Why is the Queen so quiet?

I wish she would say something, even a ten minute video urging the nation to pull together and do what we need to do in these challenging times.

I imagine it would be a boost for older people stuck at home, I know my MIL would appreciate it. She loves the Queen.

I’m not a fan of the Royals at all. I never watch any of the Queens speech’s or royal weddings etc but I do think it would be good for a lot of the older generation if she said something. Lots of elderly people are very much fans of the Queen and if she came on TV to reiterate that over 70’s should stay at home then it might help. A lot of them are still not taking it seriously and going about their normal business. I suspect many more of them might actually take heed if the message came for the Queen and not Boris.

Hmm
Cockola · 19/03/2020 09:25

Because at a minimum she would need to be around camera people, lighting people etc etc

I imagine nobody is allowed near her at the moment

VoleClock · 19/03/2020 09:26

Thanks everybody, this thread has had me laughing out loud this morning. (better than wondering if i will have an income next week).

The80sweregreat · 19/03/2020 09:28

The oldies would listen to her.
She should do this , but probs at lockdown time.
She is only human and probably devastated but her family will be ok and many families won't! Giving some of their wealth away would be good but not holding my breath.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 19/03/2020 09:28

She barricaded in at Windsor with the Coldstream Guards ready to repel all toilet roll theives.

I agree with this. And surely she doesnt need Boris to suggest it to her. Hes got other things to do. She could suggest it to him. Wills did a broadcast. She doesnt need loads of people in there. If shes our Head of State she should be doing some leading. If she and her family are there just desperately clinging onto power for their own sake they need to go.

Prince William made an appeal yesterday posted on instagram for the National Emergency Trust that is aiming to raise money to support charities and community groups dealing with the virus

Always makes me lol when I see a royal asking us to donate money to charity. How much of your vast wealth will you be donating from your safe palace with acres of grounds and access to the finest food and health care, pandemic or not?

QuimJongUn · 19/03/2020 09:31

The oldies

You might like to try and be a bit more patronising, not sure you managed the full 100% there.

bemoreeverything · 19/03/2020 09:32

The agism on this thread is staggering.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 09:33

I’m Hmm at anyone who says the oldies they’re not another species.

The80sweregreat · 19/03/2020 09:35

Sorry ; I'm an 'oldie ' myself and refer to myself as such! I didn't mean to offend anyone! I just think a few of our older men and women might listen to her that's all!
Sorry.
Lots of people are not listening though.
As the mumsnet threads are hi lighting and my own thought was denial at first ( last week) but not now.
I'm sorry

YourVagesty · 19/03/2020 09:37

I said this on the morning of the Brexit referendum result. If there was a point to the monarchy, she would've spoken then. To reassure the nation or whatnot. But no.

Wannabangbang · 19/03/2020 09:38

I actually think a queen's speech would be excellent at keeping the over 70s in isolation at the moment they are clearly ignoring advice blindy. They are more likely to listen to the queen than some middle aged bloke in a blonde wig who keeps getting things wrong

SoloD · 19/03/2020 09:42

Breixt demonstrated how unfit for purpose the Monarchy is.

I want to hear from experts like Chris Whitty, not pointless people who only got the gig because of who their parents were.

FinallyHere · 19/03/2020 09:43

One example of what such a speech could be:

WhatHappenedThen · 19/03/2020 09:43

I think she and the rest of her family should keep quiet. They are irrelevant and have nothing to add to society except their vast wealth which they don’t seem to want to share in any meaningful way. They are selfish hypocrites who have no self awareness whatsoever.

I’d be embarrassed to behave like they do.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 09:43

SoloD me too

johnwayneisbigleggy · 19/03/2020 09:45

Because she's a pampered, pointless, publicly funded waste of space?

^^ This

PeterPanGoesWrong · 19/03/2020 09:46

Thinking logically for a moment, having a crew of cameramen, sound guys, a director etc all trooping through the home of a couple in their 90’s really isn’t a good idea.
Be prepared for a selfie video, filmed in portrait because that’s what people do!

johnwayneisbigleggy · 19/03/2020 09:47

She's 'leaving London to 'stay safe' isn't she?, according to news reports that I saw yesterday. I'm pretty sure that she's already wrapped in layers of bubble wrap and hand sanitizer and won't see anyone who isn't exactly the same anyway so what a waste of time and public money 🙄

NanSlayer · 19/03/2020 09:49

The degenerate Queen is in hiding with her favourite son

QuimJongUn · 19/03/2020 09:50

@johnwayneisbigleggy I hope none of the armies of staff she's taking with her are infected but asymptomatic, and end up spreading it in areas which are up to now infection-free.

Rosebel · 19/03/2020 09:50

What good is the Queen making a statement going to do? Listening to her drone on while she has no idea how hard it is would piss me off.

sprayandwipealot · 19/03/2020 09:52

I've been wondering the same thing for a week.
