Wondering if it’s someone who’s started it to force the government’s hand or whether it’s actually true....

RIP Gordon Sad

aprilhope · 11/03/2020 20:24

Someone put this rumour on another Mumsnet thread earlier. Cue people leaving and possibly spreading the virus elsewhere. A la Italy. So irresponsible.

corvidsagainstcovid · 11/03/2020 20:24

They haven't got the police power to enforce a lock down.

BacklashStarts · 11/03/2020 20:24

Lol at the first few messages to that tweet ‘ London is the engine room of the entire nation’ aye, the rest of us live in muddy puddles and can’t work a tin opener.

‘I know someone who knows someone who works in government’...500,000 people work in government!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 11/03/2020 20:25

500,000 people work in government!

sadly not Gordon anymore Sad
not many people knew about his role there though

MissPoldark · 11/03/2020 20:26

@GrumpyHoonMain

Why do you have “a feeling” and what do you achieve by sharing this?
If you make comments like that, you must back it up with a credible source.
This is already worrying enough without people making unsubstantiated statements like that.

MaidenMotherCrone · 11/03/2020 20:26

He's not dead... the pp said she accidentally stated a rumour. I remember it.

GORDON RAMSEY IS ALIVE

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2020 20:27

Gordon is great. He'll survive all this.
His fully prepped.

Lynda07 · 11/03/2020 20:27

It could happen I suppose but why worry in advance? I will carry on as normal until told otherwise.

A close relative of mine was working in various places throughout Europe. He and colleagues had all dates cancelled in France yesterday and arrived home to the UK this morning. Was due to be in Germany on the 18th but that has been cancelled too. He reckons we will be in lockdown, is not bothered for himself because likes being at home but it will adversely affect a lot of people, especially if they are not paid.

meditrina · 11/03/2020 20:29

There's been another major COBRA meeting today

So some new measures may have been approved, together with what points (case numbers?) trigger them coming into effect.

Announcements pretty soon, I would have thought (because otherwise it'll leak piecemeal from departments).

CherieBabySpliffUp · 11/03/2020 20:30

I wonder if this rumour was started by the person who started the rumour about Prince Philip Grin

Excited101 · 11/03/2020 20:30

Me too Tupperware carb loading is no joke!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 11/03/2020 20:31

Prince Philip is dead too! This is not a good day! Who's next? Trump?!

zonkin · 11/03/2020 20:31

How can you lock down London from a practical point of view? It's densely populated and human nature means that people won't abide strictly by self isolation.

How will lock down be enforced? It's not China or Russia where punishment would be harsh. We simply don't have the resources to force people to stay in and we are a democracy (of sorts!)

minou123 · 11/03/2020 20:31

Ah, that's sad about Gordon

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 11/03/2020 20:32

blow up the bridges.

Update the train timetables.

Done.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/03/2020 20:32

There is no mention of any 'city lockdowns' in the government's plan...

zonkin · 11/03/2020 20:32

Mind you, I wouldn't mind a few weeks of working from home....

BertieBotts · 11/03/2020 20:33

Right, but what I mean is - you're going to know a day or half a day or so in advance, if they decide to close an area. They aren't going to decide it 4 days in advance since this doesn't make any sense. If cases skyrocketed then it would ba happening sooner.

I live in an area that is bordering an area that has just gone into quarantine part way through today. The rumours/rumbles started this morning and it was only totally announced by this evening. (Not UK obviously.)

Clangus00 · 11/03/2020 20:33

@JustInCaseCakeHappens we live in hope.

zonkin · 11/03/2020 20:33

Hmmm, hadn't thought about blowing up the bridges...

Nanalisa60 · 11/03/2020 20:34

Trump!! If only!!

minou123 · 11/03/2020 20:34

Sprinkle a few snowflakes on the ground.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 11/03/2020 20:35

It would be a shame about Tower Bridge though, hope they have a contingency plan....Maybe just leave it opened? Pretty sure it's too wide to jump?

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 11/03/2020 20:35

Calm down everyone

No Gordon Ramsey's were harmed in the making of this rumour
