Who is doing what?

I wish I could work from home, but I can't, and am worried about commuting.

Have started a thread for anyone who is WFH and would like to chat about it ...

Community specialist nurse... I'll be at work. It's busy, lots of adaptions and prioritising of caseloads. Patients anxious+++ we will stay calm and not panic

MulticolourMophead · 15/03/2020 14:32

I'll be going in as normal tomorrow, although work is finalising plans for wfh as necessary. Most of my job can be done from home, as long as I have access to my online work area. I'll be spending a little while tomorrow setting things up and saving back ups of important docs for working on.

If it goes on too long, then a lot of our work will slow down and I'll not have much to do.

If plans have changed, my boss has my number and messages will be cascaded down. Boss and colleague and I will have a whatsapp group for sharing messages. We can also Skype if needed, too.

Dollyparton3 · 15/03/2020 14:38

I work in an environment where we can all work from home but for the moment we're following government guidance to carry on as normal, wash hands, isolate of sick etc. I have to get a packed train and tube to work but I'm not overly worried, I will of course be very careful when at home around elders though

Nixen · 15/03/2020 14:42

Both into the office as usual, DD to nursery as usual. I’m not working Tuesday & Wednesday so we will be laying low - park to feed the ducks etc but no playgroups / soft play. We’ll see what Thursday brings and reassess then...

Nixen · 15/03/2020 14:42

We can both work from home and will be doing so soon I reckon

EnglishRain · 15/03/2020 14:44

NHS staff, but not clinical. We aren't allowed to WfH despite the fact we spend most of our time in close contact with clinicians and going back and forwards across the site for meetings, usually directing many patients to their destination along the way. My hospital has recently had terrible press attention based on their leadership and decision making so I can't say I have much confidence in them at present.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant, and I will not be going in. My GP has said if work won't let me work from home he will write me a sick note because he thinks it is highly inappropriate for me to be on site at the moment. Work can either have work from me at home, or nothing. Although in actual fact I will work from home anyway, to make sure everything doesn't fall over. If work class it as sick that wouldn't be ideal, but I'd rather that than go in.

atomicnotsoblonde · 15/03/2020 14:44

NHS. We're going in. There really is no other option.

EsmeShelby · 15/03/2020 14:45

I am in tomorrow. But the national meeting I am attending part is going ahead by VC and part is cancelled. I would not be surprised if I am told to work from home by the end of the week.

namechangemania · 15/03/2020 14:48

Public sector dealing with vulnerable people face to face on a daily basis - there is no way our office will ever close so it’s work as normal.

GreenMagnolias · 15/03/2020 14:50

MrsMGE i am in the exact same situation.

Fee earners wortk from home or otu of the home (court, county hall, prison) all the bloody time.

I am not clear why our boss is expecting us to go in. i have just spent 4 hours this morning working form home. He seems reluctant to believe people will actually work. The thing is- the workd gets done and pretty much everyone works above and beyond. A little trust goes a long way.

ProfessorPootle · 15/03/2020 14:50

I wfh normally so am carrying on, dc are going to school, dh can’t work from home so will be going in.

Thecatisboss · 15/03/2020 14:51

I'm in hospital at the moment (not with any virus - hoping I get let out soon) so don't think I'll make it to work tomorrow.

MrsMGE · 15/03/2020 14:51

@jewel1968 I completely agree with you.

BendyLikeBeckham · 15/03/2020 14:52

@Dibdabdobdop the gov have said that you dont have to wait 4 days for SSP and that your employer can claim up to 2 weeks SSP back from the gov. It won't cost you or your employer to go off sick for 2 weeks. If you are coughing and you have asthma fgs stay at home. And point your employer to the gov guidance.

JKScot4 · 15/03/2020 14:53

@MrsMGE
And he's more worried they'd have to pay admin staff for doing nothing as they can't work from home
What a horrible attitude this person has, heaven forbid lower earners want to protect their health and their families and expect to be paid, you know to survive.

ChequerBoard · 15/03/2020 14:54

It's DH and I will be WFH, all travel banned by both our employers.

TheClitterati · 15/03/2020 14:55

I work from
Home anyway. Dc still in school.

So no change for us really.

GreenMagnolias · 15/03/2020 14:55

Our admin staff can work from home. Our receptionist has been told to be prepared to take an office phone home that can be redirected for her to still take calls and messages. Our legal secretary can acccess work from home to do legal aid applications and screen new clients.

None of us have to be physically in the office. Um- ever. So I do not get why our big boss is so anti it. It boils down to the fact that he thinks people will take the piss. IME people generally do NOT take the piss if you repsect them to behave like professionals.

MrsMGE · 15/03/2020 14:56

@JKScot4 I know, I told my secretary I'd pay for food for her and her kids if needed, I won't let her go without.

But here we have the big boss, sleeping on millions, with several properties, worried the support staff will have to be paid.

Squigglypig2 · 15/03/2020 14:57

I'll be going in, it'll take until someone actually gets it at work before those in charge seem it necessary to shut our office and even then I suspect they'd just wipe down some door handles and tell us to come back after a day. I am set up to WFH and they are asking everyone to trial over next few days (lots of issues with those who are not set up) so if Govt actually took a stronger line we could do it.

MintyCedric · 15/03/2020 15:02

I work at a secondary school, which DD attends. We'll both be in as until the government says otherwise there would be repercussions if we stay home, and there's no point one of us going in and one staying.

I'm not happy about it at all (elderly, high risk parents who will be screwed if I get it as no other family, and some lesser health concerns myself) but my hands are tied.

PussyWillowPeach · 15/03/2020 15:13

I WISH we were allowed to WFH. It’s frustrating as my job allows us to WFH but limited to 2 staff members at one time - WFH is not exclusively available though as I am a social worker so visits and meetings obviously have to be attended but all admin related tasks (majority of the workload) could be completed from home. Unfortunately my employer is following the government advice and so far all we’ve been given is a bottle of hand sanitizer by our kitchen sink. It worries me as our office is open plan and a lot of people aren’t taking things seriously (and we’re still hotdesking!). There’s a fair few of us on my team alone who live with someone with compromised immune systems so tensions are definitely there.

itsallamysterytome · 15/03/2020 15:28

I work in food retail, but not in until Wednesday unless there is overtime. I expect there will be.

DS1 also works in food retail and will be going in tomorrow as usual.
DS2 works part time at the weekends in food retail and uni during the week. His uni have not put out any updates on closing, but I am expecting it any moment. He may do overtime if asked, not sure I want him too, but the stores are, as you know, crazy busy.

DH is WFH, we all work for the same company, and it has a great WFH if possible policy anyway. They have cancelled all face to face meetings and travel.

MrsMGE · 15/03/2020 15:28

@GreenMagnolias Hey! Let's hope they'll come to senses soon, I see no point in us being out and about when there are so many people in other professions who have to be in. We shouldn't be adding to the strain of potentially getting it and being ill, there are so many vulnerable people and the attention should be on maximising everyone's efforts to protect them. This is an unprecedented situation, a pandemic and potential life/death cases, some bosses' dislike of WFH cannot be weighed up against that.
