Wondering if it’s someone who’s started it to force the government’s hand or whether it’s actually true....

Will be interested to see if other countries follow suit now it has been declared a pandemic

The main effect of declaring a pandemic is administrative - it releases UN money to developing countries to support their health systems. It doesn't make one iota of difference to medical, public health and other aspects of outbreak management by countries

TrainspottingWelsh · 11/03/2020 22:42

Gordon will be starring in his own series of children's books, 'where's Gordon?' The release is being timed to coincide with shutting London down, so everyone can amuse themselves searching for the real Gordon, hidden amongst the sea of Alan Sugars on every page.

Dobbytheelf · 11/03/2020 22:56

Pot are you suggesting that Sir Alan Sugar is dead also? It's too much, not all in one day please!!

HavenDilemma · 11/03/2020 23:00

Alan Sugar was last seen on the dark side of the moon with Lord Lucan.

PicsInRed · 11/03/2020 23:05

Gordon Ramsay was the best of all of us. 😭

StCharlotte · 11/03/2020 23:07

There's a rumour at work that all over 55s will be sent home next week

Ooh I do hope so - I'm 56 Grin

Balkinfly · 11/03/2020 23:08

Neighbours came back from Rome Monday should they be self isolating, or is it only those returning on Tuesday?

PickAChew · 11/03/2020 23:09

A rumour is a rumour. No more than that.

PickAChew · 11/03/2020 23:12

No staying in in the northeast - headed into Newcastle with a big shopping list (Boots were all out of the big tubes of flexitol heel balm, dammit - weirdest panic buying ever?) and the bus both ways was busier than it's been since December.

AlternativePerspective · 11/03/2020 23:14

Firstly no I didn’t make it up, Anyone who has seen any of my posts on any threads will know that I have been very much on the side of not panicking and believing that any kinds of restrictions such as school closures will be detrimental to the economy.

it was actually my eXH who told DS, and he is generally fairly together, added to which his, and many other workplaces in the city are already partially if not completely working from home.

But I’ve just had a notification from sky news And more recently bbc saying that The expectation is that we will move from containment to delay phase after tomorrow’s Cobra meeting.

Thought everyone was talking about Gordon Brown for much of this thread...

Sir Alan Sugar claims to be over 55. But Gordon Ramsey is 53.

Coincidence? I think not!

justasking111 · 11/03/2020 23:24

Well Russia only has 20 cases. I wondered why until I read what precautions they have taken re a timeline since February.

TrainspottingWelsh · 11/03/2020 23:24

If I get to stay at home on full pay I'm willing to identify as over 55.

JanewaysBun · 11/03/2020 23:25

@JustInCaseCakeHappens too high to jump

Have you not seen Spiceworld? They did it with a double decker bus!!!

ViciousJackdaw · 12/03/2020 00:02

An announcement on Sunday? That implies they KNOW something NOW but are choosing not to tell us until Sunday - in three days time.

For all Johnno's faults, surely even he isn't thinking 'Oh well, all these people are going to get ill but hey ho, lets not bother telling then for a couple of days'.

In any case, announcements are made several times a day. I'd put money on there being an announcement on Sunday too. But it's likely to be a statistical update, peppered with some 'attendees of yesterdays cup tie are advised to self-isolate', it won't be anything earth shattering. People don't tend to delay news of an emergency nature until they've had their Sunday fry up.

.........
Me too! A girl after my own heart.
Except I am 70 and retired so it doesn't apply :-).

Please nobody think I am making light of the Coronavirus, I'm really not, I understand how dangerous it is and the implications but the poster's post tickled me. Sometimes you just have to laugh.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/03/2020 00:20

trainspotting me too! I could just claim I've had a lot of botox and just look young for my age, but I'm really 68!

frankie001 · 12/03/2020 00:29

Poor Gordon, now dining for real in Hell’s Kitchen.

hellsbells99 · 12/03/2020 01:59

Perhaps they are waiting until after the Cheltenham races 🤔

Slippersandacuppa · 12/03/2020 02:07

My husband’s American company sent an email out on Sunday evening instructing everyone in the company to work from home, effective immediately. He’s based in London (and comes into contact with waaaaay more people at home!).

Thepigeonsarecoming · 12/03/2020 02:13

Gordon Ramsey (not Brown) made a pie for a friend of a friend last week. Now I’m worried, although more upset that the pie was sh*t

TeaAndDarkToast · 12/03/2020 02:41

Gordon Ramsay is alive and cooking! and cuddling his hoard of gold bouillon Wink

Inkpaperstars · 12/03/2020 03:06

It will seem odd if they suddenly go to strong measures after doing nothing re travel from Italy etc immediately beforehand. However, I think that is what will happen and because of their mistakes over Italy it will happen sooner. I really hope I am wrong but due to exponential growth in cases this will explode soon and they will have no choice. I expect we will be in lockdown within a week at the latest. If we are not, then either something here is very different in a way I don't understand, or we in the UK are heading for the worse scenario yet seen with this.
