Self isolation support thread

Apologies if a thread on this has already been started. Had a look but cant see anything glaringly obvious.

Thought I would start a self isolation support thread to stop those in isolation from going stir crazy.

I am on day 1 of self isolation. I have had mild manageable symptoms of various things slowly creeping up on me all week. But last night my temp reached high numbers and I'm now coughing have consulted work and I must stay away for 7 days. Kids wont be at school either as they have told me to keep them home. They both have mild coughs and I was struggling to get my head around the logistics of getting them to school.

I have found the whole week very strange. Not knowing when I need to panic. I suffer with chest infections when I get run down anyway so the symptoms are all similar. Have also had full blown flu a few times and again the symptoms are similar. Everything feels too vague, no one knows anything for sure and I feel like it's such a weird time to be living in.

Please post here if you are self isolating to keep me company. I'm really gonna miss work as I work with the the most fantastic people! No doubt the kids are gonna drive me crackers too as whilst they are pleased they get a week off school they have realised they will be missing all their extra clubs etc.

My husband is 5 days in with self isolation... I'm thinking this means we need to join him in the remaining 9 days... it's not ever so clear is it? His fever disappeared last Saturday...

JustUrggghhhh · 16/03/2020 17:40

@yellowpirate my husband is now jumping in on our two weeks. He has no symptoms but will now stay home with us until our 14 days are up!

Well shit.

After a week of DH & I (me 50+, him 60+ with health issues) being super cautious and cancelling all our plans, DS's 'girlfriend' (they're 11 !) was sent home from school today because her mum is a nurse and treated a confirmed case this weekend! 😱

Nurse!Mum is all 'Oh it's fine, my DD doesn't have it, school is over-reacting blah blah'. Meanwhile my DS and her DD have been kissing (!!) so now I think I need to keep him home too. DH and I are apoplectic and DS is raging because I've said he can't see the girlfriend.

Fuck.

sluj · 16/03/2020 17:54

My DS is coming home from university on Saturday so does he join us in isolation for the rest of the 14 days or does he start his own 14 days? Hmm

Toomanycats99 · 16/03/2020 17:58

I have had really mild on and off mild sore throat and headache since end of last week.

(Not even at a level to take a tablet) I have had a couple of coughs today but wondering if they are just me thinking about coughing if that makes sense!

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 18:05

Does anyone understand what I mean when I say my headache is only around the edges? I was trying to describe it to my BF and it was the only way I could! It's like someone has scraped the middle out of the pain ball?

Whatsmyname26 · 16/03/2020 18:05

Starting 2 weeks self isolation now 😩 my kids have high temps and coughs. Plan on doing Lego, board games and paw print badges here once they are feeling better.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 18:08

We'll keep you sane! 😍

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 18:24

@sluj he’d have to start from day 1 unfortunately

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 18:26

@turquoise50 you don’t need to keep him home. He neither has symptoms or has been in contact with anyone that has it.

Cailleach · 16/03/2020 18:28

Started a few days ago with vague symptoms that made me think my recent sinus infection had come back. Then developed into an odd, dry, raspy cough and a temperature that swung up and down wildly. Thumping, centre-of-head headache. Over the last 36 hours I have been very breathless, even finding it hard to talk. Feels like my lungs are being squeezed - first this was in the upper chest, now moved to the lower.

Don't feel hugely unwell, just very tired. No appetite at all but oddly enough and craving protein shakes so am living off those and yoghurt.

Have told work but am well pissed off at having to take time off. I have only been there just less than a year and am hoping it doesn't go against me as I really like the place. :(

Anyway, get well.soon all!

Whathappenedtothelego · 16/03/2020 18:39

We have just started self isolating as a household. I have a (probably daft) question - do I need to keep the cats indoors? The risk is probably low, but I don't actually know where they go, and they could maybe transmit the virus on their fur.
I'm leaning towards keeping them in. Is this ridiculous (and cruel) or sensible?

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 18:40

Ah well...let the building of the Plague Fort commence!

Can I bagsy a small dog bed/bean bag right by the fire? I'm bringing a basket full of crochet hooks and flap jacks.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 18:41

what that's a bloody good question actually!

turquoise50 · 16/03/2020 18:52

@SugarSugarShimmy Not isolating him completely (still going out to shops etc, at a sensible distance of course) but if the school has a policy that the girl shouldn't be in due to family exposure, then my feeling is that it would be irresponsible of me to send my DS in, knowing what I know about how close the two of them have been. I called the school and they said it's my call so that's what I'm doing. Especially after I alerted them to that, they're not going to be impressed if I send him in I don't think. Schools will most likely be shut within a week or so anyway.

I'm just annoyed that after all our efforts at avoidance, the risk was so close at hand all along! It's sod's law. There's only been one confirmed case in our county so what are the chances?! Of all the nurses in all the hospitals in all the world... 😔

Oxford2018 · 16/03/2020 19:02

Day 3 of self isolation
Going insane
Symptoms: cough (coughing up horrible snot like stuff), fever, aches, pain when I breathe in
off work today and will be WFH for the rest of the week (lucky to have a job where I can WFH)
hardly any food in the house, next available Ocado delivery slot in 2 weeks - going to have to rely on friends to bring supplies to the door Sad

Angiemum24 · 16/03/2020 19:08

I think we are going to have to self isolate. Youngest daughter has a fever and headache. Be confused by it all though. What if I need a pint of milk?

Whatsmyname26 · 16/03/2020 19:09

Send patience... or gin! 2 weeks isolation with 2 autistic children and an autistic husband working from home.

Does anyone else feel like it’s not quite real?

Beebityboo · 16/03/2020 19:16

What do we do for bread/milk? We have no one to help and I wasn't as prepared as I should have been Sad.

BelfryBat · 16/03/2020 19:31

You can make your own bred if you have yeast.

Beebityboo · 16/03/2020 19:35

Just had a look and have no yeast. We could survive without bread but not without milk for DD. DH has no symptoms but I don't want to put anyone at risk.

Fennelandlovage · 16/03/2020 21:01

Do you have a milkman in your area - might be possible to order online. Or neighbour/ friend - there must be someone you could ask to drop a few pints by your door?

Fennelandlovage · 16/03/2020 21:03

I am 8 days in isolating myself. Husband joined on Thursday and we kept the dc home today for the week and now seems going to be 2 weeks 😬. It’s going to be a loooooong haul as we all feel varying shades of terrible. Wish me luck.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 21:14

Ok- so I'm confused.

I started isolation technically on Friday, just because I happen to have not left the house...

Because of the new announcement, my kids have started today.

Does that mean they're allowed out of isolation when I am- ie, the Friday after next? Or do they have to stay in isolation until the Monday?

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 21:55

@shrimpythegnome

Yes when you are. It’s so you know they’re clear of symptoms
