I've heard from two separate sources about army trucks in towns - assuming it's not true (yet!) and wondered if anyone had heard the same?

nancypineapple · 18/03/2020 15:26

Let's hope these guys come out!

Have you seen rumours of army trucks?
KedsAndTubeSocks · 18/03/2020 15:42

I want Torchwood to come to the rescue!

Indigogirl88 · 18/03/2020 15:42

Yeah not gonna lie seeing some army on the streets got my hormone feels all fizzy 😂😂😂

Indigogirl88 · 18/03/2020 15:43

Wheres DH I'm sure he has some holey army print boxers somewhere 🤔

BlackeyedSusan · 18/03/2020 15:44

only this one.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 18/03/2020 15:47

@Cosmos45 it's when the military are in charge and normal law is suspended. If you don't obey the soldiers they are allowed to shoot you.

wowfudge · 18/03/2020 15:47

@Cosmos45 - martial law means the army would be ruling the country and it would cease to be a democracy. That is incorrect - the same civilian government will be running the country with the army helping the government if Boris and co bring the army in.

There would have to be a coup by the British army for us to be under martial law. That is not going to happen.

sunshineandshowers21 · 18/03/2020 15:51

honestly this whole coronavirus situation has shown that people really will believe any old crap they read on facebook. ‘i have inside information that the army are being deployed. it’s true, someone high up in the government told my mum’s friend’s cousin’s dog.’ and people just lap it up. i’ve removed facebook from my phone because i’m sick of the amount of fake news and conspiracy theories people are sharing.

Notquiteagandt · 18/03/2020 15:52

Ive seen the mass hesteria over images and videos posted on fb. They arent even driving on the correct side of the road. And clearly look like italian army trucks 🤣

Stuff like this causes fear mongering

MerryDeath · 18/03/2020 15:54

i'd be happy to see them.. they are going to be aiming to keep things orderly aren't they. i don't want to see any kind of breakdown of civil society and neither do they.

LightAsTheBreeze · 18/03/2020 15:54

Surely they will be doing stuff like helping with the food distribution with many isolated at home. Similar to how they helped with the floods with sandbags

wowfudge · 18/03/2020 15:55

Stuff like that is fearmongering Not quite

sofato5miles · 18/03/2020 15:58

My sister has posted about army presence in SW london. I post on another thread that my boyfriend had seen the same in Madrid last Wednesday.

A lockdown could be imminent. It is not a coup.

Stereomum · 18/03/2020 15:58

Dh is in the armed forces and he has not been asked to do anything apart from normal activities.

TooTrueToBeGood · 18/03/2020 15:59

The army has trucks, buses, fuel tankers, ambulances, all sorts. Things that might come in rather useful in the coming weeks.

Exactly, and lots and lots of physically fit, highly skilled and completely unflappable professional men and women who will roll up their sleeves and get stuck into any task their nation asks of them.

If they turn up on my street I'll make them all a cup of tea and share out my emergency stock of custard creams. This is the UK not North Korea.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/03/2020 16:01

There's pictures of kitties heading for Worksop on my FB. But they aren't kitted out for anything useful now... I suspect they are quite old pictures.

GenderApostate19 · 18/03/2020 16:02

More worrying is the fact that we don’t actually have enough military personnel to keep the peace if things get seriously out of hand.

dementedma · 18/03/2020 16:03

Op Broadshare. The Armed Forces are standing by to assist, as they always do in times of National Emergency.

Reginabambina · 18/03/2020 16:04

Surely everyone assumes this is already the case?

Lunde · 18/03/2020 16:05

In Sweden the army have been mobilised to build a field hospital on an airfield between Stockholm and Uppsala.

SquirmOfEels · 18/03/2020 16:06

If the Army presence in SW London is that pic doing the round of 'troops at Clapham Junction', I feel the need to point out it was taken about 200m from a big TA centre (and cadet centre, and military prep academy) and lines of uniformed people near there normally don't even raise an eyebrow

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 18/03/2020 16:07

@dementedma UK Ops are not called Op BROADSHARE.

heath48 · 18/03/2020 16:07

I am exArmy,I would be worried if they were not being called in to help.

But don’t think it is helpful posting on here,it is all rumour and here say until we are told otherwise.

FizzyPink · 18/03/2020 16:07

I have a friend in government very close to coronavirus discussions and they’re preparing for a lockdown of London from Friday so the army being called in wouldn’t surprise me at all
