

Your nails are clearly more important to you than your respiratory system.

Are you having more fake nails put on? Or just having them removed.

madroid · 21/03/2020 08:50

There's loads of help for business now. That's no justification for non essential travel.

I honestly wouldn't blame NHS staff who resigned in the present circumstances.

Why should they risk their lives to treat selfish twunts going out to have their nails done?

Rush are offering free blow dries to NHS workers.
I’m struggling to get my head round it.

Remix · 21/03/2020 08:53

I don't agree with people not social isolating, but the government has offered no support for self employed people. So can see why lots of places are still open.

maddy68 · 21/03/2020 08:54

The government needs to go further. Complete shit down because sadly people are morons

hotcrunchybiscuit · 21/03/2020 08:55

Which part of country is this, OP?

Nirvana1979 · 21/03/2020 08:55

What are peoples thoughts on skiing.
Local ski resort just posted on SM they have sold out of day tickets. 400 people...

Frigginella · 21/03/2020 08:55

I am returning to frontline nursing and terrified. There is a high chance I will get it going off Italy’s numbers and lack of appropriate PPE. And people like this are selfish bastards. That includes DH’s parents who I’m not sure when I will be able to speak to again after their behaviour and attitude
