Self isolation support thread

JustUrggghhhh · 13/03/2020 08:09

Apologies if a thread on this has already been started. Had a look but cant see anything glaringly obvious.

Thought I would start a self isolation support thread to stop those in isolation from going stir crazy.

I am on day 1 of self isolation. I have had mild manageable symptoms of various things slowly creeping up on me all week. But last night my temp reached high numbers and I'm now coughing have consulted work and I must stay away for 7 days. Kids wont be at school either as they have told me to keep them home. They both have mild coughs and I was struggling to get my head around the logistics of getting them to school.

I have found the whole week very strange. Not knowing when I need to panic. I suffer with chest infections when I get run down anyway so the symptoms are all similar. Have also had full blown flu a few times and again the symptoms are similar. Everything feels too vague, no one knows anything for sure and I feel like it's such a weird time to be living in.

Please post here if you are self isolating to keep me company. I'm really gonna miss work as I work with the the most fantastic people! No doubt the kids are gonna drive me crackers too as whilst they are pleased they get a week off school they have realised they will be missing all their extra clubs etc.

I’m feeling quite a bit better today - had a tight chest and increased cough this morning but that’s calmed down and I’m not so exhausted now. First day I’ve done some chores since Monday!

Liveinside · 14/03/2020 19:34

I had a bad headache earlier in week too

Snaptheirfingers · 14/03/2020 19:36

Day 4, due to being in Italy on the 10th. None of the specified symptoms. However the person I travelled back with and myself both have the feeling of having spent time in a smoky pub or having smoked 4 or 5 cigarettes. Is this very mild CV?
I'm more lethargic than normal, doing odd jobs around the house and garden, but there is something about getting up and out that galvanises me. I haven't got that. Aim to do a bit more tomorrow when DH comes back from travelling in Europe.
I actually feel I'm safe indoors, it will be 10 days before I go back to work. I wouldn't want to be at work on Monday in a customer facing job. I wouldn't want to be shopping in the supermarket. The one and only good thing Brexit has done for me personally is that I've stockpiled on my supply cupboards.

FrangipaniBlue · 14/03/2020 19:46

We're on day 1 in the Frangipani house.

It's DS(12) that has it (we think) so me and DH are holing up with him, I think it's inevitable that I'll get it as I have asthma, had pneumonia a few year back and I'm prone to chest infections Sad

He was sent home from school yesterday complaining of a headache and tummy ache (but not sick and he's still eating me out of house and home) but that developed into a headache, stiff neck/pain between his shoulders, general lethargy, pale and clammy with flushed cheeks, and barking cough.

No temp really though, went up to 37.2 (from 36.3) but went back down when I gave him ibuprofen

RomeoLikedCapuletGirls · 14/03/2020 19:50

Oh thank goodness for this thread. I feel like shit. Have some symptoms not all but feel aching, shivering and blocked up with sore throat, headache and stomachache.

I had all these ideas of the marvellous things I would in self-isolation but feel too shit to do anything but listen to audible/ watch Netflix and now have content overload.

Come on immune system! You can do it !

FreakForHummous · 14/03/2020 19:51

DS is still feeling the same, no better but no worse thankfully. I feel a bit brighter today and have spoken to family and had supplies delivered to the doorstep by my friend including a lovely bunch of flowers which cheered me up Smile

I'm glad you are feeling better @Liveinside

Sorry to hear that you are feeling rubbish @JustUrggghhhh. I was surprised how much I've missed social contact, it just shows how important it is and it's been a real eye opener for me. I hope you can rest up and that you start to feel better soon.

JustUrggghhhh · 15/03/2020 12:42

Pulled on my big girls pants today (actually I lie, I'm still in my pjs). Struggling still with cough and the headache is getting worse. Didnt sleep well. Disturbed by my cough and it seems my eldest DCs seasonal hayfever nosebleeds have started as there were 2 during the night. Scavenging now for antihistamines, have found a few spare ones tucked in a drawer and my mums out looking for more.

My energy levels are still low. I cant do much of anything right now. Boiling the kettle to make a cup of tea is about my limit.

Hows everyone doing today? Noticed some newcomers to the thread which I will catch up on whilst I'm resting after making my next cup of tea!! What's everyone doing to keep their minds busy please? I need some ideas.

@Snaptheirfingers I mean I don’t know whether I have it or not but my main symptom was a tight chest, exhaustion and mild temperature that’s gone up and down a bit. I feel like I did The morning after when I used to chain smoke 20 cigarettes on a night out!

