Self isolation support thread

Apologies if a thread on this has already been started. Had a look but cant see anything glaringly obvious.

Thought I would start a self isolation support thread to stop those in isolation from going stir crazy.

I am on day 1 of self isolation. I have had mild manageable symptoms of various things slowly creeping up on me all week. But last night my temp reached high numbers and I'm now coughing have consulted work and I must stay away for 7 days. Kids wont be at school either as they have told me to keep them home. They both have mild coughs and I was struggling to get my head around the logistics of getting them to school.

I have found the whole week very strange. Not knowing when I need to panic. I suffer with chest infections when I get run down anyway so the symptoms are all similar. Have also had full blown flu a few times and again the symptoms are similar. Everything feels too vague, no one knows anything for sure and I feel like it's such a weird time to be living in.

Please post here if you are self isolating to keep me company. I'm really gonna miss work as I work with the the most fantastic people! No doubt the kids are gonna drive me crackers too as whilst they are pleased they get a week off school they have realised they will be missing all their extra clubs etc.

My symptoms

Monday - felt tired, run down but nothing specific.
Tuesday - tired, temp hit 39 but felt fine by bed time.
Wednesday - actually felt ok and went to work, felt off it by bedtime.
Thursday - felt ok again then by 6pm in bed with temp back at 39.
Friday - temp up and down all day, cough developed, headache started.
Saturday - chest hurts, cough worse and so is headache.
Sunday - still have a cough but headache has eased gradually today and so has the chest pain. Still tired but can actually do something today!

Sounds like an intermittent temp is a common theme.

When I’ve had flu in the past it’s been continuous and very high for a couple of days then goes down. This is never very high but up and down

hollytom · 15/03/2020 20:25

I think I have it but I’m not sure. I woke up yesterday feeling exhausted then I started feeling hot. However when I’ve taken my temperature it’s only gone above 37.5 once.
The main symptom I have today is a tight chest I feel like I’ve got a weight pressing down on it. A little bit of coughing but not constant. I’m not sure but I’m self isolating especially as my DH is diabetic

Rollinghillside · 15/03/2020 20:28

My temp has been consistently 37.5. Feeling a touch achey around the edges now.

Does anyone's cough or chest feel worse in the evening?

Liveinside · 15/03/2020 21:18

@hollytom many people seem to have mild temperatures. I have the weight thing. Like I’ve smoked 50 cigarettes! I feel like I want to cough something up but if I do cough it’s just dry

Rollinghillside · 15/03/2020 22:45

I am more achey. Why am I more achey.

hollytom · 16/03/2020 08:44

Yes the tight chest is the worst symptom for me. Never smoked so don’t know what that feels like!

Lcw29 · 16/03/2020 09:11

Well my son is now back to normal except a cough once in awhile . Its day 3. Fever gone. No longer lethargic.

Is this typical?

I've been sniffly today but apparently that's not a symptom?

I’m only going out once a day for a walk around the park and have stopped doing everything else. I was off work anyway as I’m waiting for heart surgery (urgent, but because I am stable and the hospital are only doing emergencies I am now in limbo).

I’m pretty scared because I am very high risk.

Yesterday was my birthday and my partner had booked a lovely surprise lunch at a Michelin starred restaurant. It was fabulous, but now I am wondering whether it was a mistake. Although I did manage to try a couple of things that I wanted to (kind of a foodie bucket list!) and they were fantastic - a souffle (Wow!) and fresh Winter Black truffle (bit of a disappointment, but at least I’ve tried it!)

Its strange how little things are so pleasing at the moment. I can’t enough of just watching the clouds, the birds, and really focussing on the taste of things when I eat. Life suddenly seems so simple!

WrongKindOfFace · 16/03/2020 09:27

I’m bored and feeling guilty for not being at work. I’m ok, but off with a coughing child.

I think it was the OP who wanted antihistamines? You can buy a year’s’ supply on eBay for about £6.

WrongKindOfFace · 16/03/2020 09:28

I have plenty of jobs I could be doing around the house but can’t find the motivation just yet.

