Why is the Queen so quiet?

I wish she would say something, even a ten minute video urging the nation to pull together and do what we need to do in these challenging times.

I imagine it would be a boost for older people stuck at home, I know my MIL would appreciate it. She loves the Queen.

Last people I want to hear from
The royals

EdithWeston · 19/03/2020 08:02

She is self isolating - curtailment of meetings and events up to about May has been announced need.

I think there might be a broadcast to the nation at some point, but they need to find a good time for it - don't wantnan accidental and unintended 'oh fuck it must be bad if they've wheeled the Queen out'

On an administrative note, I think they need to suspend Prince Harry's and Andrew's appointments as Counsellors of State, and reinstate Princess Anne and Prince Edward

AnneOfTeenFables · 19/03/2020 08:03

Perhaps because the messaging is changing so quickly that she can't say anything substantial?

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 08:03

Shows how pointless they are to me too

AgentProvocateur · 19/03/2020 08:03

’far from pampered’ 😂😂😂😂😂😂

That aside, what possible good would a statement from the Queen do? When people are scrabbling about supermarkets looking for basic provisions, having the Queen address the nation would be like Marie Antoinette I’m the French Revolution.

Lynda07 · 19/03/2020 08:03

The queen would look ridiculous encouraging people to keep going through these tough times...from her palace.

More likely she would sympathise with people and commend those who have to keep working, the emergency services for example. What does where she is have anything to do with it? It's irrelevant whether you live in a semi or a castle (people were saying similar about Tom Hanks and that was equally ridiculous). Not all are going through tough times anyway but everyone is very concerned about this serious issue.

LaMarschallin · 19/03/2020 08:03

"times" not "tines".

It's all this gold-plate talk.

Makes me think of my own cutlery.

(The second best lot. Obviously, the best set is solid gold)

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 19/03/2020 08:04

I agree- she could easily do a short video clip from someone 2 metres away FFS. But this is typical of her isn't it? - absent when we really need her. Privileged old bag.

QuimJongUn · 19/03/2020 08:04

She is far from pampered

Absolutely. Imagine being so hard up that you had to choose which palace to retreat to as a pandemic sweeps the globe. Poor woman.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 08:04

Pretty much half will loathe her if she does the other half if she doesn’t

bobstersmum · 19/03/2020 08:05

This thread has given me a laugh!
She appeared after the Manchester bombing didn't she, so yes I am surprised she's said nothing so far.

LuluJakey1 · 19/03/2020 08:06

She has been continuing with her 'audiences' with ambassadors, high commissioners and whoever else at BP, reading her 'red boxes' every day, doing her daily 'Queenly' stuff. I wonder what she will use her time for - might have a sort out of her jewellery, or go through her underwear drawer and get rid of some old stuff, clear out the cupboard under the stairs, watch a box set on BritBox, have a baking afternoon, who knows?

Rocketmam · 19/03/2020 08:07

t's irrelevant whether you live in a semi or a castle

My dc would be having a damn sight more fun if they were locked in a castle and its grounds!

Do her staff live in? If they don't I can't see how she could be kept safe unless the poor things are trying to dust/cook/run her bath in space suits.

midnightstar66 · 19/03/2020 08:07

Surely having film crews etc in to a woman in her 90's is high risk? No one wants to be the one to kill off the queen. (Well probably some but you get my point)

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 08:08

Midnight well exactly

Maybe Philip can upload a mobile phone recording to YouTube

Iamthewombat · 19/03/2020 08:08

Because she's a pampered, pointless, publicly funded waste of space?

The first response on the thread nails it. Nice one @Unshriven!

Theflying19 · 19/03/2020 08:09

She's a 90+ year old lady! She should be in total isolation not rubbing shoulders with camera men and TV minions.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 19/03/2020 08:09

t's irrelevant whether you live in a semi or a castle

Is this a joke? you surely cant be serious? You do realise that many people have lost their jobs and are seriously worried about paying their rent/mortgages now? let alone being able to get food and supplies.
You realise if the queen was ill she would never have to die in a hospital corridor and she'd get a ventilator immediately?
But of course-she EXACTLY the same as us right? eye roll

Iamthewombat · 19/03/2020 08:09

I wonder what she will use her time for - might have a sort out of her jewellery, or go through her underwear drawer and get rid of some old stuff, clear out the cupboard under the stairs, watch a box set on BritBox, have a baking afternoon, who knows?

This really made me laugh.

AnnaMagnani · 19/03/2020 08:10

After her Christmas message about austerity in front of a gold piano, I think I can live without her telling us to pull together from one of her many palaces.

Maybe she could turnover Buckingham palace with its 700 rooms for the homeless?

Letthemysterybe · 19/03/2020 08:11

All my relatives over the age of 65 are self isolating, so I’m pretty sure that our 93 year old Queen is not receiving visitors.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 08:11

Or a hospital

Roselilly36 · 19/03/2020 08:13

I think it is odd that she hasn’t addressed the nation too.

Hooleywhipper · 19/03/2020 08:13

It never occurred to me that we haven’t heard from her. I can not imagine what she could say right now that is going to make me feel any better about the current situation.

Fedupofdoingit · 19/03/2020 08:16

The royal family won’t suffer with shortages! They will be looked after. A message to the nation would be hypocrisy. Plus, if HM or the rest of her useless family get the CV I bet they will get a ventilator even if they have to take some poor b**r off it to give to them!
Bet Prince Andrew is happy that the spotlight has been taken off him!! Before anyone says it, I do not mean he will be happy about the CV hitting the U.K.!
