Why is the Queen so quiet?

I wish she would say something, even a ten minute video urging the nation to pull together and do what we need to do in these challenging times.

I imagine it would be a boost for older people stuck at home, I know my MIL would appreciate it. She loves the Queen.

Because Prince Philip has died and if she makes a speech they would need to announce that first but dont want crowds to gather at Buckingham palace. Though it was odd that news reports only mentioned the queen being in quarantine, no mention of Philip.

SapphosRock · 19/03/2020 08:39

this isolated older person doesn't give a flying one for the queen and doesn't need her to exude fake concern and sympathy.

Nobody would force you to watch it. Just because you personally don't like the Queen doesn't meant there aren't millions of other royalists in the country. She lived through the war so has an understanding of living in a country in crisis. I know plenty of people who look up to her.

“ A sensible, stoical address from her might finally get some of the older people to bloody listen!“

This is actually a great point @FlamingoAndJohn

hazyjinty01 · 19/03/2020 08:39

Be Kind ha so most people don't think this applies to the Queen?

Silvercatowner · 19/03/2020 08:40

If she's supposed to be self-isolating due to age, would she want half a dozen TV people in the room with her?

She could do what the rest of us are doing, using a tripod and sitting in front of an iPhone. It's easy to upload to Youtube - I'm sure she has a royal account.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 19/03/2020 08:43

Shes got a chusty life and so do her kids. Why should she care about the peasants

MasakaBuzz · 19/03/2020 08:43

She is 90+. She is probably trying to get her head round all of this. How many 90+ year olds would? She is coping with the loss of her Great Grandchild, the fact her husband is going to die shortly, as is she.

The Covid19 might not finish her off, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the shock doesn’t.

Give the women a break.......

scarbados · 19/03/2020 08:48

So why not start by saying you think it would give a boost to he royalists of all ages instead of assuming all us older people give a damn about her and her overprivileged family? She may have lived through the war but she was still cossetted and hasn't a clue how the rest of us live.

KenAdams · 19/03/2020 08:48

@Italianmoma1983 you said that as if it were fact. What's your source?

I think they're saving her for lockdown to raise the spirits of the nation or something.

SapphosRock · 19/03/2020 08:48

It's ten minutes on camera which can easily be filmed from 2 metres. She's managed to keep other with plenty of other engagements.

Someone can write the speech for her, she just has to say it.

Come on your Majesty, pull your finger out.

Have I missed something?

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 08:50

Sappho it lives on surfaces all those crew touching stuff

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 08:51

I’m not in the age group but find the idea that everyone who is would like it patronising

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/03/2020 08:51

Well said Selmababies.

ritatherockfairy · 19/03/2020 08:52

Was wondering about this myself - but hadn't thought about the Philip possibility. If she's not in a position to do it, then let's roll Charles out. He may speak to a broader audience - not just the wartime generation. In any event, it is surprising that we haven't heard from our Head of State.

CherryPavlova · 19/03/2020 08:55

She’s a 94 year old who despite having lived through the war will not have seen anything like this previously. She’ll probably never see her husband of over 70 years again. That must feel very sad - even if you are the queen.

She’s in isolation (albeit comfortable isolation), having camera crews turn up is probably not a good idea.

Probably better to have WHO live stream about the global situation than the queen handing out platitudes.

Prince William made an appeal yesterday posted on instagram for the National Emergency Trust that is aiming to raise money to support charities and community groups dealing with the virus

Lynda07 · 19/03/2020 09:00

I've just watched Prince William talking on TV. The elderly queen delegates these days, that's a good thing and the prince spoke very well. He used to fly a rescue helicopter so understands how important emergency services are, also has a young family who, yes, live in lovely surroundings but the elder two were going to school, mixing with others, until a couple of days ago and he can empathise with other families.

mummmy2017 · 19/03/2020 09:02

The second The Queen broadcast this message the outcry would outweigh the feel good factors.
Lots of people are nasty.

HoffiCoffi13 · 19/03/2020 09:05

Yes, my 87 year old grandmother who has just lost her husband and now has to deal with not seeing any of her children/grandchildren/great grandchildren for months on end would feel so much better about the situation if only a woman she’d never met would give her a 5 minute speech on the TV Hmm

HermioneWeasley · 19/03/2020 09:09

Because she’s always had the PR instincts of a box of hair.

She has no empathy and has to be forced to address her country at times of National need. This whole situation shows how utterly pointless she and the monarchy are.

percheron67 · 19/03/2020 09:12

Shriven. What a spiteful comment! I am sure the Queen will give a "rallying" message when the time is deemed to be right.

BirdandSparrow · 19/03/2020 09:14

She is far from pampered. haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Oh thanks, I'm struggling under lockdown in Spain. That gave me a good belly laugh.

Wheresthebeach · 19/03/2020 09:21

I've heard the Prince Phillip rumour too...admittedly it's not the first time, and at 96 (I think) it's got to be right at some point!

I think an address by the Queen would be appropriate and for those who care about the RF it would be helpful.

Havanananana · 19/03/2020 09:23

I'm no Royalist, but this is one occasion on which I think an appearance from Her Maj might actually be beneficial - if only for those country in the country that still wave the flag and stand when the National Anthem is played.

Nobody believes a word that Johnson says - the man lacks gravitas and changes his message every two minutes, contradicting and denying whatever he said just minutes earlier.

The Danish queen addressed the nation earlier in the week - an unusual event that has been widely praised for the clarity of her message (which was not all good news) and for the fact that it was someone other than a politician who was speaking. It helps that Queen Margrethe is generally held in high esteem and is seen to be a 'working' royal.
