Why is the Queen so quiet?

I wish she would say something, even a ten minute video urging the nation to pull together and do what we need to do in these challenging times.

I imagine it would be a boost for older people stuck at home, I know my MIL would appreciate it. She loves the Queen.

The only way my 'oldies' would be encouraged to stay in by the Queen's Telly Message was if watching it was the punishment for going out.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 19/03/2020 09:55

If the Queen addressed the nation I know my otherwise stubborn MIL would start taking this seriously.

That said, apparently Philip has died for the god knows how many time this year, so maybe she's waiting to see if he regenerates again before doing anything. Wink

rwalker · 19/03/2020 09:59

I think if we go into lockdown she will .

bemoreeverything · 19/03/2020 10:03

I think if we go into lockdown she will .

You think of the country locks down they will actively bring out the Queen. Think about all the people that would be involved in that and ask yourself how the fuck it could be actioned if we are locking down Confused

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 19/03/2020 10:04

This comment won the thread for me:
Because she's a pampered, pointless, publicly funded waste of space?

housepicturesqueclub · 19/03/2020 10:05

She's damned if she does, damned if she don't
Probably difficult with a persistent cough.

LellyMcKelly · 19/03/2020 10:05

I really couldn’t give a shiny shite about the queen. A ‘gee up’ message from her throne of golden toilet paper would be, quite frankly, ridiculous and I suspect she knows that. What on earth would she say that would be in any way useful? ‘Rah rah rah and scones on the lawn by August?’

SumOfTheSquares · 19/03/2020 10:05

The Queen hasn’t appeared because not much is official yet.......
We can still go about our business if we choose to.
I think she’ll make an appearance when the lockdowns start.

GADDay · 19/03/2020 10:06

Probably because she is a gazillion years old and doesn't have much to add???

SumOfTheSquares · 19/03/2020 10:07

And I bet her broadcast has already been recorded.

minipie · 19/03/2020 10:10

Maybe she’s already ill and they aren’t telling us because it would have such a bad effect on morale.

Or because it wouldn’t go down to well having a squillionaire with several houses and 100s of acres of land to hang out in, telling us all to buck up.

minipie · 19/03/2020 10:10

*too

Why is she quiet?

Because she's not suffering at all. A spoilt pampered woman who has never done a proper day's work in her life.
She cannot empathize with us because she has no empathy.

I'm glad she's quiet - she has nothing useful to add.

ChicCroissant · 19/03/2020 10:19

She is still receiving visitors though - she's met with two naval officers yesterday. The only person she's not met face to face is Boris, who had to conduct his usual meeting with the Queen via telephone. I'll make no further comments on that one Grin

feelingverylazytoday · 19/03/2020 10:20

I think she should, it would mean a lot to some people. As long as it was worded right, of course.
The very least she (or one of her representatives) should do is thank all the public service workers (especially the NHS) who will be working their arses off at considerable risk to themselves. I think not saying anything would be massively rude and ungrateful.
Of course a lot of people don't support the monarchy (I certainly don't), those people can just ignore it and allow other people to take from it whatever they can.

Dreamprincess · 19/03/2020 10:26

What a miserable lot you are! So many nasty, spiteful comments about a lady who has done you no harm but, as a fellow human being, is having an abysmal year: what with one son being accused of cavorting with under age girls, a grandson going to live abroad without allowing her a farewell cuddle with her newest great grandson and a sickly husband who apparently keeps dying (according to twitter). Give the woman a break, you coven.

If you can't keep your poisonous opinions to yourselves, I agree with John Betjeman (paraphrased)

Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough! Mumsnet
It isn't fit for humans now …..

Waspnest · 19/03/2020 10:28

Privileged old bag.

If you're as nasty as this in real life we really are going to hell in a handcart (and probably deserve to).

I know a lot of us on here go on about MN not being so good as in the olden days but honestly the vitriol on here is getting awful.

Blewbell · 19/03/2020 10:28

I reckon they are saving her for when it all goes tits up properly.

Waspnest · 19/03/2020 10:32

Yes Dreamprincess I agree, it's as if people are scared and just lashing out at anything and everything and it's not helping.

MyTwoPence · 19/03/2020 10:34

@Lynda07 no you're absolutely right. I mean, having someone to break your shoes in is just a basic human right. Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 10:35

I think this could be the impetus for them to step down. What privilege when the world will be in a different place.

Sparklingplasters · 19/03/2020 10:36

Timor has it that Prince Philip has died

clairethewitch70 · 19/03/2020 10:36

My friend has a top source in the foreign office who told her that Prince Phillip has died. (For the third time this year). I suppose he will be right at some point if he says it enough times Grin

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/03/2020 10:38

The Prince Phillip is dead rumour is like a stopped clock. One of these days it will be right.
