Who is doing what?

I wish I could work from home, but I can't, and am worried about commuting.

I'm a private tutor - am going to carry on with face to face lessons as long as the schools are still open, once they close will do online teaching instead. Husband works from home anyway, children will be going to school.
Until they lock down over 70s then we will need to reconsider (my parents live with us).

Harveywoo · 15/03/2020 15:43

Thanking my lucky stars that I work in an industry where it’s both possible to work from home and for a company and line manager who are risk averse, so am working from home as of tomorrow until whenever. Trying to persuade other half to do the same is proving trickier. I reckon those of us who can do it should do it to decrease the risk for those who can’t.

DoTheNextRightThing · 15/03/2020 15:47

Technically I have the capability to work from home - I have a work laptop and everything. However unless we are told otherwise by management, we are expected in tomorrow. So it will be back on my germy commute as usual!

pisspants · 15/03/2020 15:48

I usually wfh 3 days a week but am doing 5 for time being. Dd 13 is self isolating until Thursday as she had a bad fever on Weds night though probably as she had an injection at school. Ds will go to school as usual

Travelban · 15/03/2020 15:52

Dh and I are both working from home. All my work travel has been cancelled. Children all going to school and after school activities after. Life will feel normal until schools close.. Then the juggling work/kids will begin..!!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/03/2020 15:53

Technically carrying on as normal, but my boss has made it very clear he doesn't really want us in. I think I'll do a mixture of going in when I need to and wfh otherwise (I'm not completely desk-based) , but I fully expect the building to shut down soon.

Lanymor · 15/03/2020 15:54

We're all self-isolating here as my 8 year old has a cough.

Eireni · 15/03/2020 15:58

Vet, we will be open as usual unless we cannot maintain staffing levels and then we’ll consolidate staff in some branches and close others. We legally have to provide emergency care in any case. Fully expecting a lot of cancellations for routine appointments and we are preparing for how we can continue service whilst minimising contacts - phone appointments, dropping off meds etc. Our regulatory body has issued guidance saying it understands we may have to relax some decision making (like prescribing without examining) in some situations.

If I have time tomorrow I am planning to phone some of my elderly/vulnerable clients to check in and see if there’s anything we can do to help them. We know quite a few people who don’t have anyone apart from their pets so am worried how they will cope.

tootiredtoconga · 15/03/2020 16:04

I work in a secondary school and Boris want us open so will be going in. Which means DC will have to go to school and nursery as normal. DH will be WFH three days this week as that was the plan anyway, but he is likely to be working from home full time from the end of this week.

MrsMGE · 15/03/2020 16:15

Eireni, that's such a lovely thing to do and so thoughtful of you Flowers I hope those who need help will tell you and that you'll have more volunteers helping out Flowers That's a fantastic idea.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/03/2020 16:16

I’m a lecturer, and it’s business as usual. Apparently if classes do end up being cancelled for students, staff will have to continue to go in rather than work at home. I feel quite frightened.

MrsMGE · 15/03/2020 16:17

In fact, those of us working in a legal sector with vulnerable clients could also pick up a phone and simply ask if everything is ok - you've just given me an idea Flowers

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 15/03/2020 16:19

Isolating at the moment but if feeling better by tomorrow will WFH until out of isolation at the end of the week

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/03/2020 16:20

I work in the NHS. (manager, non clinincal). I can do some wfh but not always. I'm.going in tomorrow as we have a new member of staff starting but am.hoping to wfh On Wednesday.

Dh has got a London meeting tomorrow so will be commuting to there. DS1 has a job that he cant do from home so will have to go into the office

mrsdolittle · 15/03/2020 16:23

I work at a sixth form college so work for me. DS going to school. DH probably work from home.

fastliving · 15/03/2020 16:24

Will be going to work as usual.
Very small company, not possible to work form home because of the equipment we use/need.
Everyone drives to the office and there is space for us all to keep fairly separate at work - everyone working there is young & healthy.
I assume we will try not to share equipment as much as possible, and keep washing hands regularly.
I would hate to be off work and self isolating so hopefully we can carry on as usual.
Hoping our customers don't cancel orders and the business can ride out the storm.

Daffie19 · 15/03/2020 16:27

I work in a hospital so no choice but to Go to work.
But I'm currently self isolating because I've got a cough and had a temp weds Thurs Friday!

GreenMagnolias · 15/03/2020 17:05

I have just had an e-mail from our Managing Director saying the office is open and epxects to be so fir the rest of the week.

For an office that as i said up thread can work from home without any true impact on the business.

OvertiredandConfused · 15/03/2020 17:34

I'm WFH for the foreseeable future. Already practising social distancing and willing to stay in for as long as it takes. Not keen on self-isolating within my home for four months though.

I'm mildly immune-compromised due to regular meds, have MS and hypertension (well-controlled so it didn't bother me initially). Puts me into the vulnerable group. DH still commuting into London; DS still at secondary school and working in retail and DD on placement in a school.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/03/2020 17:41

Dh is a fence erector and I work in a school. Its work as normal here.

Dibdabdobdop · 15/03/2020 17:53

@catpoooffender thank you

Mintjulia · 15/03/2020 17:55

Ds will be off to school and I’ll be going to work.
We are currently healthy, he has classes, I have a job to do in tech, supporting govt networks.
If we get symptoms then we’ll isolate but until then it’s business as usual.

xSaro · 15/03/2020 17:57

Work for me still unfortunately, I could do with an excuse to have a nice bit of time off as well. I'm non-clinical staff in a hospital but still currently told to visit the wards as part of my role, management are considering the possibly of us working from home if the situation worsens but unsure if they could provide us with the laptops and software at home, though some other hospitals do have our role work from home permanently.

My partner works in a supermarket warehouse so unable to work from home - people still need to eat so unlikely he will be sent home either.

TeaLibrary · 15/03/2020 18:02

For the minute I am going into work as normal. Having said that the last email we had on Friday afternoon was about what IT were doing to prepare people for working from home if and when that becomes necessary.
