Travelling, making other decisions around
exposure

read up, noone can decide for you, but be aware...
Your mode of transport (train/boat/plane) is unlikely to be disinfected.
You may not be welcome back at work (forced isolation unpaid because you decided to take risk)
Getting stuck in quarantine in another country, subjected to their health service and govt restrictions on you.
What happens with your dc and school upon return.
Holiday insurance cover?

Positive ways of coping

Exercise daily, out where you won't be in close proximity (greater than 2 metres)

Eat well, healthy foods, plenty of liquid

Include natural antivirals in diet and good levels of daily vit c

Rest

Take steps to address any raised anxiety, above what might be reasonable and normal steps for keeping viral hygiene under control.
Its normal to feel more anxious, and normal to take steps to manage situation by being well prepared.

Isolation Issues

Getting sufficient shopping in on low incomes, and/or vulnerable / already isolated

Keeping on top of KEY METERS - need to top up yet in isolation - what measures are there to help

Paying mortgage/rent (private & housing associations) if not receiving sick pay

Legislation that enforced isolation = sick (for sick pay purposes)

       *********,

Primary mode of transmission is airborne droplets.

Sneeze or cough into elbow (or tissue and bin it). Droplets can travel 2m.

Secondary means of transmission touch.

Hand wash to
Break the transmission cycle from hand to mouth, eyes, nose, or to others, by 20 seconds plus thorough hand washing (soap and water).

Alcohol breaks down the outer layer of virus to effectively kill, other methods may not.
(Anti bacterial does NOT do this and overuse may risk bacterial resistance).

Use 2/3rds vol alcohol to any other additive

Oh my god this whole situation just gets worse. It’s very telling that I have severe anxiety but the primary emotion taking over here is anger. We could have tried to stop it coming to this Sad

brainfogg · 09/03/2020 21:34

And thank you for the threads @usernameishistory
Feeling so helpless tonight and frustrated.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 09/03/2020 21:34

Just to respond to end of last thread. We have NOT all be placed in quarantine.

Bearbehind · 09/03/2020 21:37

We could have tried to stop it coming to this*

How could we have stopped this?

CV is now in 112 out of 195 countries

Italy is in ‘lockdown’ but that doesn’t include travel so people can still fly in and out

The impact of pretty much closing down the economy is catastrophic

Realistically, what could we do any differently?

Coronavirus: British couple on holiday ‘left infections everywhere’
Britons unknowingly passed on virus after contracting it on flight from London to Vietnam

A British couple on holiday in Vietnam have been told they “left infections everywhere” over several days after unknowingly contracting coronavirus from a fellow passenger on their flight from Heathrow.

Graham Craddock, 68, and his wife, Mary, 69, are in quarantine in Hanoi where conditions have been poor at times, with no toilet or hot water, although the couple praised the no-nonsense response of the Vietnamese authorities.

After touching down in Hanoi on 2 March on Vietnam Airlines flight VN54 – where they sat two rows behind the woman, 26, from Hanoi who was carrying the virus – the couple visited attractions in the capital before moving on to Sapa in north-west Vietnam. They were contacted on Saturday and told that someone on their flight had tested positive for coronavirus.

And

The 26-year-old woman from Hanoi had visited London, Milan and Paris, the Vietnamese health ministry said. Vietnam had not had a case for more than three weeks before she tested positive on Thursday and had been praised for its response. On 25 February it announced that all 16 cases in the country had recovered but the number of confirmed cases has now almost doubled to 30, including seven Britons who were on the flight that landed on 2 March.

And

Craddock said the Vietnamese action appeared draconian but was “much better than letting it drift”. However, he expressed dismay that the infected woman on his flight was allowed to travel.

“When we checked in at Heathrow we were asked if we had been near infected people, [or] had we been recently to China, Iran or Italy. We answered no,” he said. “I asked what would have happened if we had [said yes]. We were told we would not be able to board the flight.”

The woman has been named in the Vietnamese press as a wealthy socialite whose 27-year-old chauffeur and 64-year-old aunt have also tested positive. It was reported that she had suffered from a cough and fever before travelling but not at the time of the flight.

