People still out and about at hairdressers etc

Today I have seen a neighbour returning from the shops with about 5 clothes bags. A hairdressers over the road with loads of people in having their hair and nails done. And the pub up the road was still open with about 50 punters in tonight.

AIBU to wonder why they think they are immune to catching the virus with a 20% chance of ending up in hospital?

Meanwhile my dd is a doctor who is putting her life on the line to treat these selfish idiots when they inevitably get ill.

We need a full lockdown now.

Shops, hairdressers, nail bars, etc.

I cancelled my hairdresser and but my own hair earlier in the week. Who cares about pointless shit like this? Selfish idiots with their heads in the sand.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 21/03/2020 12:29

The level of stupidity is astonishing.

I keep reading that you don't have to isolate or even distance yourself unless you are sick and showing symptoms. Shock
When people are genuinely that thick, there's no hope.

A properly imposed lock down is urgent. I feel sorry for the army and police who will have to risk their lives, again, to enforce it, but it is the only way.

Geometricprince · 21/03/2020 12:30

While I was out with the dog this morning I saw a group of about eight women running together, they stopped to cross the road and were leaning on each other to stretch, standing shoulder to shoulder to chat and one of them was coughing all over the others. Surely running is something that you can easily do on your own without any requirement to get up close to other people?!

“Fuck a duck! What is wrong with you”

Oh I do like you, Juan. First belly laugh I’ve had in a week.

nicknackpaddy · 21/03/2020 13:08

Natural selection, innit. Stupid will go first

No. Key workers will go first.

ememem84 · 21/03/2020 13:14

Actually. Looking at our guidance. Social distancing applies to the over 65’s here.

I’ve been riding. Stables were open. We had to sanitise hands and stay 1m away from everyone else. Easy to do whilst on a horse.

All cafes and restaurants here have taken steps to male more space so there’s at least 2m between tables. We are facing a lockdown. No boats or planes. No leaving the island or coming back. Lack of supplies etc. No schools. No employment for some.

Badskinday · 21/03/2020 13:17

That’s great @ememem84 if your waitress at the afternoon tea is asymptomatic with Coronavirus you have no chance of catching it when she’s serving you tea if other guests are a metre away. Likewise if you or your afternoon tea pals are asymptomatic with it there’s no way any of you will catch it and pass it on to your loved ones or the waitress who then passes it onto the chef and so on when you’re all sitting together at one table. Have a lovely time! Biscuit

Noooblerooble · 21/03/2020 13:21

Also the fact that so few people are being tested means we have no real idea of whether it’s possible or how likely it is to contract it again or to spread it after you’ve already had it. Many people will also think they’ve had it (because symptoms are mild for many) when they haven’t

That is why they are urgently developing tests to see who has actually had it. So they can give advice with confidence. It is staggeringly unlikely that we will be in a situation where most people get it then don't have some short term immunity to it.

At least one person has contracted it a second time.

Yes that's why I said most people are immune having had it once. The vast majority in fact. There will be rare cases where people do get it a second time.

It's really important at this time to stick to the facts as there are a lot of scared people out there. What scientists are saying is most people will be immune having had it once. Those people will be free to go about their lives again. They are the ones who will ultimately take us out of this situation.

This thread details some of the actual science around all this. I would urge people writing on MN to be only post what can be backed up around this virus. We don't need false info being spread around and scaring people further

Insideimsprinting · 21/03/2020 13:22

There's loads of help for business now.

Yes but it's taking time to get through, time the businesses don't have, staff get 80% of wage paid the self employed owner gets universal credit only at about 92 quidish, no where near what their wage they'll be taking, so they will be stuffed.

Im a business owner and the help available isn't coming through yet and it's not that clear either, so many unanswered questions. The busi ess owners you talk about are in utter turmoil at the moment fo their saime, their staffs sake and their businesses futures sake. This us on top of worrying about food and health.
I wish it was that simple I wish I didn't have the extra worry, Im sure they would rather just worry about the fact that they'll get 80% of their wage or sick pay but they won't its a huge kick in the balls when you realise your just not as valuable as the employed.
Sorry rant over.........

Insideimsprinting · 21/03/2020 13:25

I doubt I'll be attending my hair appointment mind but I really do worry that every cancellation just wallops her more and its awful.

Badskinday · 21/03/2020 13:30

@insideimsprinting - get a voucher then so you’re supporting them without going? Unfortunately this is going to be a bigger economic shock than the global financial crisis which shows you how serious it is that the world is walking straight into a major recession to try and save lives. We all need to do our bit.

bunchofdicks · 21/03/2020 13:31

We live on the Isle of Man and I'm getting increasingly annoyed at how many dicks there are still out and about "catching up" with friends and family at cafes, restaurants, pubs etc. I actually can't believe the stupidity?!

