Would you visit a restaurant?

With the way this is all escalating, if you had arranged a family meal for Mother's Day next weekend, would you still be happy to go?

Going to wait and see how the next week pans out.

Spodge · 15/03/2020 11:49

Yes, so long as anyone in the party who should be isolating does so.

including the staff that prepare and serve the food. spodge

Redpriestandmozart · 15/03/2020 12:09

No way, not crossing my front door, I'm immunosuppressed and I don't trust other people not to cough or sneeze over fixures and fittings.

ChrissieKeller61 · 15/03/2020 12:11

Friends restaurant is closing 2.5 days per week already ...

Poppydaisies · 15/03/2020 12:12

No way. Way too many opportunities for transmitting the virus! Too risky as you don't know the cooks and all the waiters as well all the other diners around you.

Mayra1367 · 15/03/2020 12:12

Went into a hotel yesterday for lunch . Hand sanitizer on the bar but one if the staff sneezed into her hands and continued to serve . We weren’t the only people to change our minds about eating there .

peachypetite · 15/03/2020 12:13

Nah. You don’t know about the staff.

Littlemiss74 · 15/03/2020 12:14

@Redpriestandmozart do you work and if so will you be working from home? I take immunosuppressants and don't know what to do regarding work tomorrow. My employer knows my situation but they haven't told me to wfh..

MissBax · 15/03/2020 12:14

We're social distancing as much as possible, so no socialising or really even going out other than work or buying the necessities for the foreseeable.
Our friends think we're bonkers for cancelling plans but we both work in health are with the elderly and frail so it doesn't feel worth it to take any chances to be honest.
I think everyone should be doing the same.

DitheringDoris · 15/03/2020 12:15

I went out twice for lunch last week, I won’t be eating anywhere but at home for the next couple of months. I think next week is going to be the turning point and a lot is going to happen regarding socialising.

SistemaAddict · 15/03/2020 12:17

No, I wouldn't. And I've been craving my favourite dish from my favourite Italian restaurant Sad

mymymymycorona · 15/03/2020 12:18

I'm in Ireland where A LOT of restaurants have closed and are doing delivery service only

minxthemanx · 15/03/2020 12:18

Cancelled plans for family lunch next Sunday as my Mum is 89, brother has diabetes, both my DS have medical conditions...too many vulnerable people. Not worth risk.

AuntieStella · 15/03/2020 12:19

I have a planned meet up with friends one evening this week, and we haven't cancelled (yet) but we have been thinking about where (quiet place, well spaced tables, pity it's still a bit chilly to sit outside)

My DMum has already, with huge regret, asked us not to visit for Mother's Day, as she's in a highly vulnerable category.

I'm perfectly happy to 'do' Mother's Day at home.

It's going to knock a lot of restaurants, pubs, cafes and coffee shops into hard times though. They need the revenue from the days when lots of people go out, plus of course from people who take breaks at Easter. It doesn't look likely to be happening this year.

Connie222 · 15/03/2020 12:20

No I wouldn’t.

But I’m 15 weeks pregnant and I’ve only really just got over the pneumonia and pluerisy I had in December. Feeling that shit again is something I never want to go back to so am taking no chances.

Smurf123 · 15/03/2020 12:22

Nope we cancelled our St patricks day lunch today.. But we all have asthma and my mum is due cancer surgery in a couple of weeks so can't risk it. We are only going out to get food and even then only one person going.
Am off work until Wednesday on planned holiday anyway but will wait and see what is happening there next week.

Megan2018 · 15/03/2020 12:25

We have an early mother’s day lunch booked for Saturday- we will decide Friday if we are going or not. We’ll lose a small deposit but not bothered about that. My grandmother mother who is 93 is meant to be meeting my 6 month old DD for first time. But I’m concerned about her traveling for it (my parents are getting her as she’s 4hrs away)

Kindlingwood · 15/03/2020 12:25

Please do so.

The business may be relying on it. I know we are worried about next weekend and the impact it may have.

Please don’t stop using local businesses. We have families to feed, wages to pay, mortgages to pay. We are not rich, or even well off. We barely scrape by as a fairly new business.

Be sensible, but please don’t panic

Figgygal · 15/03/2020 12:27

We did yesterday it wasn’t any quieter than normal
Husband and son gone to village pub today for a walk to get out of house while they can
Not sure about next weekend yet

Redpriestandmozart · 15/03/2020 12:30

@Redpriestandmozart do you work and if so will you be working from home? I take immunosuppressants and don't know what to do regarding work tomorrow. My employer knows my situation but they haven't told me to wfh

@Littlemiss74 I've emailed work, they know my situation and as yet not got back to me, I am going in tomorrow as I will be on my own in the office and I don't use public transport, so less risk. My job does not transfer to WFH so I hope they will give me a different role. If not I will have to go on sick leave :( I work part-time, this week will be easy enough but I'm hoping they have something in place by Wed. Do you have a public facing role?

Nquartz · 15/03/2020 12:31

No I wouldn't because as PP have pointed out you don't know the histories or health of any of the other diners, staff or how well the place is cleaned etc.

I feel terrible though for the places that will close as a result of this. It's a shame Mother's Day wasn't earlier this year, it must be a big peak for restaurants that they are going to miss this year.

byvirtue · 15/03/2020 12:34

Businesses are going to be really badly hit by coronavirus so I’m doing my bit to support them whilst I can.
