With the way this is all escalating, if you had arranged a family meal for Mother's Day next weekend, would you still be happy to go?

@mymymymycorona what a pathetic attitude.

Stop acting like people's livelihoods don't matter. There is much more to a pandemic than the immediate health concerns. People will be feeling the effects of this for years

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/03/2020 16:07

So you went out to a social place and you're annoyed at the restaurant for you bring close to other people?!

Yes I did, because I’m a regular and thought I should give them my support, but if you did more than cherry pick through my comment, you would have read that there was absolutely no need for us to be that close. I was told the restaurant was very quiet, when I checked an hour before, so didn’t expect them to have people sitting right beside each other. But you obviously know better. 🙄

BadEyeBri · 15/03/2020 16:09

Yes. As long as people aren't all crowded in. I think it's important to support local hospitality business because if there is a lockdown they are in for a rough time

mymymymycorona · 15/03/2020 16:10

@DrummerGal @Stormyjupiter but if you read through this thread the MAJORITY of you are carrying on like NOTHING is wrong, like YOUR lives must continue regardless!! I'm not WISHING anything on anyone!! It has already happened but the attitudes on this thread are so DISHEARTENING and unfortunately if ppl continue on the way they are claiming then the U.K. will all the luck it can get imo. I wasn't trying to be rude, I am trying to make you realise that if you don't STAY HOME, Then things will only get a lot worse!! And the NHS CANNOT support the crisis that you are bringing on yourselves!!

MissBax · 15/03/2020 16:17

There was no need for you to be there at all, don't be so ridiculous.

The poor waiting on staff who has to listen to you lecture them about how they should be working when they're probably anxious enough as it is about even working, without someone telling them how they could avoid the spread - yet being out in a restaurant to begin with. The irony!

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 16:26

mymymycorona, I am not British, and if you have ASed me, you would know I am really concerned about CV in UK. But I do live here in UK, so I have to follow the rules here, if I like it or not. You say I act as if there's nothing wrong. I don't. A week ago, my native country had about 5/6 times positives compared to England. Now, England taken over the number. I would rather be in my own country now. State of emergency declared, schools have been closed, etc. But I don't think they would want me back there, after living in England for long time.

Wtf do you mean lecture? I did no such thing. I’ve met them on numerous occasions and we were chatting about how this virus has impacted on local businesses and how they’re dealing with it. You obviously feel the need to lash out at someone for some reason known only to you, but I’ve no interest in being your emotional punch bag or get into point scoring with you, as I find your attitude rather tedious, so go bore someone else. I’ll not be replying to any more of your silly little comments.

MissBax · 15/03/2020 16:29

Emotional punch bag? Confused

Quarantined · 15/03/2020 16:32

Stormy what country is your native country? What sort of approach have they taken and what news are you getting from people you know there?

InFiveMins · 15/03/2020 16:34

Yes I would still go.

ValleyoftheHorses · 15/03/2020 16:36

We have cancelled our Mother’s Day meal out 😢
All grandparents are in their 70s so trying to stay in mostly although going out sometimes to see 1 friend.
I am doing their shopping etc
We’ll cook a roast on Sunday and deliver it to my parents. DH can pop over and see his mum.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 16:37

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily, you say your dc has condition to worry about. But yet, you talk about the impact this virus has on the local business.
People who really have great threat about family member won't care about local business. They worry about their lives. Do you think my comments are silly to?

wheresmymojo · 15/03/2020 16:41

Personally no.

I'm not doing any more group socialising now - only meeting one person or very small numbers of people at homes.

Plan to keep to this until the end of the outbreak (I realise it may be months and months) as I'm concerned I could get pneumonia and I'd really rather not.

wheresmymojo · 15/03/2020 16:42

Social distancing...

Would you visit a restaurant?
WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 15/03/2020 16:44

We've got a table booked for Mother's Day and it hasn't even occurred to me to cancel it.
I'll still be going.

LadyHofH · 15/03/2020 16:44

To answer your OP, OP:

Yes.

user1494055864 · 15/03/2020 16:53

We have a table booked for mothers day. I plan on carrying on as normal until they shut the schools, as I work in a school, and my kids are in high school, so as long as they are still going, I intend to go out on mother's day.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 16:54

I have to change my name again after this, but Quarantined, my country is Japan. We had about 200+ cases last week when England had about 50+. As of today, Japan has 787(22 deaths) and UK 1140(21).
The early closure of school has worked as well as closing gathering places, and giving people not to go out unnecessariliy, and generally ask them to wear mask not to spread(not to get it). I think it worked really well, since Tokyo, the Capital city of Japan is one of the most densely populated country in the world, like London.

ssd · 15/03/2020 16:56

I'd go. We've just been to a local cafe in a furniture shop, it was very clean and they were taking lots of precautions. We washed hands before our food.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 17:04

So the people goes out since they don't think it matters, until the end of the days. Only the weak suffer. They get it and spread, but it won't matter as long as they are ok. It's not about you, if you get it or not if you are generally well, young and strong.

weareallunique · 15/03/2020 17:04

Wow I really didn't expect this many answers!

My main worry is that it is going to be busy as it's Mother's Day. We will not know who has been in there that day and the days before and whether they are well or carrying the virus or not. As some people have also said, we don't know the health of the chefs/waiting staff etc either.
I totally get that it's unfair and businesses will lose out but going out with elderly parents with health conditions, their safety and well-being has to be the priority doesn't it.

I think your comments are fucking cruel and ignorant. I’m also a small independent business and stand to go under because of this, so yes, I’m trying to support others. I won’t see either of my boys for months after this, so don’t you dare judge me. Away over to the other threads and have a go at all the shoppers panic buying, because they’re mixing with a hell of a lot more people than me. Maybe you’ll be really lucky and you can have a dig if my daughter dies, because I let my guard down once, because a restaurant was totally upfront. Fucking disgraceful, using my disabled child to have a dig at me.

Stormyjupiter · 15/03/2020 17:10

Wow, Op, you just made most silliest comment, so you don't care about people worrying about the virus but your main concern is if the place is busy or not. Enjoy your meal.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/03/2020 17:10

Wasn’t

Most businesses should have business interruption cover built into their insurance policies to cover the loss of earnings anyway.
