Self isolation support thread

Apologies if a thread on this has already been started. Had a look but cant see anything glaringly obvious.

Thought I would start a self isolation support thread to stop those in isolation from going stir crazy.

I am on day 1 of self isolation. I have had mild manageable symptoms of various things slowly creeping up on me all week. But last night my temp reached high numbers and I'm now coughing have consulted work and I must stay away for 7 days. Kids wont be at school either as they have told me to keep them home. They both have mild coughs and I was struggling to get my head around the logistics of getting them to school.

I have found the whole week very strange. Not knowing when I need to panic. I suffer with chest infections when I get run down anyway so the symptoms are all similar. Have also had full blown flu a few times and again the symptoms are similar. Everything feels too vague, no one knows anything for sure and I feel like it's such a weird time to be living in.

Please post here if you are self isolating to keep me company. I'm really gonna miss work as I work with the the most fantastic people! No doubt the kids are gonna drive me crackers too as whilst they are pleased they get a week off school they have realised they will be missing all their extra clubs etc.

Thank you!

Another dumb question- I'm sorry...

When my isolation is over, does that make me immune? I'd really like to volunteer to take cans/packets to people still in isolation?

MajesticWhine · 16/03/2020 23:51

@sluj - in same situation, DD wants to come home from uni. I have gently suggested to her she might be safer where she is - but clearly I am not going to ban her from home.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 17/03/2020 06:12

Good morning fellow viruswarriors! Hope everyone is as well as they can be!

I'm really not looking forward to waking my DS' up and telling them they're not going to school.

WoollyFoolly · 17/03/2020 08:13

Morning. Everything seems so surreal. I still have a bit of a cough but we are all in isolation. I wonder how any company can keep going through this (not supermarkets!)? The government seem to be doing bugger all to support companies for now.

Unfortunately we won't know as we haven't been tested. We will never know if we have had the virus or just a cold. I'm in the same position, I could be really useful at work with our elderly communities but despite the self isolation I can't say if I have had it or not .

ShrimpyTheGnome · 17/03/2020 08:21

Woolly I'm so sorry you feel rough today! It sucks, doesn't it?

I'm using my lucid moments to organize the house. The DC are on unlimited screen time atm.

Am I right in tthinking they can go to the park as long as they keep away from other kids?

ShrimpyTheGnome · 17/03/2020 08:23

sluj this actually guts me more than most things about this!

I'm lucky- my kids have been young Carers from an early age (I'm VI and have all manner of other shit wrong). Others are alone. I'm worried about the MH of those who rely on visitors to get them through the day.

JustUrggghhhh · 17/03/2020 11:37

Hey all. Woke up with the headache from hell again. Every god damned morning and I'm sick of it. It's like I have a really bad hangover minus any fun the night before. Have an overwhelming urge to stick my head in the sand. The odd message from friends keeping me going as they have slowly realised we arent around much at the mo. Kids school are arranging to send work home as both kids in SAT years. Fed up of this already. I'm getting great enjoyment at hanging out washing at the moment as it's the only thing that seems normal right now!

day 9 and I think i'm better! Moving out of self isolation. Going to take a walk....

ShrimpyTheGnome · 17/03/2020 12:07

Just 💕💕💕💕💕

Hang on in there. You got this. Handholding.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 17/03/2020 12:08

Well I'm watching Stephen King's "The Stand". It seems fitting for my totally inappropriate sense of humor 😂

serialtester · 17/03/2020 12:14

Day 3 here. I have the cough, tight chest, throat, Temp and aches.

Today I've actually got dressed!

Like others it all feels surreal!

neveradullmoment99 · 17/03/2020 12:14

I am confused too. I am on day 6 of isolation. My kids and dh are not in isolation but when do I go back? Is it at the end of the 7 days for me? Is it not 14 days for everyone including me? I posted a thread but still very unclear. Thought Id post here as some must be in the same situation as me.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/03/2020 12:15

Sorry that should have said that my family are in isolation now for 14 days but does that include me?

neveradullmoment99 · 17/03/2020 12:16

Or do I go back at the end of my 7 days?

JustUrggghhhh · 17/03/2020 19:32

I've been told by my employer and kids school to stay away for 14 days from the outset of my symptoms. Kids coughs started 24 hours later anyway so we should be covered. The advice is utterly stupid and, I find, very confusing. I'm just glad I have sensible establishments around me who just want us to stay away and will support that!

How are you feeling now?

Whattheduck · 17/03/2020 19:47

Dd was sent home from school with a sore throat but no other symptoms (she does suffer a lot with her throat so not unusual) but now she has a temperature so will be isolating from now
I will need to call work in the morning to let them know I’ll be off (I work in the nhs admin)

JustUrggghhhh · 17/03/2020 20:28

@shrimpythegnome I still have tight chest, cough and that damn headache. The headache lifts for a few hours in the afternoon then it's back again. Definitely worse when I wake up though.

My mood is low, I struggle with anxiety and depression and cope by planning nice things to look forward to. Friend has just cancelled her daughters birthday party that we were meant to be going to as numbers are dropping and my sisters celebration in April for her birthday how now been cancelled too (we were seeing her favourite artist).

There just doesnt seem to be anything to look forward too now for a long time and I'm feeling rather glum. I need to revisit some techniques I learnt in CBT recently so I guess that will at least give me something to do!

How are you doing?

OP posts:
Cailleach · 17/03/2020 20:43

Quite breathless still, chest very tight - temperature is ok now though.

Anyone feeling nauseous with this? My cough isn't severe but when I start coughing I honestly feel like I could throw up.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 17/03/2020 20:45

I'm bearing up. Feeling a little ropey- but it's manageable.

I've added a fuckload of true crime/trashy TV to my Prime watch list. I'm trying to take advantage of the fact that I can't rush around atm, by doing things I wouldn't usually be assed to do- a proper body moisturise, hair mask etc. Usually I wouldn't find the time to do that sort or thing for myself.

YellowPirate · 17/03/2020 23:10

Hi everyone. I thought I'd sussed this...but the information on the Gov website is so contradictory.

I thought we were all in it for 14 days (husband had symptoms 6 days ago, cleared up on Saturday). However, the gov website section on ending isolation clearly says that the person displaying symptoms only needs to isolate for 7 days, and the rest of the household for 14. "After 7 days, if the first person to become ill feels better and no longer has a high temperature, they can return to their normal routine. " I was so sure it was 14 for all of us but this says 7 for him and 14 for us. Have I got it right? X

ShrimpyTheGnome · 17/03/2020 23:44

I think the general advice is the 7/14 thing. I've worked out that I started with the symptoms on Thursday, so technically, by the day after tomorrow I'll be out of isolation. My DC will be out of isolation a week on Thursday.

JustUrggghhhh · 17/03/2020 23:55

This is why I'm thankful my employer and the kids school are just saying 14 days full stop. No ifs no buts! I have an accounting background in my previous life (before kids), I also did sick pay & entitlement for universities and local government and I still cant make any sense of the 7/14 rule. It makes my headache even worse!
