YABU yes
Yanbu no

Shameless I know. I have a small bar. People still coming but wondering at what point we should close our doors.

Don’t close until you are told to. The advice currently is for healthy people who aren’t at risk (and don’t have symptoms) to carry on.

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 20:36

Thanks folks. The results there actually represent customer footfall. For staffs sake time to close I think. Insurance won’t cover us as this disease is not on the list. Never mind it’s a brand new disease.

Nope. Current advice is to avoid pubs even if youre healthy. Sky news summary of boris' rambling message is below

And, in advice for all Britons - even if they are not displaying symptoms - the prime minister added: "Now is the time for everyone to stop non-essential contact and to stop all non-essential travel."
People should start working from home "where they possibly can" and "should avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other such social venues".

SoleBizzz · 16/03/2020 20:38

I was supposed to go tonight but didn't because of my disabled child. I don't know what to do for the best and feel daft not going but sensible. He has no illness.

Lotuscup563 · 16/03/2020 20:38

Of course it’s not on the list...it’s new, are you covered for infectious diseases?

Sweak · 16/03/2020 20:38

#grumpyhoonmain that isn't the advice. Did you watch the statement? Avoid pubs Boris said.

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 20:38

Thanks grumpy - that is what we thought but have had several staff leave today to get home and we are in a tourist town with no tourists. Don’t want to put my staff at risk but also don’t want to shaft my business.

So no, we won't be going out. Not just because of that - my standard babysitters are grandparents in the vulnerable group!

Out of interest, would your insurance cover you if government had been clearer and ordered you to close?

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 20:40

Lotuscup563 yeah fully covered but insurance saying as it’s not named in the list we are not covered.

OP posts:
Lotuscup563 · 16/03/2020 20:40

Don’t close until the government says...which will probably be by the weekend, can you then claim on your insurance as your forced to shut down?

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 20:41

Hoping if it’s a forced closure we can claim but insurance are saying it doesn’t recognise corona virus. If it was the plague we would be covered 🤯

Lotuscup563 · 16/03/2020 20:41

But surly infectious disease is on there? Doesn’t list all the diseases surly? Just infectious diseases...which this is

Lotuscup563 · 16/03/2020 20:42

I would push your insurer...think they are trying it there, this is exactly what insurance is for? Surly?

SilverPepperOfTheStars · 16/03/2020 20:43

Yes, I'd still go to the pub. Generally I don't, because i don't get the time. I've just been highly criticised for choosing to still take my mum out on Mother's Day for lunch, but until these establishments are forced to shut, I'll be supporting them.

ilovesooty · 16/03/2020 20:45

I wonder if the House of Commons bar is closing.

FilthyforFirth · 16/03/2020 20:45

I just cancelled two evening pub plans I'm afraid. I really hope your insurance kicks in soon.

Phifedean123 · 16/03/2020 20:45

No, I am a single parent mother and carer for my dad. I can't risk anything now.

mynamesmrdiggety · 16/03/2020 20:45

@SilverPepperOfTheStars I agree. Our local coffee shop has jsut said they intend to stay open with precautions like tables separated etc. I feel like I should support them if I'm not ill. It's going to get very tough for small businesses.

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/03/2020 20:45

Not a forced closure so don’t close until you are told. He only told people to avoid pubs / restaurants - that doesn’t really mean anything without some kind of police enforcement.

mynamesmrdiggety · 16/03/2020 20:46

The vagueness has really annoyed me. Either force closure or don't. There must be some financial reasons behind it.

Passthebubbly · 16/03/2020 20:47

Insurance could not have cared less, just said they Coronavirus not on the list - we will be taking it further but that is where we are at right now. It’s disgusting.

Froq · 16/03/2020 20:48

Our local has been getting busier by the day. Tonight it’s heaving.

I wonder if it’s everyone working from home so able to pop out as soon as they finish or just want some company maybe.

qwertyuiop098 · 16/03/2020 20:49

We have been advised to completely avoid all but non-essential social contact and travel so...no? Not sure how much clearer the message could be on this.

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/03/2020 20:50

Are you able to deliver? Several bars in London are delivering food / drinks.

whattodo2019 · 16/03/2020 20:50

No.
I work as admin in a private school so we are still working at the moment however I have stopped all social interaction outside of school. With the exception of food shopping.
I think we all need to be v careful.
Although it really isn't helping businesses across the country.
Such difficult times