We are a very small island with two cases recently confirmed. I pray these losers wake up and start to keep their distance before it's too late!

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 21/03/2020 13:49

There will be rare cases where people do get it a second time.

We simply don’t have enough information yet to know how rare it will be. Also- how will people know if they are the rare one?

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 13:49

@ememem84 are you not in UK?

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 21/03/2020 13:50

I mean, is Jersey not under UK? The lockdown should be there too?

StormyClouds · 21/03/2020 13:54

There isn't a 20% chance of ending up in hospital. This misinformed scare-mongering is not helpful.

cripsysausagerolls · 21/03/2020 16:43

I don’t see the problem with going riding - it’s a pretty isolated activity, and it’s exercise. You and your horse and ages away from anyone else.

Saw LOADS of cyclists In groups today.

alloutoffucks · 21/03/2020 16:50

@StormyClouds 20% need oxygen therapy or ICU. In most countries that has been in hospital. UK are talking about doing oxygen therapy at home with 5% in ICU.

ememem84 · 21/03/2020 16:56

Nope. Jersey isn’t uk. We loosley follow thjngs. But our own government makes their own rules.

Riding is fairly isolated. I rode with a group today but you’d struggle usually to get a distance of less than 2m person to person given the size and nature of the ponies.

Plus outside. So fresh air. Exercise. And normality.

We’ve been advised to carry on as normal as much as possible. Things are closing down. We will more than likely be locked down next week. I’m working from home with two under 3 so I’ll be productive as nursery has closed. Schools are closed as of Monday.

No flights in or out unless “essential” but again who says what’s essential. There’s no monitoring at the ports. So people will still leave and come back. And essential is subjective. I won’t be leaving because although we had a holiday booked I’m not taking the kiddos to Mexico and risking getting sick or stuck there.

Rocketmam · 21/03/2020 16:57

Unfortunately it isn't really a case of natural selection.

When these dipshits getting their nails done/having a pint/just popping the shop inevitably clog up the NHS in 2-3 weeks, either with themselves or their unwitting victims, there will be a knock on effect.

Dc got appendicitis? Meningitis? Fell on a rusty nail?

Ddad had a heart attack?

Dsis found a breast lump?

These dumb fucks don't realise that they have already ensured the unecessary deaths of many, not even necessarily from CV19. It's too late to stop that now.

In 2-3 weeks we will be at Italy's numbers, with a much poorer health service.

(No shade meant on brave NHS workers, but it was already collapsing BEFORE CV19).

quicknamechangearoonie · 21/03/2020 17:03

Some of the independent nail technicians around these parts have been selling "removal kits" because they've made the difficult decision to close and don't want their clients attempting to removal gels via other methods.
They've then posted step by step instructions on their fb pages and from the pictures they've been posting, it seems to be fairly successful.

You've got to improve and adapt to the situation as best you can.

BelleharePenguin09 · 21/03/2020 17:04

Re. good shopping:

Far too many people are really moronic, I’m afraid. They have no consideration for others - even for the most vulnerable.

Someone on another site I use suggested a return to hand baskets at ALL food shops. These people need to be stopped.

HeIenaDove · 21/03/2020 17:08

Re. hand baskets. Not thinking of disabled people yet again

Quelle surprise.

lottieloop · 21/03/2020 17:08

@okiedokieme

. If like me you have gel extensions you need to have them professionally removed, I'm booked in for Monday, earliest appointment I could get after the announcements last Monday

FUCKING REALLY /\

I've been sat thinking about all you hardcore nail enthusiasts today as I'm in the process of telling one of you nail enthusiasts (family member) to stay the fuck away from my house ( as I'm classed as vulnerable with severe respiratory disorder) - as she will be the same as you attending your 'urgent' appointment to get your nails done. So selfish, unnecessary & self absorbed! No body could actually really give a flying fuck about your nails, we've all been advised to avoid any unnecessary contact & here you are on here talking like it was some emergency.

Shame on you. It will be people like you that make me seriously fucking ill & bring the NHS to its knees 👊🏻

HowIrresponsible · 21/03/2020 17:10

I went for a job around the park this morning when it was nice and empty. Then I went to grab a takeaway coffee whilst the place was empty and headed home

As I walked back around the edge of the park, there were a group of men playing contact rugby.

Fuck sake
