Who is doing what?

I wish I could work from home, but I can't, and am worried about commuting.

Has everyone seen this video of a classic WFH fail? So funny, first time so have laughed all day!

I have a job you've never heard of in a hospital

Without the likes of me, no sterile drip bags, parenteral nutrition bags and chemo and mineral infusions would be produced.

I have to go in tomorrow, I could never work from home and if people are forced to isolate, mine would be considered essential work.

YahBasic · 15/03/2020 18:36

Commuting in tomorrow by train. Was only in once last week and have really got cabin fever so going to go in for a change of scenery & probably wfh rest of the week.

Icare1234 · 15/03/2020 18:38

Going in tomorrow. Small charity and though in theory some of us could wfh they don’t seem to be organising anything. I think we may close.

Zhuleva · 15/03/2020 18:43

I’m going in. I don’t like working from home so am trying to taste the freedom of work (oh the irony) before they tell is all to go home - probably this week

Patchworkpatty · 15/03/2020 18:45

Civil Servant . Have been WFH for a week already. Although also immunodeficient so have additionally had to move away from my children as one still at school, yr13 and one working in central London (so been on tube/train commute) .. so staying away at present. I can't SI whilst 2 children are out and about... luckily they are both able to look after themselves. We live rurally and both drive /have cars.

LentilWeavingExpert · 15/03/2020 18:46

All as normal. I WFH anyway. School and college still open so DC are going. Adult DD commuting into London for work (she’s desperately hoping they’ll close the office soon) and DH will be delivering food to supermarkets (HGV driver). Bit concerned that his lorry may be hijacked as we seem to be descending into social breakdown with the current hysteria in the supermarkets Hmm.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/03/2020 18:57

That was a good one, ChequerBoard.

I remember that poor bloke being utterly mortified.

Children will still be at nursery and school. DH is WFH. His company advised everyone able to do so, to start last week. He would otherwise be commuting.

I’m planning to get out and buy some things to keep the kids busy if/when schools/ nurseries close.

@jewel1968

For you and anyone whose employer needs to be pointed towards Government guidance regarding wfh and sickness (as the two things can go hand in hand - especially for those with preexisting risk factors)

Working from Home/position on sickness

The general advice from HM Govt is around a shift towards flexibility and greater focus on the health needs of their employees, and removing barriers rather than creating them, which should include wfh:

In the meantime, we continue to urge employers to respect the need to stay at home where they are following government advice to do so and to show flexibility in the evidence they require from employees.

Thanks Daisy

Believe it or not, my workplace has just deemed travel to work is essential for all of us and we need to be in (even though most of us can wfh). It's madness.

idontlike789 · 16/03/2020 19:03

I was expecting my employer to at least brief us today but no nothing.
Oh just that not paying suppliers unless critical , I think a lot of companies will do that as worried that will get paid . It's a shit time and I'm worried about my job getting paid etc.
It's the uncertainty, I'm hoping there will start to be some contingency regarding working from home in the next day or so especially if someone in the family gets symptoms.

QueenOfPain · 16/03/2020 19:05

I’m due back at work tomorrow. Im a telephone triage nurse so I could definitely work from home, however I only work 10 minutes away, compared to vast amounts of our staff who are based further afield, so it’s very likely I’ll be one of time expected to keep working from base so that the limited home working equipment can go to people who otherwise wouldn’t come in.

MrsMGE · 16/03/2020 19:08

I travel by public transport and think it makes no sense at all. Might have to ask DH to drop me off and pick me up at this rate, we have one car. Just pathetic greed and completely wrong priorities from the owners.

We were told today we'll be split into one team working from home and one team going in but as isolated as possible from each other. IT not prepared so attempts at setting everyone up to work from home or in other parts of the office largely failed. I'm one of the ones still going in. Walked the 5 miles home this evening, weather looking OK to do that this week instead of bus/train.

Bouledeneige · 16/03/2020 22:58

My office is closed and everyone is working from home.

MulticolourMophead · 16/03/2020 23:07

I reckon I'll get to work tomorrow to be told to go home. I can do a lot of work at home if I have access to the team folders. But, we don't have enough IT to allow everyone to work at home. If I have to use my own laptop, my access will be limited.

Oh well, not much I can do there.

Piixxiiee · 16/03/2020 23:12

Got to go in. I'm a teacher.
Dh might work from home.
Kids both got cold but no temp or cough so far ... so they go in too.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/03/2020 23:48

I went to work as usual today. By the end of the day I was told to wfh from now on. I have no mobile signal at home so will have to work out a way of phoning via my laptop.

homemadecommunistrussia · 17/03/2020 06:51

Dh working from home for the foreseeable future. I will have to go in, not much scope for WFH in my job, but at least we'll be paid. dd off to sixth form for now but ds will be coming home from uni today.

jadey0885 · 17/03/2020 06:53

I can't work from home. I work for the nhs so I'm sucked in to do the work!

Hard for me to take time off because nhs are in high demand for help.

I have Make sure that I'm well covered and don't come into contact with anyone with coronavirus

lightlypoached · 17/03/2020 07:08

@ICantBelieveIDidThis Thankyou.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/03/2020 07:21

I'm working from home today, but was at work yesterday and will be tomorrow and on Thursday.

Trying to leave an empty seat between me and the next passenger, at least the trains weren't too busy.

Also, as soon as I get home I take my shoes off and go straight to the downstairs loo, push the door although touching and wash hands, then use Miton fluid to disinfect Oyster, Keys, phone and anything that was in my pockets.
