Hand sanitiser sold out everywhere

I’m absolutely NOT in panic mode about the corona virus. However, I thought it may be sensible to get a couple of bottles of hand sanitiser for the kids to use at school and also for me as I have an Invisalign brace and do have to put my fingers in my mouth when out and about to remove it to eat when on the go if I don’t have access to wash facilities.
But it is sold out everywhere or charging crazy prices online. I suppose everyone else has had the same idea but I also expect there are a few panic buyers out there.
Do you think this will all calm down soon?

Shouldn’t laugh - but what a jobsworth at Boots! Some people wouldn’t have a clue what to do with any real responsibility Grin

I was in my local small asda and it wasnt just gel that was out of stock. There were very few bottles of handwash left either

AdoraBell · 03/03/2020 15:47

None in Boots where I am, notices on the empty shelves saying it’s limited to 2 bottles per person. I did find surgical spirit though, and after sun gel, so I can make my own.

I don’t usually use it and thoroughly wash my hands with soap, so this will just be for a back up.

Axlcat · 03/03/2020 15:57

@FireflyAurora use soap when you are out and about? On public transport? How?

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 03/03/2020 16:02

This week my workplace has carefully put up signs above all the basins explainig how to wash our hands properly. Now, if they'd just fill the soap dispensers.....

PinkCrayon · 03/03/2020 16:07

They were sold out yesterday when I went after only wanting them for my kids for school. Apparently people were buying 10 at a time, the shop assistant was saying how greedy people are have to agree totally selfishHmm thanks to people for putting up how to make some think I will give it a go.

Nicknacky · 03/03/2020 16:57

Has anyone any idea what time of day is best to catch stock after a delivery?

Lordfrontpaw · 03/03/2020 17:04

Ask the store. Our local ones get deliveries between 8-9 and they go like hot cakes.

Lordfrontpaw · 03/03/2020 17:07

If you go to Superdrug website apparently you can click on an ‘alert me when it’s in store’ on any item and you get a notification. Of course you might need to run like mad!

twosoups1972 · 03/03/2020 17:12

Thank you @Cwenthryth I’ll make sure she moisturises well.

BrieAndChilli · 03/03/2020 17:17

@twosoups1972

Child’s farm hand moisturiser is good. DS1 has a habit of over washing hands like he’s scrubbing up for surgery and some soaps make his hands go all dry and cracked. Since I put this by the sink for him to use after washing hands his skin has been fine

Robuns · 03/03/2020 17:26

@twosoups1972 the only one which doesn't irritate my hand is the cucumber cuticura, but obviously getting a specific brand at the moment would be like gold dust! In lieu of that as has been said child's farm is great, and aqueous overnight (bit greasy to use during the day).

twosoups1972 · 03/03/2020 17:27

Thank you @BrieandChilli will get some. At least he’s washing his hands well. Does he turn off the tap with his elbow? Grin

Nat6999 · 03/03/2020 17:34

Pound shops & places like B & M, Home Bargains & Wilkinsons would be your best bet.

Fev11 · 03/03/2020 17:46

Brie and chilli- I’ve just re-read your post and realised that you Don’t have special moisturiser designed for young farmhands after all. I thought it was a bit niche 😂.
(In my defence we’re rural)

SouthWestmom · 03/03/2020 17:55

I tried ten shops today! None at all anywhere. Boots basically laughed in my face and told me to be there at 8am as it all goes by 9!

middleager · 03/03/2020 18:15

I got a couple in B&M last week (last 2).
Last Mon I put 2 in my Tesco order successfully. By the Thus when it was delivered the items had been substituted with handwash.

I'm going to make my own with surgical spirit and Aloe Vera gel.

Bellini12 · 03/03/2020 18:19

Thanks chipshop but looks like everything on that site is out of stock too.

So we basically have to be at the shops for 9am for a chance of getting any? I suspect when they are restocked by the end of the week then they will go in minutes! I hope they limit the amount people can buy.

Boots says 8!

SubordinateThatClause · 03/03/2020 18:23

Dettol works

Reginabambina · 03/03/2020 18:25

You should be able to pop you brave out and in with your tongue.

That aside I saw a sign on boots today saying they’ve limited hand sanitiser/antibacterial wipe to two per customer and didn’t sell masks. They had loads of sanitiser and I have seen a single person in our town wearing a mask.

girlofthenorth · 03/03/2020 18:27

My boots had it but they were saying 2 per person

Wunderweb · 03/03/2020 18:37

Tesco delivery driver just told me that a customer had £100 worth of the tiny hand gels delivered to him twice in two days. They're out of stock completely now at our local branch, I thought they might have been limiting how much each customer could buy by now.