MajesticWhine · 16/03/2020 10:59

Temperature down today, and apart from feeling a bit shaky I feel better. And I feel like a bit of a twerp now for self isolating but I will plod on.

sluj · 16/03/2020 11:03

I have a bit of breathlessness and a very dry mouth. Still very little energy but also feeling guilty about not working. Half of my team are in self isolation now so either we all have the coronavirus or we all share a bad cold

Strongmummy · 16/03/2020 11:12

My self isolation ends tomorrow - hooray! Although I’m now nervous about leaving the house as I don’t want to get Ill again.

butterflylove81 · 16/03/2020 11:13

I am very low in energy I'm 7-8 weeks pregnant started with a mystery illness last Thursday have diabetes had a bit of a hypo then slight diarrhoea didn't know if it was nerves of the hypo but totally exhausted since mild temp thurs fri but hit above 38 on sat night. I then had the mildest of coughs a bit tickley gone now I was so unsure what it was. I'm self isolating I did have to see to a doctor on advice of maternity as they wanted to exclude me for other things uti etc they were being cautious as I was pregnant but he then said to stay at home for 7 days however it doesn't really feel respiratory. I think it's best to be safe and isolate but I'm not sure really what was wrong with me

Rollinghillside · 16/03/2020 11:18

My boss is clarifying that I need a cough and a fever to be off. I only have/had the cough. I'm so conflicted and awaiting a gp callback.

FrangipaniBlue · 16/03/2020 11:47

NHS website is pretty clear that its temperature OR cough, your boss is being a twerp, send him a screenshot!

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 11:47

Day one here. Woke up with a headache, temperature and slight cough.

I have asthma and also anorexia, so my immune system will be shite.

I'm trying to fight appetite loss atm- that shit could trigger me into a downward spiral.

wildcherries · 16/03/2020 11:51

Yes to the loss of appetite. I need to push through that as well.

ShrimpyTheGnome · 16/03/2020 12:00

wild remember food is essential for helping us shake this.

I'm a little woolly headed atm due to the temperature, but feel free to PM if you need a handhold.

Eebahgumlass · 16/03/2020 12:02

Hello, can I get some advice, please? My daughter had a sore throat but no temperature, she has now started with a cough. I understand this means she has to self isolate even though she has no temperature. I think my other daughter and I also have the same thing brewing as we also have sore throats. Should we all self-isolate? It is going to be quite difficult to keep the children away from one another.

JustUrggghhhh · 16/03/2020 12:06

Hey everyone. My bloody headache is back. I can cope with the other symptoms but the headache is making me feel very precious. I am struggling standing up with the throbbing.

Advice is a new cough OR temp NOT necessarily both. Your boss is being an arse hole and in wish their was prison capacity for these idiots!

We are managing the best we can blindly. With lack of testing I can see people will bend the advice for their own gain. But stand firm!! Thankfully my employer was sympathetic when I let them know I had a temp. I offered to see how I went they told me regardless - even if I felt better they weren't letting me in!

I managed to find antihistamines thank you on amazon! So much for supporting small shops and businesses - my local ones haven't had decent anthistimes supplies since brexit. Needs must in this case.

Hi to everyone who has joined us, feel a little less isolated checking in today!

Does anyone know what time the government update will be today?

JustUrggghhhh · 16/03/2020 12:11

@eehbahgumlass official guidelines seem to be that the person who is poorly should isolate and that everyone else can go about their business. My employer however has taken the stance that if one is out all is out so to speak. My kids school told me to keep them at home. (I will admit though that my job and my kids school are linked so it's not a surprise they both take the same attitude). I think it wouldn't harm if you can all self isolate without too many problems. My biggest struggle was getting my head around a school run knowing I wasnt allowed myself to leave the house. As it turns out DH now has to work from home for the immediate future.

Eebahgumlass · 16/03/2020 12:13

Thank you @justurggghhhh . We will likely do the same. What is confusing me is this reference to a 'new, continuous cough' . What does continuous actually mean?