Vietnam has temporarily suspended visa-free travel for citizens from eight European countries, including the UK.

Lots of things in there to unpick. Notable that visa free travel from UK to Vietnam now suspended. That's going to wreck a few holidays.

How could we have stopped this?

Has anyone suggested we wash our hands more? Grin

WouldShouldCould · 09/03/2020 21:40

What are people doing with school equipment (planners, pencil cases books etc) mine were doing their homework and I just thought ugggh

brainfogg · 09/03/2020 21:41

@Bearbehind lots of the things that were mentioned on the other thread. Advised people who CAN work from home to do so. Allowed parents to take their kids out of school IF they wanted to without financial repercussions. Advised over 60 year olds to avoid large crowds. Boris could have not gone and publicly shook hands with coronavirus patients. Advised people to not travel at this time unless absolutely necessary. Been honest about what this virus can do to the body. Had a more consistent 111 service that doesn’t tell people to go to the GP. Just a few things that would help delay this so it’s more manageable.

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/03/2020 21:41

Hello all, just caught up on last thread.

NYC has announced it will produce 100, 000 gallons of 75% alcohol hand gel per week because we're running out. It will be sold very cheaply (compared to the brands) to schools, hospitals, etc.

They're using prison labour. I assume they will be paid, albeit a very low wage - need to dig around.

I haven't watched all his latest update yet, but I do feel reassured that Cuomo talks about delaying the peak. It feels like basically everyone is on the same page with that.

Universities including Fordham and Columbia are suspending classes and going online. Schools, if they have a case, are automatically shut for 24 hours for assessment - then they seem to close for longer, a large handful of schools have shut so far.

FlamingoAndJohn · 09/03/2020 21:42

Continuing from the other thread.

I hear you @TheGodWorm.
I run every morning. I rarely meet anyone else because it’s 6am.

The thing is that if we do have such restrictions placed on the U.K. then we will be told what we can or can’t do. There is no point second guessing now.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 09/03/2020 21:42

Bearbehind · 09/03/2020 21:44

brainfog but as has been consistently demonstrated, people generally think all those things are a good idea.........until it inconveniences them

And then they become ‘special’, so decide the rules don’t apply to them

Unless you have a regime like in China, people in the West simply wont respect any ‘lockdown’

peachgreen · 09/03/2020 21:44

That seems like a sensible measure @AbsentmindedWoman.

WorriedAcademic · 09/03/2020 21:45

Ok, so a friend of mine travels the world covering major sporting events.

He checked in at Heathrow this morning to fly to USA to cover a big tennis thing in California. Went through security and got a phone call to say the tennis is cancelled due to coronavirus. So he refused to board and made them find his bag in the hold and remove it so he could come home.

He’s waiting to hear if the Florida tennis is still on at the end of the month. Then numerous other events and the olympics.

He’s self employed, he has no insurance to cover this type of thing so no money coming in!

Horehound · 09/03/2020 21:46

I kinda feel like this thread is full of folk who hate working and want some days off. Kind of like waiting for a snow day, the snow falls all morning and then people are raging because the company hasn't told them to go home yet. ... Grin

Anyway...I read the article about Italy but I didn't get the impression people were still to be working

BigChocFrenzy · 09/03/2020 21:47

The Italian PM said people should not move around apart from for work and emergencies

So most of economic activities will continue
but it's go to work, then straight back home and stay there

Almost all leisure activities closed down, even funeral & wedding events, so not much available to do outside anyway

Certainly sounds like they don't want runners or dog-walkers etc to go out at all
relying on common sense / civic duty ?

Rocketmam · 09/03/2020 21:47

When they first started going on about washing hands it annoyed me. What did they think I'd been doing, rubbing them in shit?

But then I did start to notice a lot if people in public toilets just walking out without even looking at the sink!

The message seems pointless though. The piblic are being told it is all business as usual, so if it wasn't a habit to wash their hands before, why would they start now?

WaterSheep · 09/03/2020 21:49

Bearbehind · 09/03/2020 21:50

The Italian PM said people should not move around apart from for work and emergencies

The massive problem there is the word ‘should’

In China it was ‘must’

‘should’ simply wont cut it
