Would you visit a restaurant?

With the way this is all escalating, if you had arranged a family meal for Mother's Day next weekend, would you still be happy to go?

Businesses are going to be really badly hit by coronavirus so I’m doing my bit to support them whilst I can

Likewise. I’ll take every precaution but there needs to be some semblance of a country left to rebuild once this is over.

Purplequalitystreet · 15/03/2020 13:30

I am still going to restaurants, but I can understand people who don't want to.

I read something that said that to protect small businesses like independent restaurants, see if you can buy a gift voucher as a mother's day present. That way the restaurant will keep up cash flow until this blows over. I thought it was quite a good idea

joffreyscoffees · 15/03/2020 13:33

Yes. We need to support businesses wherever we can.

PeterPanGoesWrong · 15/03/2020 13:38

one if the staff sneezed into her hands and continued to serve . We weren’t the only people to change our minds about eating there

You do understand that sneezing is not a symptom of coronavirus?

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 15/03/2020 13:39

Yes, we'll be going out next weekend as usual.

Imonlydoingwhatican · 15/03/2020 13:40

Pubs and resurants will be closed soon after mass gatherings. Just to warn you xx

Knittingnanny · 15/03/2020 13:44

We are 60 plus but no health problems, we are just being extra careful to avoid crowded indoor places and trying to carry on as normal including grandchild duties.
I do plan to try and support local small businesses. For instance Im going to buy wool and fabric this week at the shop where I go to knit and natter instead of buying cheaper online which I often do.
My youngest son works at Wetherspoons, if they shut he will be on statutory sick pay and struggle with rent etc. Fortunately he has no family to support and I’m in a position to help him financially. I’m really sad for all that are going to be hit financially.
On a lighter (!) note I hope to be able to go to the hair dresser next Saturday before lockdown for us oldies to have my roots done. Please note I said lighthearted before I’m accused of flippancy!

I had lunch in a rural pub with a friend on Thursday. There were about 6-8 in there, all spaced well apart. We used gel before we ate, I took antibac wipes for the table although they were cleaning everything regularly and washed hands thoroughly before we left. Fortunately could elbow out of the doors. I am not sure I'll be doing that again though.

Icantfind · 15/03/2020 13:50

Yes because it could be months before this goes away.

mymymymycorona · 15/03/2020 14:00

I think a lot of businesses just need to realise that they need to take a financial hit over this unfortunately!! It's for the good of the people!!

cadburyegg · 15/03/2020 14:09

Yes I would

jdy123 · 15/03/2020 14:15

@PeterPanGoesWrong it is a way of spreading virus through droplets though... same as coughing

BunnytheBee · 15/03/2020 14:20

I last went to a restaurant on Thursday with a friend but had in mind it was 6 pm on a weekday so maybe not so busy.

Mothers Day will be very busy in most places.

DH and I are avoiding unnecessary contact now.

Roselilly36 · 15/03/2020 14:34

No I would cancel.

YukoandHiro · 15/03/2020 14:35

Nope

NanSlayer · 15/03/2020 14:37

No because most of the food standards of restaurants are simply disgusting.

KatherineJaneway · 15/03/2020 14:38

You do realise it's not just about whether YOU'RE at risk though, right?

Yes, well aware thank you 🙄

I am also aware that restaurants need repeat business so as long as I take precautions, I would go.

Mysocalledlifexx · 15/03/2020 14:41

I wouldnt ,anyone can have it now, people around u people making your food.
Washing hands isnt going to take away all the risks.

MissBax · 15/03/2020 14:41

Yes, well aware thank you

Are you sure about that? Surely if you fully understood how serious this is for a significant chunk of the population you would rethink that.

So either you don't actually know, or you don't actually care.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 15/03/2020 14:47

Yes, I've been on a city break in Edinburgh this weekend, everywhere was very busy. On a packed train just now, people are just getting on with it, no one is wearing masks or anything.
Next week we'll just have to take it as it comes I suppose

BrowncoatWaffles · 15/03/2020 14:49

We were out today and stopped at a cafe but assuming things continue as people are anticipating I don't see us going out next weekend. We'll be cooking Mother's Day lunch at home.

Goawayquickly · 15/03/2020 14:51

I’ll go to restaurants, I’ll probably avoid buffet/carvery/salad bars though if I’m honest (not massively keen on salad bars anyway)

pelirocco123 · 15/03/2020 14:52

In one now

Quarantined · 15/03/2020 14:55

In my personal circumstances yes I will continue to go out to restaurants and cafes and so on.

I have come out of quarantine having returned from Italy on Monday. The government no longer requires returning travellers to stay at home, only people with symptoms regardless of where they've been. I was eating in restaurants in Italy all of last weekend, why wouldn't I do the same here unless I became ill.

I stress again that these are MY particular circumstances, I wouldn't go out at all if I felt unwell and I wouldn't go out as much if I was vulnerable.

I'm always fastidious about hygiene, but to be honest if the government's plan is to build herd immunity then I'm exactly the kind of person who should catch it to build herd immunity to protect others. I'm going to keep being careful of course because I understand the importance of flattening the contagion curve, and I'm worried about the possibility that people requiring critical care for other conditions will slip through the cracks in all this.

Wingedharpy · 15/03/2020 14:56

I personally wouldn't due to being immunosupressed and the likely presence of numerous children.
Plus, I'm a bit ancient.
Your circumstances may be very different to mine, so, only you can make that call.
I do think, however, that we will ALL be affected by this sooner or later, and that it will be a case of having to do/not do things that we would prefer not/to do, NOT necessarily for our own benefit but FOR THE GREATER GOOD.
