Would you visit a restaurant?

With the way this is all escalating, if you had arranged a family meal for Mother's Day next weekend, would you still be happy to go?

Serving and kitchen staff won't get paid if they're off normally so much more likely to go to work even if under the weather. I wouldn't chance it. Decided against a night at hotel and dinner out for this reason on Sat.

stormyjupiter · 17/03/2020 20:19

I truly don't see myself as confrontational Tabby, but you are. Each to their own, don't you think? You saying I made things up when I didn't is as bad as me calling you as people like you, don't you think?
Now a lot of children aren't going to school tomorrow. What do you think about that?

Mittler · 17/03/2020 21:36

I'm visiting a restaurant tomorrow. Our local restaurants need us!

RancidOldHag · 18/03/2020 06:30

"I'm visiting a restaurant tomorrow. Our local restaurants need us!"

I'm not, as the whole population has been urged to practice social distancing. That advice was't given on a whim

LoveIsLovely · 18/03/2020 06:35

Entire community of experts: practise social distancing, only go out if necessary

British people: but I want to go to a restaurant!!!

Selfish, really. Dress it up as supporting businesses if you want, at the end of the day, the only reason you're going is that you want to

The UK is going to be the next Italy, what is up with people just not being willing to listen, it is infuriating

Poppydaisies · 18/03/2020 08:21

Yes very selfish. We're all trying to reduce the spread of Coronavirus. So stay at home as much as possible please!

Mittler · 18/03/2020 15:54

Well, I did go to a restaurant. They had had loads of cancellations, and were very glad to see us (it's a place where you normally have to book weeks in advance). My friend paid for us - around £150, as we had drinks as well.

My friend and I are both youngish, very fit, and completely healthy. The other two people in the restaurant were a couple in their 30s. They were on the other side of the restaurant from us.

How exactly were we selfish?

userxx · 18/03/2020 16:07

How exactly were we selfish?

You are brave :) The restaurant I went to on Saturday was packed.

BunnytheBee · 18/03/2020 20:33

How exactly were we selfish?

Because you didn’t need to go and you could spread the virus to people who are less fit and healthy

Mittler · 18/03/2020 20:48

Friend and I are completely fit and well. I would say the restaurant staff were, too. The other diners were right on the other side of the room. I am not sure how we can be spreading anything. Far more chance of my school-aged children spreading things around (they have been at school until today).

BunnytheBee · 18/03/2020 21:57

It’s because you could pick something up and not know and then spread it to someone else eg when out doing a food shop or to someone in the school playground. You could pick up something from doing non-essential and then pass it on when doing something harder to avoid but it could get to someone vulnerable as a result. I’m not having a go but you asked why some are saying that’s selfish.

BunnytheBee · 18/03/2020 21:58

Friend and I are completely fit and well.

You could pass it on before you realise you have it.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 18/03/2020 22:39

14 days estimated incubation, that is 14 days of being asymptomatic.

Would you visit a restaurant?
LoveIsLovely · 19/03/2020 00:42

@Mittler I don't think you understand. Just because you are fit doesn't mean you can't catch it. It means it probably won't harm you. You can still catch it and spread it, potentially to people who it will harm. That is why the government are advising people to avoid contact. It's not about you, the fit and healthy, it's about protecting those who are not as fortunate as you.

blubellsarebells · 19/03/2020 00:58

I work in a restaurant and we are still working.
At this point obviously we are only serving the dense and reckless.
We may all look young and healthy, most of us are although I do work with some asthmatics, and one with a heart problem.
Some of my colleagues have family members they live with that will most likely die if they catch this.
Im looking forward to the day my company put people before profit and close us down.
Please don't bring your possibly disease ridden kids to restaurants instead of sending them to school.

TabbyMumz · 19/03/2020 06:26

"Each to their own, don't you think? You saying I made things up when I didn't is as bad as me calling you as people like you, don't you think?"
@Stormyjupiter..the above makes no sense whatsoever. What do you even mean? You did clearly make things up and you were appalling to most of the posters on here.
I stated facts in my first post and you made a lot of assumptions in your head about stuff I hadnt even said!!!

TabbyMumz · 19/03/2020 06:41

"Stormyjupiter

oooooohbetty, I feel sorry for you, to find out one of your children is really stupid and couldn't careless about what is going on in the world."
@stormyjupiter ....You said the above to someone. How bad was that!!!! And you had the cheek to refer to "people like you?! But no, you think you are not confrontational.

Egghead68 · 19/03/2020 06:45

No.

Anyhow you may not have the option due to the predicted lockdown.

RancidOldHag · 19/03/2020 06:55

I was meant to be meeting up in a nice pub this evening - four of us, nice place (well spaced tables, local, still open)

I was the one who blinked and said I'm rather not, and the reaction all round was 'oh thank goodness, I was having second thoughts'

We're gong to meet up for a walk, if that's still OK when we can find a daytime time hitch suits us all.

Sunshine1235 · 19/03/2020 07:20

I can’t believe this is still a debate, the government has asked for people to avoid all non essential social contact. This is not an essential trip. Those of you saying that you’re worried about local businesses then pay for your meal anyway, but ffs don’t go there

TabbyMumz · 19/03/2020 07:44

To be fair, this thread started about a week ago, when Borises speech about social distancing was still a hint. This time last weekend, things were a lot different.

riromay · 19/03/2020 07:53

But all this information was there a week ago! Why can't people listen and look at other countries, their cases and measures?! Do you really need the government to tell you what to do? When you can clearly see the situation in Italy etc where so many people are dying and they don't have enough ventilators etc.

It really blows my mind!!

Linwin · 19/03/2020 07:59

I own a restaurant. I closed Monday night after Boris’ speech. I can’t believe some pubs and restaurant continue to open and risk the lives of their staff and customers and that customers are stupid enough to still go.

I will probably be bankrupt soon but I’d rather that than anyone die on my account.

VortexofBloggery · 19/03/2020 08:15

littlemiss74 your employer isn't being responsible then. Email and tell them you're social distancing, following govt guidelines due to your condition and stay home. Ask them for confirmation of your pay during this time. Hope you're OK.
