Wondering if it’s someone who’s started it to force the government’s hand or whether it’s actually true....

Rumours are easy to start

Doyoumind · 11/03/2020 19:44

I take rumours on social media with a pinch of salt. It will happen if it's deemed the right thing to do.

BlackWhitePurple · 11/03/2020 19:45

Sounds like the kind of thing that circulates on Social Media when there's a nation-wide Thing happening... I wouldn't take it too seriously, though it's not impossible.

AlternativePerspective · 11/03/2020 19:46

Well nnnnnnno. I am very much of the don’t panic school of thought as it is.

Why would London go into "lockdown"
Whatever lockdown means

Why not Manchester or Birmingham?

iVampire · 11/03/2020 19:48

There are going to be further measures announced - there have been what are essentially trailers from official sources, saying that the ‘at risk’ population will be urged to go in for at least social distancing, if not full self-isolation; anyone with a cough/cold/other respiratory symptoms to isolate, possibly some word on cancelling large (indoor?) gatherings.

‘Lockdown’ has no real meaning - but I bet the tabloids will go a bundle on it

stayathomegardener · 11/03/2020 19:48

I once (accidentally) started a rumour on here that Gordon Ramsey had died... he hadn't.

user1480880826 · 11/03/2020 19:50

@Greysparkles maybe because there are considerably more cases in London?

PleasantVille · 11/03/2020 19:51

How would that work? You can't physically stop all movement into or out of anywhere except maybe in China, N Korea or similar.

Sunshine1239 · 11/03/2020 19:52

Hardly

3000 fans just arrived in Liverpool tonight from Madrid which has half of all Spain’s infection cases - proof they’re not even remotely considering lockdown

Teddypops · 11/03/2020 19:53

Is Gordon Ramsey dead? Has he died of Coronavirus??

Wink
AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 11/03/2020 19:55

Someone died in my local hospital from Coronavirus today. There's a rumour at work that all over 55s will be sent home next week - I know that's not true but it's still doing the rounds!

Applejaxx · 11/03/2020 19:56

London is going to lockdown on Sunday or the announcement is on Sunday?

stayathomegardener · 11/03/2020 19:57

Jeeze @Teddypops don't go there!
I had to ask for the original thread to be deleted.

MMHQ were very understanding and said I'd had a change of heart Blush

AlternativePerspective · 11/03/2020 19:58

Well no it’s unlikely the country will go into lockdown in the same way as China/Italy.

They could stop most movement in and out of London though by shutting the M25 and closing off public transport, if they really wanted to.

Doesn't make any sense. Why this be planned four days in advance? Either it's urgent in which case do it now, or it's not, the situation is constantly changing.

Discobar · 11/03/2020 19:59

Times journalist said it on twitter today. There is substance to it

user1497207191 · 11/03/2020 20:00

Do it too early and it won't have the desired effect - you can't have a lock down for too long, so the timing has to be just right to have maximum effect.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/03/2020 20:00

@stayathomegardener Oh now you have to say how!

meemaw12 · 11/03/2020 20:02

Better bloody not be. I've got a trip to london planned for this weekend.

NotJustAnyFucker · 11/03/2020 20:03

There was a rumour this morning that David Attenborough has died, and that was #BULLSHIT too.

DoubleAction · 11/03/2020 20:03

If/when it comes, it won't be immediate. There will have to be time for the chaos in the supermarkets people to prepare.

I doubt it will be as soon as this week though. I think they'll try and hold out until closer to the Easter holidays.

I can't begin to imagine what "lockdown" will look like here.

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/03/2020 20:03

I get the feeling we will be told that the US cases are mainly younger and without pre-existing conditions. A lot of doctors have already confirmed this unofficially.

EricaNernie · 11/03/2020 20:06

i hope not
