AIBU to ask how many toilet rolls you currently have in your house?!

After being accused of panic buying and enabling/encouraging panic buying on another thread I’m curious as to what’s the norm.
As toilet roll seems to have sold out everywhere or most places at least - do you have a big stock of them normally?

We currently have 18 left over from one of the big packs of 40 from Costco we bought a while ago - always do our big shopping there so also have wipes and antibac laundry in volume for the same reason!

26 and a half. All girls in our house so we use more anyway. Just got an extra pack in our last tesco delivery. Normally I'd order a 9 pack every two weeks. We'll be using more anyway as the school and college are shut so my two daughters will be home all day. I suspect my work will be closing next week or the week after the way things are going here in Ireland so I'll be home using it as well. Hmm

1forAll74 · 14/03/2020 01:41

I have a pack of 4 rolls. Don't use antibac, and never buy wipes of any sort ever. Have three bottles of bleach, and always use bar soap.so always have a few bars of Pears soap or Wrights coal tar soap in.

BringMeAGinandTonic · 14/03/2020 01:49

I have 7.5 rolls (yes, rationing it now so counting the half)! Stores and online stores are sold out.

AngelicaKauffman · 14/03/2020 01:50

We buy 12 packs. It's currently got 4 in it so I'm gonna buy some tomorrow.

We have bidets though so a 12 pack lasts us (a family of four) for about 5-6 weeks.

ShatnersWig · 14/03/2020 01:53
  1. Single person. That will last me 6-8 weeks. I normally buy a new 4-pack when I start the last roll.
LaCherriesJubilee · 14/03/2020 01:55

Probably about 150 but that was very gradual Brexit prepping over 2 years and buying on sale. I am helpful in the current climate because I will not need any for eons so I can leave it all for everyone else.

Littlepond · 14/03/2020 01:58

About 22. We always bulk buy toilet roll anyway from Who Gives A Crap.

DaveMinion · 14/03/2020 02:00

Around 15. DH picked up a 16 pack of Andrex on offer just before all this madness kicked off. We have 2 toilets and only 2 of us so should last us the apocalypse (we had some left over and only just cracked it open - pardon the pun 😁)

Mypathtriedtokillme · 14/03/2020 02:02

About 40.
I always buy a new packet at the next shop after I open the one in the cupboard.

I spent half my childhood running out of loo roll!

icclemunchy · 14/03/2020 02:35

About 65 😳 however only because I forgot to cancel the subscribe and save order I had for 48. I was complaining at the end of Jan that they kept falling out of the cupboard. Not so much now because I don't have to think about it!

LucaFritz · 14/03/2020 02:38

30 toilet rolls
6 antibacterial handwash
12 bars of soap
I stocked up back in October though in preparation for my DS been born since i live alone and didn't want to run out while housebound i also have a healthy supply of tins pasta and freezer meals for the same reason

loubieloo4 · 14/03/2020 02:45

About 40 from our usual Costco shop last month, thankfully as dh (39) has stage 4 bowel cancer and can get through quite a lot. We also have a couple of packs of baby wipes.

Can't imagine we will run out but if we do we have plenty of flannels that will just have make do with. Might actually be a good thing!

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 14/03/2020 02:50

54

i buy 2 packs of 24 roughly around the same time every month even if they are needed or not and we had 6 left over from last time

but thats normal for us anyway as ive been doing this for years

we have 2 adults with ibs and a 9 y old that goes quite often per day as he eats that much per day so we go through quite a few

i always get 2 24s in home bargains and just replace when we run out

i do the same with washing powder(i buy the giant 120 washes)and a few giant fabric conditioners

HonestlyItsFine · 14/03/2020 02:54

About 9 maybe? I'm not sure. If I run out and can't get anymore, will just jump in the shower I suppose.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/03/2020 03:06

Where do you store 150 rolls?

DimplesToadfoot · 14/03/2020 03:07

I have over 24, live alone and would happily let others have them if the need arises, I only have this many as when I do an online shop the balance isn't usually enough to either get the delivery or will incur a surcharge, so to make up the balance I add a 24 pack of loo roll, I've had this pack since before the panic started but I still feel guilty :-(

Idontknowmyownname · 14/03/2020 03:08

I have four 12 packs unopened and a fifth we only opened today so one roll is gone from that.

At no point did I panic buy. I'm more of a hoarder.

I've been to the shops 3 times in the past two weeks and even then it's only for fresh meat.

