Have you seen rumours of army trucks?

I've heard from two separate sources about army trucks in towns - assuming it's not true (yet!) and wondered if anyone had heard the same?

People screaming out for the gov to "Do something to help" and when they draft in the army to do just that they are screaming "They are setting the army on us"!!!
FFS!

fallfallfall · 18/03/2020 14:44

Wouldn’t it be helpful and wonderful if indeed they were helping; field hospital for the sick or recovering keeping people off the streets and out of parks etc.

RB68 · 18/03/2020 14:45

I hope we do see them - it will help. We also need army medics and army hospital supplies and kit & Equipment - that will need to be ferried around

Marieo · 18/03/2020 14:47

I hope they remain stuck in offices and barracks rather than helping out in roles they are trained for. I mean, logistically, why on earth would we want extra manpower?

Cocopolo · 18/03/2020 14:49

Yes they are coming to help with the closures and keep the roads clear for the emergency services. By friday everything will be in lockdown.

Petetongue · 18/03/2020 14:49

I don't see anyone panicking or suggesting that they will he armed! PP have just mentioned it. My son is not crows control trained, many soldiers aren't, so it will literally be helping with policing shop queues and transporting lorries etc.

Petetongue · 18/03/2020 14:50

*crowd

FlibbertyGiblets · 18/03/2020 14:50

Wouldn't be surprised. Logistics, moving stuff around the country, supporting medical efforts, nothing to be oo er about.

LoudBatPerson · 18/03/2020 14:52

There are several posts circulating that are fake. I have seen two that are clearly not even pictures from the UK (one had completely different style of tricks than the British army use and one showed people driving on the other side of the road to us!).

People need to stop spreading this fake crap, it's making people panic more.

NoBoojustNo · 18/03/2020 14:53

Petetongue

I think the bloody crows do need controlling! Grin

wowfudge · 18/03/2020 14:53

The army helped when Whaley Bridge was evacuated last year - both with helping to shore up the dam slipway and in other ways.

LoudBatPerson · 18/03/2020 14:54

The army will be helping out with needed functions that get disrupted but we will not be under military law that some posts being currently shared on social media would have people believe.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/03/2020 14:55

There was a bloke in camouflage in my kitchen earlier demanding a cup of tea...

Hang on, that was DH.

The army has trucks, buses, fuel tankers, ambulances, all sorts. Things that might come in rather useful in the coming weeks.

Justonedayatatime11 · 18/03/2020 14:56

ExDH is army, advised me yesterday they've been told to prepare for an 8 week lockdown, leave etc to be cancelled/amended. Normal duties to be double manned as they're expecting high levels of sickness. Will be needed to assist public services/deal with any 'issues' surrounding looting/rioting. Not freaked me out at all Hmm

Katkincake · 18/03/2020 14:57

I work in an emergency planning function for an aforementioned risk (when I’m not self-isolating at home!) this will be part of pre-prepared plans and getting ready to support where local resilience forums or COBR have requested assistance- could be any number of things depending on need around the country

Marieo · 18/03/2020 14:58

I will be honest, anyone who knows someone in the forces who gets told these things it's best not to post them online, for what you would hope he obvious reasons.

DitheringDoris · 18/03/2020 15:00

If the army are on stand by then I’m happy, why would it be worrying or scaremongering? They will be around to make us safer.

covetingthepreciousthings · 18/03/2020 15:03

Why would anyone be worried about this? If anything I'm pleased because it means we are getting prepared to be on lockdown.

clarebear99 · 18/03/2020 15:03

There's a post on my local face group page of a van with unidentifiable reg plate, saying 'watch your kids this driver tried to get my son in his van' It's causing panic but I saw the same cctv image at least a year ago Hmm

KedsAndTubeSocks · 18/03/2020 15:04

I've been told we're under martial law from Friday. By a normally sensible friend who has been bleating about how the schools should've been closed weeks ago, but is still out and about with a child with a cough.

NoBoojustNo · 18/03/2020 15:06

Judging by the amount of entitled twats that have posted on MN since Monday with...

Would I be unreasonable to go to the hairdressers/pub/coffee shop/swimming pool/ other totally invalid reasons are available.

We will indeed need the army to go round checking paperwork and shooting them off home with an enormous fine in their entitled little hands.

NoBoojustNo · 18/03/2020 15:07

Oh ffs that should be shoofing not shooting.

Apologies for the accidental panic incitement.m

LangClegsInSpace · 18/03/2020 15:07

I would be worried if the armed forces were not on standby at this point.

Cosmos45 · 18/03/2020 15:14

@KedsAndTubeSocks - what does martial law mean? I have never heard that before.

turkishrose · 18/03/2020 15:15

If the military are mobilised due to this it will be to help out and keep us safe rather than anything bad.
