Self isolation support thread

Apologies if a thread on this has already been started. Had a look but cant see anything glaringly obvious.

Thought I would start a self isolation support thread to stop those in isolation from going stir crazy.

I am on day 1 of self isolation. I have had mild manageable symptoms of various things slowly creeping up on me all week. But last night my temp reached high numbers and I'm now coughing have consulted work and I must stay away for 7 days. Kids wont be at school either as they have told me to keep them home. They both have mild coughs and I was struggling to get my head around the logistics of getting them to school.

I have found the whole week very strange. Not knowing when I need to panic. I suffer with chest infections when I get run down anyway so the symptoms are all similar. Have also had full blown flu a few times and again the symptoms are similar. Everything feels too vague, no one knows anything for sure and I feel like it's such a weird time to be living in.

Please post here if you are self isolating to keep me company. I'm really gonna miss work as I work with the the most fantastic people! No doubt the kids are gonna drive me crackers too as whilst they are pleased they get a week off school they have realised they will be missing all their extra clubs etc.

ShrimpyTheGnome Thank you very much, so kind. Please feel free also. I check MN regularly during the day. I hope you (and everyone on the thread) feel better very soon.

You're right, of course - food is important. I have eaten lunch and will remind myself to eat even though I don't feel hunger. I can't afford to slide back into harmful patterns.

Strongmummy · 16/03/2020 12:33

@ShrimpyTheGnome I didn’t feel like eating at all, so I’m afraid I don’t agree. It’s essential to keep fluids up.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 13:04

strong the reason it's so important to me is because of self preservation and avoiding a downward spiral. I guess its different for everyone. Hope you've got your appetite back now though! 💕

JustUrggghhhh · 16/03/2020 13:21

Lack of appetite here too. As someone who has problems with binge eating I am finding this symptom grounding. I am thinking carefully about what I eat as it takes effort to prepare and actually eat. DH is a fantastic cook and we have had some lovely good home cooked meals by him recently. I take comfort that if I dont eat much during the day I get a good meal each evening. I am definitely enjoying the simplicity of toast fruit and soup at the minute.

@eebahgumlass the continuous cough to me means regular coughing during the day and night. Not just a clear your throat type cough. All ours here are quite deep and theres not much controlling it. I am willing there to be phlegm at some point as the dryness of each cough is awful.

Are you all familiar with Dr John Campbell? He's been the fastest source of reliable information. He posts every day.

He told us yesterday not to take paracetamol and ibuprofen type medicines.

Also that vitamin D supports good respiratory function. Needs to be at least 25 microns, not the smaller multivit dose.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 13:34

Thank God for Amazon Prime video! 😂

Elephantgrey · 16/03/2020 13:46

I am also self isolating with a toddler (I am a single mum). I felt really unwell last week but did not connect it with Coronovirus as I had an upset stomach d and v and high temperature. I did have a an occasional cough.
I felt better for a day or so now my headache and joint pain is back with a tightness in my chest. Is this it?

The little one has a cough sore throat and runny nose. Has had high temperature but coming down now.

I’m scared that I will be stuck here for months and we will go into lockdown when we are still self isolating and can’t go and stay with family for support. I really hope my shopping order is not cancelled as we have no family nearby to bring food.

Strongmummy · 16/03/2020 13:57

@ShrimpyTheGnome I’m sorry, I hadn’t realised. Life can be tough. I’m sending positivity !

Ps I’ve just eaten my own body weight in marshmallows so yes, my appetite is back

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 14:01

Strong sorry for what? Please don't apologize! It's actually playing havoc with my OCD too 🙈😂 (I shouldn't laugh)

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 14:03

My appetite has been down but I have been hungry and eating. Weirdly not in the evening. And I have no desire for sweet things. Not sure that’s a major symptom though!

Strongmummy · 16/03/2020 14:04

@shrimpythegnome I hope you didn’t think I was being abrupt. I have ocd as well, but not over cleanliness. I have intrusive thoughts and this situation is making them difficult to control.

Strongmummy · 16/03/2020 14:05

@picklemewalnuts I think paracetamol was ok , but NSAIDs like ibuprofen could not be helpful to infection. He’s great.

SugarSugarShimmy · 16/03/2020 14:07

@picklemewalnuts there is no issue at all with paracetamol.

No actual proven issue with ibuprofen either

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 14:10

Not abrupt at all!

Intrusive thoughts suck donkey balls. I actually feel that this will be almost as damaging to the MH of some as to their physical health.

Ah well! I'm happy to take on the role of Rentaclown on here! Every tribe needs an idiot...looks like you guys just found yours!

You know it's bad when there's some crap about barges on the TV and you leave it on because actually getting up to change the channel needs to be scheduled in advance. I'm penciling it in for Wednesday some time in 2023! 😂

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 14:11

Oh...and I'm handholding. As well as being a jackass. Mainly being a jackass though.

BelfryBat · 16/03/2020 14:18

I've seen a virus expert on Twitter saying that Ibuprofen is a bad thing to take. As I understand it, paracetamol is ok.

I'm self-isolating partly because I've had a virus that I don't think is Coronavirus for the past few days, partly because I don't want to get it while the NHS is swamped because I have asthma. So on day 2 of sitting indoors. At least I've got you lot and a cat for company.

Bioprepper · 16/03/2020 14:29

We’ve just been advised to self isolate as DH and two of our 4 kids have complex medical issues. It’s quite a rare condition so revealing will be quite outing.

I can work from home and so can DH but I’m Not looking forward to the kids arguing by lunch time tomorrow. I have all these plans for ‘home school’ but that will go to shit by Friday when I can’t cope! Note to self - go buy more booze!

WoollyFoolly · 16/03/2020 14:35

I'm on my first day of self-isolation. My only symptom so far is the dry dry cough and tight painful chest. I'm fairly prone to chest infections and it feels like the start of one if those. I vary between feeling absolutely fine and wondering what I'm doing here to fear that I may pass it on (May have already passed it on) to my asthmatic Dd.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 14:44

Woolly no guilt...you weren't to know.

I made the mistake of burning sweet orange and lemon oils to lift my spirits. Now I just want to clean! 😂

JustUrggghhhh · 16/03/2020 17:06

So our isolation has just been extended to 14 days and the whole house needs to isolate! I'm dreading telling the kids and DH.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 17:16

Oh fuck a moose...handholding.

sluj · 16/03/2020 17:25

I'm self isolating since Friday but if DH gets it now, does the 14 days start again, and so on down the family unit?

WoollyFoolly · 16/03/2020 17:26

Yep just seen that. I'm torn between being thankful they finally seem to be implementing things at the same level as the rest of the world and slightly gutted that now everyone else in the family has to be in the same boat. It seems sensible though, given both me and one of my DDs already have the cough, what are the chances the others won't also come down with it in the next few days?

JustUrggghhhh · 16/03/2020 17:30

My eldest has had a cough all the time I have been off but has taken a turn for the worst today. I guess this is why they are now saying 14 days to cover everyone in the family taking a down turn?!?!

OP posts:
JustUrggghhhh · 16/03/2020 17:38

@sluj my understanding is the 2 weeks should cover everyone falling ill. My isolation started on Friday I was due back to work on Friday. Under this advice we will all go back to work/school we will be back now a week on Friday?!?! But I'm not an expert and trying to clarify this at the mo with my employer & kids school.

I cant see schools staying open at this rate though to be honest as staff and kids missing left right and centre. I am praying we just close early for Easter and give us all some distance for a while!