On a normal monthly shop (pre-pandemic) i would normally pick up one or two hand soaps, anti bac wipes, various disinfectant cleaners, loads of bottled water and toilet paper. These things just get used in my house so I make sure I never run out.
It's just pure dumb luck that my hoarding has made me unintentionally prepared for this issue.

aLilNonnyMouse · 14/03/2020 03:22

I buy an 18 pack every 3 months. Got 12 left so around 2 months worth.

lightlypoached · 14/03/2020 03:31

50+ because we've just had our 'who gives a crap?' Regular delivery. They are the most beautiful toilet rolls, and no plastic wrapping either Smile

https://uk.whogivesacrap.org

They've sold out at the moment but please do take a look once the madness has died down. I've never been so excited about bog roll. Grin

mathanxiety · 14/03/2020 03:43

30 for two of us. I would spare a square if asked Smile.
Four gallons of neat bleach.
Bleach spray.
Lysol aerosol spray.
One bottle 91% isopropyl alcohol.
I 8oz bottle hand sanitiser. Neither love nor money will get you this item around here right now (American upper midwest).
Four big packets of sanpro, various types.
One refill bottle and half a bottle of liquid handwash, three Pears bars of soap for handwashing when all that runs out, two huge bricks of fine milled Italian soap from Christmases past for the shower, four bars of ordinary supermarket brand soap.
One and a half boxes of tissues.
Four bottles of Tylenol (acetaminophen), each containing 200 tablets.

I have a good stock of pasta and couscous and about 10 lbs of rice, plus tins of beans and tomatoes and tomato paste. Also dried peas, beans and lentils, stock cubes, and soup I made and froze. And wine.

I stocked up on food in the approach to winter this year because we lived through the Polar Vortex last winter, but only just. It turned out to be a remarkably mild winter this year of course.

I used to stock up gradually in the autumn when my DCs were babies and toddlers and I lived in a succession of apartments two floors up in buildings with no lifts. Also because imo it was unreasonable to drag little ones out in bitter weather even once a week, and a huge palaver to get everyone kitted out in snowsuits and folded into their carseats.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2020 03:46

We also buy ours from Costco and we're down to about 16, and I'm slightly worried because I have no clue how fast we use it. We don't actively prep but buy to keep good stocks in rather than what we need week to week if you know what I mean. Which is good because we can live for weeks on what is in the cupboards and freezer and might even use up some of the backlog that's been hanging around for a while.

I went to Costco the other day and they had none at all so if stocks get lower before they get some more in, we're going to just have to get what we can from anywhere. They had some in aldi yesterday but not a huge selection and it was being restricted to 2 packs so hopefully shops can now keep at least some supplies in.

You must all have huge houses. I don't even have any space to store that many. I've never had more than 6 in my house at one time

Not at all, we live in a small 2 bed semi that has walk in pantry type storage over and under the stairs so big things like the Costco loo roll pack live in there. We did keep it under the bed but we have cats and some of them love to shred a toilet roll or 6.

Batmanandbobbin · 14/03/2020 03:48

I have 54 rolls. but we only buy toilet roll twice a year and do it in bulk. Black Friday, amazon prime day. Blush

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2020 03:54

Don't be embarrassed Batman

You're not adding to peak demand now so can hopefully weather the storm. It's the people who don't normally keep anything in and have panic bought that have caused the problem.

I know that some people don't have the money to even lightly bulk buy but you only need a bit of spare money to keep a bit of extra essentials in and it works out much cheaper over time if you buy the big packs on special offer rather than small packs of what you need week to week. I'm talking about a 4 pack of beans once a month instead of a single tin each week, that sort of scale.

tricky29 · 14/03/2020 04:18

I always buy 5 x 9 rolls from Costco so have about 30. I haven’t bought more than I would normally.
I always bulk buy the things we use loads of when they are on offer...tinned tomatoes, pasta, rice, beans, tampons, weetabix, tuna, sweet corn. Just because it ends up being cheaper overall.
My friends have always made fun of my store cupboard but it’s mainly because there wasn’t always enough when I was growing up.

Bibijayne · 14/03/2020 04:24

About 20? Part way through a 9 pack in our downstairs toilet and recently opened a new 18 pack in our main bathroom. I tend to buy a minimum of 18 (single big pack if they have it, or two nine packs) when I do get it. It's much cheaper and saves an extra trip to the shops. I tend to bulk buy most bulkier items.
