Why is the Queen so quiet?

I wish she would say something, even a ten minute video urging the nation to pull together and do what we need to do in these challenging times.

I imagine it would be a boost for older people stuck at home, I know my MIL would appreciate it. She loves the Queen.

Unshriven

Because she's a pampered, pointless, publicly funded waste of space?

You have the boldness to write such high treason?
Off with your head!!

(Having a laugh Grin)

YourVagesty · 19/03/2020 15:40

The press have confirmed that Prince Phillip isn't dead.

Wannabangbang · 19/03/2020 15:42

Quite disappointed if im honest, i know she needs to escape what with her age etc but no speech what a poor show and I'm into the royals

Iamthewombat · 19/03/2020 15:58

The press have confirmed that Prince Phillip isn't dead.

Again!

mausmausmaus · 19/03/2020 16:01

she's hardly a normal 80+ old woman, she's the queen of the UK and has been for some time. that's like saying cher is a normal 70+ woman. you don't be cher or the queen for ages and still be normal.

(sorry, trying to be light-hearted x)

Noodlenosefraggle · 19/03/2020 16:24

If she's supposed to be self-isolating due to age, would she want half a dozen TV people in the room with her?
I doubt the Royals' legion of staff have been sent home to self isolate and the Royals are now having to dress themselves and serve their own meals. They are surrounded by people all the time who come and go from the Palace. They could have someone record a message. If they arent going to boost peoples morale at a difficult time, what is the point of them?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 19/03/2020 16:34

She's just issued a statement

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/03/2020 16:35

There you go. She’s issued a statement.

SapphosRock · 19/03/2020 16:38

Okay she's made a statement! Maybe she saw this thread Grin

Still think it's strange she hasn't televised it. It would be easy enough to arrange that safely.

OP posts:
FlamingoAndJohn · 19/03/2020 16:39

Someone could have used their phone if nothing else.

Perhaps Skyping the BBC.

Although seeing Bob Geldof on there this morning perhaps not.

Starbuck8419 · 19/03/2020 16:40

She’s dead that’s why. The corgis have been feasting!

cheezy · 19/03/2020 16:41

She’s released a statement!

slartibarti · 19/03/2020 16:55

Perhaps Kate saw it while mumsneting and told her the natives were getting restless.

Dreamprincess · 19/03/2020 16:59

Well there we are. Off you go and turn your spite onto someone else, you pathetic bunch.

Mamamia456 · 19/03/2020 17:05

OP - Do you not realise how risky that would be for her to televise it.

SunshineCake · 19/03/2020 17:05

If she had there would be sneering people saying it's alright for her, she's patronising us, shut up.

MrsMGE · 19/03/2020 17:11

Off you go and turn your spite onto someone else, you pathetic bunch.

Holding a public figure in a position of trust and funded by us accountable if they're shit at their job is not being spiteful.

QuimJongUn · 19/03/2020 17:11

@Dreamprincess I wasn't being 'spiteful' because she hadn't addressed the nation. In fact, I wasn't being spiteful at all. Merely sickened by the inequality in this country which is highlighted starkly by the current situation.

NeckPainChairSearch · 19/03/2020 17:14

Well there we are. Off you go and turn your spite onto someone else, you pathetic bunch

Spiteful? Really? Grin

user1497787065 · 19/03/2020 17:21

Maybe because she is 93 and her husband is 98. Would it really be a food
Idea to surround her with cameramen and sound engineers?

LuluJakey1 · 19/03/2020 17:31

Well I hope she and Philip enjoy their time together at Windsor. She has done a fantastic job as Queen - given the restrictions of the role. She has given over her life to it when she could have taken her personal fortune and buggered off to a big country house and bred horses and dogs and had none of the faff of being Queen. She deserves this time with her husband - who she has not seen for weeks.

Dreamprincess · 19/03/2020 17:57

LuluJakey1

Thank you Lulu. The voice of sanity at last. May they enjoy a few months of well earned rest

@ForeverbyJudyBlume writes:
Oh, the irony of comments like this! How nasty and unempathetic must you be to write something like this?So much for the fantasy that we're all pulling together and will somehow come out of this crisis better and kinder. So many people are showing themselves to be disgusting.

Why am I unempathetic? I bet she's not enjoying this situation, but she has vast wealth, power and resources at her disposal and won't do a fucking jot except put out a statement.
She's only lived in palaces and castles. She knows nothing of this world. She has hundreds of spare bedrooms, and her 'subjects' sleep outside on the streets.

And I GUARANTEE you that if she caught the virus and needed an intensive care bed and ventilator, she would be in the front of the queue above everyone, you, me and even a sick young mother.
She'd never sacrifice herself for a commoner.
That's what's sick in society.

1forsorrow · 19/03/2020 18:21

Blimey, so did thousands of others who then lived lives of hard bloody privation and work. It is irrelevant what others did, people were saying she's never done a days work in her life, has been pampered all her life. That isn't true and yes plenty might have done it but plenty didn't and she didn't have to but she did. Her family didn't have to stay in London during the bombing but they did. She's 93, she might be sick for all you know.
