Have you seen rumours of army trucks?

I've heard from two separate sources about army trucks in towns - assuming it's not true (yet!) and wondered if anyone had heard the same?

That is one of the most poorly done photoshop jobs I've ever seen. It hasn't even been done using photoshop or another proper photo editing software, someone has literally just used a text overlay app or maybe even Instagram to write the words "CORONA-19" onto the photo. There's been no attempt at smoothing the excess pixilation that only appears around the text, no attempt to make the text follow the natural shape of the truck, the bottom of the text sort of 'melts' into the top of the wheel arch, plus the font and the kerning is completely off.

Please, please tell me no one believes this is a real photo? Like, how??? Do you not possess eyeballs? (No disrespect to actual VI people of course.)

Between this and the photo of tanks in what is very clearly a NON-BRITISH country (hint: we don't drive on the right side of the road) I'm beginning to think some people have had their brains surgically removed. Hmm

Have you seen rumours of army trucks?

The headlines are 20,000 troops on standby.

Willow2017 · 19/03/2020 00:57

What's martial law got to do with sort of MACP that is under discussion?

The poster i was referring to actually said they wanted martial law as "it was time to clamp down".
Rtft.

The actual facts. For anyone who wanted them.

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 19/03/2020 03:07

@Handsoffisback UK support is called op RESCRIPT. International support is broadshare. Open source information... you're welcome.

mausmausmaus · 19/03/2020 03:13

it's been likened to war, and the government have told us all that our everyday lives are going to change, at least for a little bit.

of course the army are going to be involved. we're all going to be involved and do our bit, and for some of us that will be to stay home and keep calm as best we can, and do what we can to help the army and the nhs run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. panic is inevitable, but it won't help. turbulent times - please, let's all stay as steady as we can.

As you hadn't quoted that poster, nor did I. They were not calling for martial law, but a 'clamp down', which can mean just about anything. Extrapolating a general wish for an unspecified show of authority (the powers that be using the military to keep order being IME an equally valid interpretation, because most people are thinking of the MACP if you explore their thinking on it.

Andthe point about the difference between MACP and martial law is important (and one I posted about frequently during the London riots).

There were many confused and confusing posts then, not least because of over extrapolation that any wish to see the military in charge of some functions was a synonym for a full imposition of martial law.

My son has been told to stand by but hasn't been told what he will be doing or where. Or perhaps he can't tell me. Sad to think he is 5hrs drive away and I dont know when I will see him now. However others have more pressing worries

Lockheart · 19/03/2020 07:29

FWIW I asked a friend in the army last night if they were getting ready to mobilise and he said "Not mobilising, just chilling".

Whilst it wouldn't surprise or worry me if the army was brought in for assistance, the idiots who think there are tanks driving around Canary wharf (e.g. per twitter last night) are clearly hard of critical thinking.

Or here's a thought..... They are returning from an annual massive exercise that usually involves lots of units that has been stopped early because of Government advice.... 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Posts like this only add to the bloody hysteria

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 19/03/2020 07:45

@Handsoffisback lol. Show me OSINT that I'm incorrect. In the meantime, I'll be in the rescript meeting that my unit have at 0800 every morning. I need to prove nothing to you as I know I'm right. Over to you.

I'll just leave this here & wait for your apology.

feelingverylazytoday quoted another poster who said
It's like some people want martial law
And replied
I do. I think it's time to clamp down now.

Thats what i and a couple of other posters were referring to.

To the poster with the laughing emoticon after her comment.
The image doing the rounds of the trucks being on the "wrong" side of the road:
It's Italy and the army convoys are moving the bodies out of Bergamo because the hospital morgues and makeshift morgues are full. Nearby towns have offered to take them.

SaskiaRembrandt · 19/03/2020 08:28

Genvonklinkerhoffen Also, we've not had fire engines for at least a decade. Don't make stuff up

Really? Travelling to fires with all that equipment must tough - do they sling it over their shoulders and run along shouting 'nee naa nee naa' to fool people into thinking they do have an engine?

@Handsoffisback your behaviour reminds me of our MT Cpl, he sticks to his guns even when he is wrong as well... let your Tp Sgt know if you need a hand with the big words in the article.

@SaskiaRembrandt the army don't have firefighters so no, they don't need to shout nee naa nee naa or sling anything over their shoulders.

The RAF have fire engines on their airfields, not sure how many firefighters they have in service.
