AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

I haven't bought any for myself, because I normally buy a pack of 24 and it lasts us for ever.
But I did buy 81 today for a family that's in complete lockdown. But I didn't buy a lot in each shop. Because I think it's only fair that other people also can buy some locally

Pumpkinbell · 14/03/2020 00:36

36 rolls but thats norm for us to have excess in this same as wash powder, washing up liquid, bleach (5 ltr), hand wash and body wash lol! Why 🤷‍♀️Habit I suppose but glad of it now.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 14/03/2020 00:38
  1. I bulk buy toilet rolls online and bought some before the panic even started. Usually last us for 6+ months.
stopgap · 14/03/2020 00:39
  1. I always buy in bulk from Costco.
Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 14/03/2020 00:42

11 rolls in total - two on the go (have two loos) and a nine-pack I managed to buy today. NB would normally buy a big 18-pack from Aldi but loo roll shelves there were bare so had to go to a Tesco superstore. Crazy.

WyfOfBathe · 14/03/2020 00:42

About 11 I think. An unopened pack of 9 and whatever's left of the last one.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 14/03/2020 00:43

About 6 left. I buy the cheapo ones in bulk from groupon (that last about a day each as they're so loosely rolled) and usually get a 60 pack. This time I only bought half, just been in hospital for a week to find I can no longer buy toilet rolls in the supermarket, along with the nappies needed for my newborn and anything to sanitise the house with Hmm

MrsCharlesBrandon · 14/03/2020 00:44

30 ish. Family of 5 here. I've picked a couple of 4-packs up recently in case my grandmother can't get hold of any easily.

Eireni · 14/03/2020 00:44

Erm...., I just totted up, and it’s 97 Blush and that’s totally normal for me, no panic buying at all, that’s just my usual bulk-buying/prepping/hoarding habit.

So glad there’s at least one person on the thread ‘worse’ than me. I thought it was kinda normal to have this many stashed away. Clearly not! I do have OCD and IBS.

We have two packs of 16 and a couple of random rolls leftover from the last pack. We always buy the big packs but me and my husband had the same idea last week and both came home with one so not a panic buy.

maddening · 14/03/2020 00:46

I got a load in for brexit last year. Incase of no-deal so have 90 but not due to corona panic buying.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 14/03/2020 00:47

A good 40 - but that's cos we buy it in bulk from Amazon as needed and the black friday deal was so good we bought 2 lots (saved about £18 doing so from normal amazon price)

Itscoldouthere · 14/03/2020 00:47

I’ve got a new pack of 24 I bought yesterday, but we do have 5 toilets in this house ( I know madness).

Flymetothetoon · 14/03/2020 00:47

84

DangerMouse17 · 14/03/2020 00:54

3 that I cant use because they're covered in some fragrance crap that burns my fanjo.

None in the shops as selfish people have nabbed every last one.

Had to get a pack of tissues (the little packs you pop in your handbag) because that's all I could find. Sigh.

NotOneToShoutOut · 14/03/2020 00:55

I have 8 left (house hold of 5). All local shops have run out. I looked on the usual sites / supermarkets but none were available.

Went on Groupon and the lowest number I could buy was 120 rolls!

Missmummy88 · 14/03/2020 00:57

60, but not because I have panic brought but because to me, buying in bulk saves mental load. So I always have lots of toilet roll, hand soap (currently have 7 bottles) bleach, anti bac spray (currently have at least 10 bottles). The mental load of stocking up every 3 months is much better for me than constantly thinking what cleaners etc I need. I have depression and anxiety before people flame me for being a panic buyer ( which I am not, this is a year round stock) if someone locally needed toilet roll, without doubt I would share given the current situation

Procrastination4 · 14/03/2020 00:58

Is toilet roll really that scarce in England?? Apart from Aldi, there’s plenty in stock here in Ireland. A lot of those who shop in Aldi are nuts though -shopping with double trolleys, for example or taking a whole box of tinned goods from a display or buying umpteen bunches of bananas (you’d wonder do they usually not buy them or else they’d know their limited shelf life!) I’m not bothering going into Aldi at the moment but just go to Super Valu instead-plenty of loo roll, pasta, rice and tinned tomatoes thereGrin

m0therofdragons · 14/03/2020 01:02

About 15. I've got three girls and they seem to get through at quite a rate. I overheard dh teaching one that she only needed one sheet to wipe... i stepped in and educated him Grin

Pulchra76 · 14/03/2020 01:11

96 but that’s only because me and the other half both bought 2 packs of 24 not knowing the other had bought them.

Megan2018 · 14/03/2020 01:24

We buy a 24 pack when they are on offer on Ocado so that we have a pack in hand. We have an unopened pack and and an open one. I’d estimate 40 in total (3 loos and can’t be bothered to go and count).
This is what we would usually have in though, no different to any other day of the year. We live rurally and its a 20 mile round trip to a shop

HalfBearOtherHalfCat · 14/03/2020 01:24

About 50. This isn't unusual for us though, as we have loads of storage space, so I tend to stock up on anything non-perishable if I see a good offer.

HeIenaDove · 14/03/2020 01:24

32 (rolls not packs)

DH and i were on the bones of our arse in the late 90s and would have to skip meals.

Once you have been through this it NEVER leaves you so i always put one just ONE extra item in when i shop be it a pack of toilet rolls or pasta or tinned soup. This obvs builds up over time which is why we have so many.

The FEAR of being without basics never leaves you if youve been there. This is not panic buying but BECAUSE of the panic buying i didnt buy any last week or this so those who need it can have it. Got enough so my 84 year old parents can have some if they need them. DM is short on pasta so im taking a couple of packs round there today.

Ilovesausages · 14/03/2020 01:30

I’ve got 72.

I ordered 2 x 36 from
Amazon a couple of weeks ago.

I’ll be happy to share them with anyone who needs them.