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 13:55

I feel ok today but my temp has gone back up....what’s that about?

Rollinghillside · 15/03/2020 14:01

Checking in on Day 1. Mild cough started yesterday - no phlegmy stuff. Feel like my lungs are constantly itchy - I'm more aware of that than a cough.

No fever, but feeling very cold and tired each afternoon and sleeping with a hot water bottle.

I'm a teacher and do NOT want to be the person to potentially infect 2000+ kids in a large secondary. However, the guilt at staying off when I'm not feeling desperately unwell is all-consuming.

Lcw29 · 15/03/2020 14:02

Well we are on day 2. Started symptoms yesterday for my son who is 2years old. High fever. Cough. Under the weather. At one point his temp was 40.3! Thankfully has come down to under 38 now.

Confused though... my mum stayed over all last week and went home Friday evening. Shes meant to be back today as I've had a c section and need the help with my 2 boys. She says shes happy to isolate with us but what do I do? Need the help but is it against advice?

chillychicken · 15/03/2020 14:10

Checking in.
Day 1 for me. Late last night I started coughing. No temp yet, no coughing through the night but on waking this morning it started again. My chest feels tight, my windpipe feels like it’s burning and I’m coughing regularly. I have a mild headache.

DH thinks this is all in my head and I’m wondering if he’s right?

MajesticWhine · 15/03/2020 14:12

Hi everyone. Day 1 for me, i just have a fever.
@chillychicken I think my family also think it's all in my mind. Because I have been very stressed. But I am not sure stress can cause a temperature Confused

chillychicken · 15/03/2020 14:13

I’m quite tired and breathless too at times and at other times, I have a reasonable amount of energy.

chillychicken · 15/03/2020 14:14

I almost want a temperature majestic, just so my DH believes me 🙄

wildcherries · 15/03/2020 14:15

Day 7. But day 3 of two weeks national lockdown. Yesterday I lost it and cried for an hour or something. Better today because I've put a news ban on myself. But I'm realising how lonely and alone I really am. Resolved to start writing it all down from tomorrow. Will keep me going, I think.

JustUrggghhhh · 15/03/2020 16:29

Welcome to everyone just joining us. Lots of similar symptoms mentioned. I think the up and down temp seems to be the norm of what's going around, be it corona virus or flu. I still cant decide which I have as everytime I read something my self diagnosis is different!

@wildcherries where abouts are you if you dont mind me asking?

I'm on day 3 of self isolation having come home from work on Friday morning with a headache and a tight chest. I worked from home till 4 then started to feel worse. My temperature was 38.9 but I felt I had all the symptoms of a bad cold rather than anything else. I went to bed early and got up at 2PM on Saturday. I had chills during the night and a minor upset stomach. Temperature was still high and I had zero energy. Any cough I have had has actually been quite chesty which I though was encouraging until I saw the lady on the cruise ship also had the chesty version.
This morning I woke up feeling quite a lot better and my temperature is back to 37.6. The cough is not very frequent but is turning drier. My energy levels are much better but still not good so I have spent the afternoon with Netflix. DH is doing a marvellous job looking after me.
I have no idea if I just have/had a cold or flu or coronavirus but I'm at home for the week now. Do any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 18:17

My symptoms by day were
Monday - suddenly got incredibly tired and just felt ‘shit’
Tuesday - headache, exhaustion, upset stomach (mild)
Wednesday - headache, slight temp, tight chest
Thursday - same
Friday - just tight chest and mild cough although still tired
Saturday - tight chest, mild cough
Sunday - tight chest, mild cough and temp again!

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 18:18

Number 1 symptom has been exhaustion

It’s definitely not flu - nowhere near as bad

wildcherries · 15/03/2020 18:41

I'm in Denmark. Self-isolated last Sunday due to flu symptoms. That's the advice here, and my close relatives are in the high-risk group. I couldn't take the risk. Then Friday the lockdown went into effect. Borders closed yesterday until 13 April.

wheresmymojo · 15/03/2020 19:04

Important - Dont take ibuprofen or anti inflammatories

If you think there is any chance you might have CV.

JustUrggghhhh · 15/03/2020 19:38

Thanks for the info @wheresmymojo

Too late for me as I already took them but it may help someone else. I will pass the info to my nearest and dearest too!

My temp is going up and down but never very high - anyone else having this?

Varying between 37.5-38.2

MajesticWhine · 15/03/2020 20:01

Mine has varied between 37.5 and 38.5 today.
I have taken paracetamol though, and I guess that accounts for some of the variation.
