Would you visit a restaurant?

With the way this is all escalating, if you had arranged a family meal for Mother's Day next weekend, would you still be happy to go?

OP posts:
userxx · 15/03/2020 15:00

Went out last night and the restaurant was full.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 15:04

No way. Why would you? I can't see the point of risking it. Look at what other countries are doing to prevent spread.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 15:14

Thehogfatherstolemycurry, my country had x6 positives a week ago. Now England has more positives than my country, in a week. Government asks people to wear masks so not to spread, and all school has been closed. Scary for me, for not being proactive.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 15:15

*x6 than England.

Alwaysreadyforbed · 15/03/2020 15:16

I was in a restraint yesterday and it was heaving. I’m definitely going out next week as well.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/03/2020 15:21

I went out for my dinner last night. It was to be one trip out, before the shit hits the fan, as my child has conditions. I’m now stressing about it, even though we’d a lovely night. We booked a booth, so that was good and assumed that everyone else wanted to sit in the raised dinning area for similar reasons, so was a bit annoyed that although the restaurant was quiet, we were all in one area.

When I asked about it, apparently they put us all together in the raised area as it made it easier for them to serve and clean up! Are you fucking kidding me? A big restaurant and they put us all together!!

I printed out that other places were REMOVING tables and chairs so the customers were sitting much further apart and totally sterilising between each dinner. Ffs!

MissBax · 15/03/2020 15:31

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily

So you went out to a social place and you're annoyed at the restaurant for you bring close to other people?! Hmm

KatherineJaneway · 15/03/2020 15:34

Are you sure about that? Surely if you fully understood how serious this is for a significant chunk of the population you would rethink that.

Yes I am sure. Have you issues with your comprehension?

So either you don't actually know, or you don't actually care.

I do know and care but life doesn't and can't suddenly stop unless the government say so. Businesses like restaurants cafes etc need patrons to survive. If we take the government advice and are sensible, that is the best we can do. If the government then said we have to all stay at home, I would but they haven't said that and I have friends who are restaurateurs.

Purplequalitystreet · 15/03/2020 15:36

@mymymymycorona you do realise that not all businesses can afford to just "take the hit financially?". Hundreds will go out of business. Thousands will be out of work. People will lose their homes and there will be more pressure on food banks. How is that "for the good of the people?"

MissBax · 15/03/2020 15:38

If we take the government advice and are sensible, that is the best we can do.

If the government then said we have to all stay at home, I would

These two sentences are contradictory. On the one hand you're saying the best you can do now is 'be sensible', whatever that means, but obviously doesn't include social distancing.

Then you go on to say you actually could do more (but only if the gov say jump).

When you look at 'the gov' for your advise, do you not look at what other countries and their citizens are advising too? Or just trusty BoJo?

blue25 · 15/03/2020 15:39

No way, not with parents in their 80’s.

mymymymycorona · 15/03/2020 15:40

@Purplequalitystreet well if it's a choice of getting sick, someone dying etc etc (which includes a financial hit also btw) or taking a financial hit alone and staying healthy and safe?? I know what ppl over here in Ireland are doing!! Most of the cafes, pubs and family run businesses such as hairdressers and shops are closing!! Because they know it is the Right Thing to do for EVERYONE!!

Over here we are being advised to "act like YOU already have the virus" rather than acting like you might get it. Sounds logical to me!!

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 15:41

I have read few days ago from one positive person in one restaurant/bar caused the positive results for 40+ people.
So if you want to go to the restaurant now, it's your choice, so if tables are spread apart or put close together, I don't think it makes much difference. Same people are serving and cooking the meal.

LouisaJenny · 15/03/2020 15:42

Personally yes, I would. I had dinner out yesterday at my favourite local, family run restaurant and will continue to do so whilst I can.

Grufallosfriends · 15/03/2020 15:44

I was in a restraint yesterday and it was heaving. I’m definitely going out next week as well.

Great way to quickly spread the virus!! Hope the Government stops this soon.

Paintforkitchen · 15/03/2020 15:45

Yes, we ate out last night and are doing so again tonight. Also just off to go bowling with some friends. It won’t be long until we can’t do any of these things I’m sure so making the most of it for now!

user1483387154 · 15/03/2020 15:46

The restaurants over here have just all been shut down. Take out via delivery only

DrummerGal · 15/03/2020 15:48

I had breakfast out this morning. Cafe was moderately busy.

No symptoms, so not self isolating. Pointless anyway, as I’ll be at work tomorrow in a frontline public facing job for 8 hours, public transport trips both ends of the day, and the DC will be at school, so hours and hours of social contact.

Redears3 · 15/03/2020 15:49

We were booked for Mother’s Day dinner next week, the restaurant has cancelled the booking.
We won’t be going out any time soon to save money, my DH is self employed & I’m a NHS worker in clinical areas.

mymymymycorona · 15/03/2020 15:50

I have NEVER been so happy to not be living in the U.K. than I am right now!! Enjoy yer corona virus outbreak, your Nhs breakdown etc etc!!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/03/2020 15:55

I feel guilty because local businesses need custom but I work with elderly people so have not gone out this weekend as we normally would and won't be doing so for the coming few weeks. We have also put planned nights away on hold.

I need to be responsible and try my best to remain healthy as I'm one of the few staff on our ward that won't have childcare issues if the schools close so will need to keep working. My children are older teens so we have different worries.

formerbabe · 15/03/2020 15:55

Yes I'd go to a restaurant. I'm happy to continue living my life as normal.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 15:59

mymymymycorona, you are being horrible. Shame on you. Think of karma, cv may not get you, but something may, in the future if you enjoy many people suffer, without their faults.

DrummerGal · 15/03/2020 15:59

@mymymymycorona

How pathetically childish. Grow up!

MissBax · 15/03/2020 16:04

mymymycorona is clearly being facetious but their message is fair enough. You just have to read through the comments on here to see how little the UK public care about the spread of corona, and inevitably the impact it will have on the NHS. I'm ashamed of the attitude many have taken and can understand why someone wouldn't want to be in the UK at this time.
