Who is doing what?

I wish I could work from home, but I can't, and am worried about commuting.

My DH DS and our friend who lodges with us all off to work/School as normal .I am SAHM so will still go shopping for a few essentials as normal ,take the dog out and so on .Life carrying on as normal for as long as possible .DH/DL both been told to prepare for WFH if it happens.

Cockola · 15/03/2020 11:46

NHS. Will be going in

Alice02132354 · 15/03/2020 11:46

@MrsMGE
but the CEO is religiously following the Govt guidance and not a step further. Lack of common sense is rile.

Following govt guidance is common sense. I'm not going in cause I coughed a few times last monday.. following govt guidance. But I feel just fine and would rather be at work. I will be going in on Tuesday.
Country needs to stay running and your mortgage will still need paying. Let's not ignore reality.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/03/2020 11:46

I’m not going into work as I’m on leave Grin
It’s come at a bad time in some ways as I’m snowed under due to CV but it’s good timing too as I’m a bit snotty and occasionally sneezing though am afebrile so a week at home will be handy.
I’ll be back at work next Monday and like all NHS clinical staff I expect it’s going to be hard work!

ageingdisgracefully · 15/03/2020 11:47

I'm on a course, which hasnt been cancelled as yet.

I'm going in as normal otherwise (officey job, public facing). Many customers will self-isolate hopes.

Pumpkinpie1 · 15/03/2020 11:47

DH can’t work from home, but I am concerned as he is immunodeficiency.
DD also health issues but no longer in school I am playing it day by day, have events booked - expect them to be cancelled but am cutting down social events.
Challenging as we’ve a small house , I bathroom and no spare place to isolate if one of us gets ill!

trappedsincesundaymorn · 15/03/2020 11:48

I can't wfh so am going in as normal. Any time off will be taken out of annual leave or requires a drs now (yeah I know!), otherwise it's counted against us on the Bradford factor.

usernotfound0000 · 15/03/2020 11:48

Work part time so not due to work again until Wednesday, hoping there'll be a change in policy from either work or the government by then and I'll be WFH, assuming no one picks up symptoms by then in which case we would be self isolating.

MrsMGE · 15/03/2020 11:49

Alice, with all due respect, don't teach me about common sense.

If we all can work from home without any harm to the business, then we should be allowed to do so, not stopped from it because BoJo didn't tell the same to the whole of the country (because some are not equipped to do that - unlike us).

Littlemiss74 · 15/03/2020 11:49

@NaturallyEden did your GP give you any further advice or how long to wfh for? I take immunosuppressants and I don't know what to do. I've emailed my RA consultant but not had a reply.

Spagbol88 · 15/03/2020 11:50

I was due back to work tomorrow from maternity leave (11 months off) but am having to self isolate til Thursday due to a dry cough
I'm a teacher and will absolutely be there as long as schools are open etc.

Alice02132354 · 15/03/2020 11:52

@Cockola
NHS. Will be going in

Well, according to everyone on here who thinks the govt is wrong, you would still be going in. The lockdown everyone wants excludes you.
I mean, give us your opinion by all means but get your arse to work is what is being said.

** We are all eternally grateful for the jobs you guys do, I'm just making a point.

MoaningMinniee · 15/03/2020 11:52

We run a dog walking and daycare service, we've set up a mobile handwashing station in the Doggy Funbus (it used to be the mobile dogwash, but I've added liquid soap to the supplies as well as the standard anti fox-poo dog shampoo and mild disinfectant for paws), clients who are WFH will be putting their dogs in the garden when we arrive so we don't have to enter their homes, same when we return them, clients who can't WFH due to nature of job - that's why we've set up the mobile hand wash station so as not to spread anything around on door handles etc. I actually started this system last week anyway. We have several NHS staff as clients as well as teachers and retail etc.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 15/03/2020 11:52

Ds off to school as usual. My uni has closed so I'll be home but if it hadn't closed I'd have been going in regardless.
As it is I'm worried about how this is going to impact my learning...

Somebodystired · 15/03/2020 11:54

I'm WFH with my 3yo who has to self isolate. I work for a government department and am currently leading my team's Covid-19 response 🤦‍♀️ we are very quickly redrafting our WFH policy to allow for care of dependents during working hours, and will probably logon for a few hours tonight to get some work done (and do the same each evening) to get ahead for the next day.

KatherineJaneway · 15/03/2020 11:54

I'm WFH tomorrow but that was planned anyway, will be in work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I was due in Friday (normal WFH day is Friday) but the two talks I was due to attend have been cancelled so I might WFH Friday if it is OK with the boss.

Don't think it is long before we will be asked to work at home full time.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 15/03/2020 11:55

Wfh tomorrow while they resilience test the servers in case we all have to WFH indefinitely. I do have a training course on Friday, no news yet on if it's taking place

sportinguista · 15/03/2020 11:56

I'm working from home but I solely work from home anyway, I also home ed so only change may be that DS cannot attend some groups he goes to. My DH will be working as he works in logistics for large UK retailer whose products are in demand.

Crinkle77 · 15/03/2020 11:57

I work in a university and at the moment its business as usual.

DropZoneOne · 15/03/2020 11:57

I work for a tour operator. My "normal" work has dried up but we're all hands on deck processing cancellations and refunds - every staff member has been system trained. At the moment this is being done in the office, but with key members of staff staggered WFH so they are not all in the office together.

We're having to record any absence from the office as Covid-19 specific, whether that's illness or leave due to schools being shut etc, so they can a) track it and b) make sure no-one is penalised financially.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/03/2020 11:59

NHS here so patient face-to-face , no WFH.

I can safely predict that there will be problems .

The level of awareness I have seen and heard from older people (and it's NOT an Age Bashing Post Hmm ) they seem determined to carry on as usual.

There will be cancellations of Routine Clinics to concentrate on the Higher Risk ones .
Patients will attend with oh I've got a bit of a cough but I'll put this hanky over my face
People turn up in the throes of pneumonia, flu, D&V, C-Diff, shingles and scabies .........because they don't want to miss their apppointment and wait another xyz weeks .
Lots of "Oh I just got out of hospital on Saturday ..."

I will carry on to the best of my ability as long as the advice is to do so.
Rigorous applications to Infection Control.

I am at risk myself , so if I need to SI, then I'll do everything to protect myself.

It's going to be utterly shite for the concieveable future

Betty1233 · 15/03/2020 12:00

I’m going to work .

polkadotpixie · 15/03/2020 12:02

I'm going to work. I'm NHS admin though so no idea what I'll be doing when I get there as I was off sick last week (not COVID-19 related). I don't know if our clinics are running or not

DH is a self employed Gardener so hopefully shouldn't be too affected work wise as he has almost no human contact so he will be working too unless his clients cancel him

DS will be going to my Mum's as usual as she has him while I work which does worry me as she is 65 but I have no alternative for childcare

Llioed · 15/03/2020 12:03

I work in a pharmacy, so not going to work isn’t an option for me because patients still need dispensers and pharmacists in order to receive their medication. There are procedures being put in place to protect us in case anyone comes into our pharmacy who may have Covid-19.
