Wondering if it’s someone who’s started it to force the government’s hand or whether it’s actually true....

@JesusInTheCabbageVan how?

I'd literally just woken up, fiddling about on my phone and it popped up. Obviously my first thought was to ask Mumsnet.

I got my arse handed to me, I pleaded being half asleep and then dyslexia (true, always misreading things) but was shown no mercy.

FlamingoAndJohn · 11/03/2020 20:09

Is this like when you were a kid and there was a rumour going round school that the kids from a rival school were all coming over for a fight?

MoltonSilver · 11/03/2020 20:10

Any rumour from social media is just bullshit that someone made up.

Bluewavescrashing · 11/03/2020 20:11

Probably a rumour started by people wishing for 2 weeks (or more) off work

I'd much rather go back to normal.

Witchend · 11/03/2020 20:11

I've just tried google searching "London lockdown Sunday" for results in the last 24 hours and have come up with no suggestions matching what you're saying... in fact you're the only one who comes up with this.

So for someone who says they don't believe it, you're doing a good job of propagating it.

Discobar · 11/03/2020 20:12

I've posted the link on the first page

Tupperwarelid · 11/03/2020 20:14

I need to know before Sunday if London is going into lockdown. I’m running a half marathon in south west London and need to know whether to carb load the night before or not!

somanydevices · 11/03/2020 20:15

If they were thinking of doing something as extreme as a lockdown, they'd start with sensible measures like closing schools and cancelling large events like Saturday's sporting fixtures e.g. Wales vs Scotland rugby match.

They're not doing those things (and I think they should be tbh). Jumping to lockdown when they have no interest in doing these things.

It's bullshit. Stop spreading it.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 11/03/2020 20:15

I once (accidentally) started a rumour on here that Gordon Ramsey had died... he hadn't.

Grin

oh please tell us more!

Doggodogington · 11/03/2020 20:15

Well of course it would be London, nowhere else exists outside of London.

somanydevices · 11/03/2020 20:16

Missing half a sentence there!

Jumping to lockdown when they have no interest in doing these things would be insane. It's not happening.

NotTerfNorCis · 11/03/2020 20:17

I know some who knows someone who knows someone who works in government, and they say we'll be in lockdown in 7 - 10 days.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 11/03/2020 20:17

There's always a rumour going round about London, when it's not terrorist attacks, a VIP royal death bringing things to a standstill, to covid19.

We were due one, must have been a good week since the last one!

Just leave the train operators running wild, they tend to do a very good job blocking the capital...

YakkityYakYakYak · 11/03/2020 20:17

I feel like if a whole city needed to be “locked down” (whatever that even means), they wouldn’t decide to do it in a few days time, there would be more urgency surely.

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 11/03/2020 20:20

Surely a JOURNALIST from the times knows what type of reaction a tweet like that would get?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 11/03/2020 20:20

Well of course it would be London, nowhere else exists outside of London.

not true, there's Windsor, Heathrow. And Brighton? Grin

Dobbytheelf · 11/03/2020 20:20

Omg, Gordon Ramsey's dead?!?! I can't believe it SadSad

viques · 11/03/2020 20:20

Would have made more sense to make the decision to close down Cheltenham Festival or Crufts. THousands of people coming together from all over the country , coughing over each other then dispersing around the country like little infection bombs. What are they going to do? Barbed wire around the M25?

Timefor45 · 11/03/2020 20:20

I heard it was going in to lockdown tomorrow?

No, not really, but I’m free to type that and start the rumour if I wished.
Social media is NOT a reliable news source.

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 11/03/2020 20:21

Screen shot and post the ‘rumour’ you saw.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/03/2020 20:22

"A rumour on social media". This means it is categorically untrue.

XingMing · 11/03/2020 20:22

Are you starting the rumour? Because it's irresponsible if you are.

EssentialHummus · 11/03/2020 20:22

I'm another one who looks at Crufts, Cheltenham, Liverpool football and doesn't see signs of an imminent lockdown. Also - how? We're not China. You can just issue an edict for everyone to stay at home and hope they comply.

dementedma · 11/03/2020 20:23

Ahhhh, everyone’s favourite word - lockdown! Whatever did we use before it became the go to phrase of the media?

anappleadaykeeps · 11/03/2020 20:23

I've heard that Year 6 SATS are going to be cancelled.
